Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Finally, Someone Comes To Die
The moonlight fell on the ground like snow, and the smell of blood in the air grew stronger.
In the few minutes after Bai Yiyuan finished speaking, all the candidates were prepared for battle.
There were no auxiliary occupations here—only primary combat professions.
The candidates formed a battle formation: knights at the front, followed by mages and archers.
The knights followed their code of honor. To defeat a teammate, one would have to step over their own fallen body.
"Tsk tsk tsk, that's impressive."
"It's a shame that you're all going to die."
"One hour is enough to kill you all."
"It's a pity I can't take your bodies back. The flesh and blood of youth are the most delicious."
"Ha ha ha ha!"
The gloomy voice, echoing under the bloody moonlight, made everyone shudder.
A trace of disgust crossed Marsh's expression. These sneaky beings were the most despicable.
Jeny, pale with fear, inched closer to Marsh. She seemed to find some comfort in his presence.
Not only Jeny, but many others looked frightened, their faces pale.
"Here they come!" someone shouted.
A massive figure appeared in the moonlight.
The detection spell flew over, creating a wave of breeze.
[Filin Orc Warrior (Abyss Infestation)]
Level: 19
Someone suddenly remembered, "Wait, there's a level limit for this battle space. The highest level is 19."
As the realization hit, others remembered as well.
"That's right! I almost forgot! The battle space is capped at level 19!"
"I was a little worried there for a second. But it's just level 19 monsters."
"Well, in that case, there's nothing to worry about. There are so many of us..."
But before he could finish speaking, he fell silent.
After the massive figure, several more figures emerged from the shadows. At least a hundred of them.
They were all level 19 monsters, infected by the abyssal power.
Each one stood three meters tall, exuding a terrifying aura. The ground shook under their weight as they marched forward.
Under the bloody moonlight, the monsters looked even more grotesque. Their tails were covered in thick barbs.
After being infected by the abyss, these ferin orc warriors had undergone horrifying mutations.
A crushing pressure hit the candidates, overwhelming them.
These candidates were only eighteen years old, and none of them had ever seen such terrifying monsters before.
All of them were so scared that their legs weakened.
Many had lost most of their courage in an instant.
Jeny, too, had turned pale. Without realizing it, she grabbed Marsh's sleeve. "What should we do?"
Marsh looked serious. "From the size of them, these aren't ordinary monsters."
"They're probably enhanced elite monsters."
"This is troublesome, but we can handle it."
Rarely did Marsh speak so much, and it seemed like he wanted to reassure Jeny.
But his words didn't comfort her at all; in fact, they frightened her even more.
"Enhanced elite monsters? Isn't that the same as the nightmare-level dungeon monsters?"
At that moment, Marsh's lips curled into a faint smile.
"If they're infected by the abyss and mutated... then there might be something valuable here."
He thought of something, the glint in his eyes sharpening.
If he was right, then these monsters might help him level up.
The massive monsters continued to approach, not rushing, but slowly drawing closer.
It felt like they were toying with the candidates—taking their time to kill them.
The cold voice of the abyss demon echoed once again.
"Are you scared?"
"Are you frightened?"
"These monsters have been enhanced by my power. Each one is now like an elite monster."
"There aren't many, just about 100 of them."
"Bai Yiyuan said that if you unite, you will win."
"Now, let's see if that's true."
"With more than a hundred of you, it's perfect. There's one for each of you."
"Will you fight alone or as a group?"
"Do you want to make it a competition like your trials?"
"How about a hundred battles? The winner lives, and the loser dies."
"Ha ha ha ha!"
The devilish laughter boomed, mocking the candidates and their bravery.
The monsters closed in, and the candidates began to retreat.
The line of defense broke as some of the candidates stepped back in fear.
Wang Zihao's face turned pale. His legs trembled as he joined the retreat.
However, Feng Xiu, the holy swordsman, stood firm, gripping his sword. His face was grim, but he did not step back.
Zuo Mei, holding a dagger, readied herself to fight to the death.
There were many others like Feng Xiu and Zuo Mei—candidates who stood ready to fight, unwilling to flee.
Marsh glanced over at them, then made his move.
Click!
The sound of bones cracking echoed as Marsh's skeleton warriors surged forward. Marsh followed close behind.
Jeny, anxious, shouted, "What are you doing? Come back quickly!"
"What are you planning?"
"You always do this without explaining!"
Frustrated, Jeny stomped her foot but then followed.
Suddenly, Marsh shouted in a low voice, "Go back."
Jeny hesitated for a moment before responding, "No, I won't."
"Whatever."
Marsh didn't say anything more. If Jeny wanted to follow, that was fine. It didn't affect him in the slightest.
Marsh's sudden action caught the attention of many.
"What's he doing?"
"He's charging ahead."
"Look at all those skeletons! Are they his summons?"
"Is he a summoner?"
"Who is this guy?"
A series of detection spells were cast on Marsh.
[Marsh, Level 16, Necromancer]
"A necromancer? What kind of profession is that? I've never heard of it."
"I don't know. It sounds new."
"Should we join him? Should we fight together?"
Only about a dozen candidates followed Marsh's lead, charging toward the monsters.
Among them were Feng Xiu and Zuo Mei, both willing to fight to the death.
Even if they had to perish in battle, they would do so with honor.
Shenxia citizens were never afraid of war or death.
The abyss demon sneered.
"Ah, someone finally came to die!"
"You've got guts. I'll give you that."
"You're brave; I really don't want to kill you. Why not come to the abyss and serve this demon king?"
