Chapter 204: Episode 204
Adam clawed through more demons as Elesch took the charge. The two had made a bet on who would kill the most demons. And whoever killed the most demons would become the other person's servant for an entire week.
Elesch charged into a horde of demons, her rapier high in the air, as she swung down, killing one of them. Then created a sphere made of void and hurled it towards a couple of others, blasting them in their faces, though not fully killing them.
She buried her rapier in the nearly half-dead ones, wiping them out of existence within the blink of an eye. Then, she created a rift and got beyond another five sets of demons, creating a big wave of dark energy that she threw towards the obilivous demons.
Adam was on the other side, using his claws, scales, and rock-hard skin to defend, while gnawing through the demons. One of the demons jumped on his back, trying to bury its claws in his skin, though the rock-hard skin wasn't letting the demon penetrate through.
Adam grabbed the demon from his back and threw it away. The demon then collided against the hard surface of a building, demolishing the building further, while the demon's skin seemed to have exploded upon contact.
Meanwhile, Elesch was using her advanced skills in handling her rapier and carving intricate slashes on the demons, which left some paralyzed, while others were dead. She was thinking of them as a game and trying to anticipate their movements before they even made them.
Each swing of her rapier, the ripple her rapier made through the air, was precise, almost artistic, cutting not just for damage but for efficiency. Her void spheres whirled around like deadly comets, knocking demons off balance and leaving them exposed to her finishing strikes.
Adam, on the other hand, was a storm of brute force. His claws shredded through armor and bone alike, his tail sweeping groups of demons off their feet. Despite the chaos, there was a rhythm to his carnage; he thrived in the raw, visceral nature of the battle.
A demon leapt at him again, snapping its jaws, but Adam caught it mid-air with one massive hand, spinning and hurling it into a pile of rubble. The creature let out a howl that ended in a wet, gory splatter.
Elesch, noticing Adam's display, smirked. She wasn't about to let him win so easily. With a swift movement, she summoned a shadowy double of herself, which charged alongside her, confusing the demons and creating openings for her to exploit.
She darted through the battlefield like a phantom, leaving trails of dark energy in her wake, each strike paralyzing or vanquishing her foes in quick succession.
Adam growled in response, feeling the number of demons thinning faster than he could keep up. He leapt onto a ruined wall, claws sinking into the concrete for leverage, and launched himself toward Elesch. Their eyes met across the battlefield, one spark of rivalry, a silent challenge passing between them.
Elesch tilted her head, her lips curling into a competitive grin. "Don't slow down now," she called over the chaos, spinning her rapier in a flourish. "I haven't even warmed up yet. You don't want to lose to a girl that had a blackout and isn't even warmed up yet, do you?"
Adam bared his teeth and lunged, claws extended, ready to prove that brute strength could match finesse. The battlefield trembled as the two charged toward each other, each step sending waves of energy and debris flying, the demon horde caught between the unstoppable storm of Elesch's precision and Adam's raw power.
The contest was far from over, but the scale of destruction was already tipping, and it was anyone's guess who would emerge the victor. Though it was looking as if Adam might win, since he had a bigger tally of dead demons.
As Elesch and Adam clashed mid-battle, the air suddenly grew thick, heavy with a suffocating heat. The ground beneath them began to tremble, small fissures spreading like veins through the battlefield.
Both of them paused, instincts screaming that this was no ordinary demon. From the shadows emerged a figure far larger than any they had faced that day, a demon whose body seemed carved from obsidian and molten rock, with jagged wings that tore through the air like storm clouds.
Its eyes burned with a crimson intensity, and its roar shook the ruins around them, sending lesser demons scattering in terror. It roared with a deafening silence with a fearful tone that made the lesser demons whimper.
Elesch's rapier tightened in her grip, the shadows around her swirling faster, forming protective barriers as the air crackled with dark energy. Adam's claws scraped against the ground as his muscles tensed, scales bristling, his tail lashing with anticipation.
The demon stepped forward, each movement causing the ground to fracture, its massive claws leaving deep gouges wherever it touched. A low, guttural growl reverberated from its throat as it fixed its gaze on the pair, clearly marking them as its first targets.
Elesch glanced at Adam, a rare flicker of concern in her eyes. "Looks like the real fun is about to begin," she muttered, voice tight with controlled excitement.
Adam snarled, letting out a sound somewhere between a growl and a battle cry. "Bring it on," he said, though even he felt the weight of this opponent pressing down on them.
The massive demon raised its claw, and the very air around it seemed to warp. Shadows twisted unnaturally, and fire licked the edges of the battlefield.
Elesch and Adam braced themselves, knowing that whatever happened next, this fight would push them beyond anything they had faced before. They looked at each other, smirking, thinking whoever was able to carve out the big one would win the bet.
And then, with a deafening roar, the demon lunged toward them, faster than its size should have allowed, its eyes locked on its prey.
