Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Dark Evil Light, Demon Head
Marsh was right.
In the history of the Shenxia Imperial Examination, very few candidates had managed to pass the second stage.
The fifth round of the Air Force Exam was the final round of the examination. The battle space consisted of five stages.
The highest record currently stood at the third stage, set more than 100 years ago. Since then, this record had never been broken.
Examiners in Jiangning Province began to speculate whether Marsh could break this record.
"I see a chance," one examiner said, his voice filled with hope. "Although I don't know the full extent of this guy's abilities, it's clear from his previous performance that his skills are... abnormal."
The examiner hesitated before continuing, "Not just powerful—abnormal."
"I suspect he has awakened his talent."
Another examiner shook his head, "No matter how strong a profession is, there must be a limit. It's impossible for someone to be this strong without some sort of hidden potential."
"If he really awakened his talent," the first examiner mused, "it could be a game-changer."
"Who knows?" another examiner chimed in. "If you awaken your talent just after changing your job, maybe you could awaken new talents with each job change."
"That's wishful thinking. Talented professionals are already rare, and those with double talents are even rarer."
The conversation continued as the examiners debated Marsh's abilities. But no one had an answer.
Meanwhile, Marsh was continuing his methodical progress through the second stage. He dispatched his skeleton warriors to engage the Ferin orcs. His strategy, though simple, was effective—skeleton warriors attracting fire, gathering monsters together, and using explosive corpse skills to kill in mass.
It wasn't new or flashy, but it was incredibly practical.
Marsh was already well-versed in this technique, and his efficiency was remarkable. Soon, his scattered skeletons had drawn in every Ferin orc they could find.
With the monsters grouped together, Marsh ordered an attack. The skill was activated, and the level 16 Ferin orc fighters fell in an instant.
The resulting chain of explosions caused by the corpses quickly cleared the battlefield, leaving a deadly silence in its wake.
The points surged immediately. Marsh's score jumped by 20,000, reaching a new total of 34,605 points.
In the second stage, each monster earned Marsh 100 points. That meant he had killed roughly 200 monsters to gain those 20,000 points.
The examiners in the control room had grown accustomed to his rapid increase in points.
"This guy is in the second stage," one examiner observed. "The monsters only gained one level, but it doesn't seem to have any effect on him."
Another examiner smirked. "It's like sending points straight to him. If I had the authority, I'd make it harder for him."
"Exactly. Wouldn't it be fun to send dozens of bosses his way?"
The examiners looked at Marsh's points, then glanced at the others. The difference was staggering.
At that moment, Jeny, an elemental mage, had earned over 7,000 points and was in second place. She was the second fastest player, using her group attack skills to quickly clear the monsters.
Following her was Kevin, the holy swordsman, who had reached 6,000 points. It was clear that the holy swordsman class was also efficient against groups of monsters.
Zuo Mei and Wang Zihao were close behind. Zuo Mei had been steadily killing monsters, though her efficiency wasn't as high. Wang Zihao, more straightforward, was charging into battle, taking on monsters head-on.
Neither of them had broken past 5,000 points yet, but both were confident in their progress. After completing the first stage, surpassing 10,000 points wasn't an issue.
As long as their points reached 10,000, they would meet all the requirements for passing and qualify for entry into Xiajing Academy.
The Shenxia Empire's grand examination was conducted nationwide and on a provincial level. Almost all the provincial exams had now entered the fifth round. The trial towers in every city had opened the battle spaces, and anyone who could enter them was already considered a genius.
This year's candidates were hailed as the most talented in the history of the exam. The upper echelons of the Shenxia Empire saw them as the future of the nation, with many strong individuals likely to emerge, contributing fresh blood to the empire.
In the capital city of Shenxia, nestled next to Xiajing City, a massive tower floated in mid-air. Countless residents gazed up at it, unable to miss the tower that had suddenly appeared in the sky.
This was the body of the Trial Tower—the primary structure that oversaw all major exams in the Shenxia Empire. The towers in other provinces were mere clones of this grand structure.
There were three divine towers in the Shenxia Empire. The Trial Tower was one, and another was the Shenxia Pagoda, located in Xiajing Academy. The third tower, known as the Demon Extinguishing Tower, was stationed on the frontlines and rarely seen by the public.
Suddenly, the sky darkened, and a sudden chill gripped the air. The night fell in an instant, and a pitch-black, evil light shot from the sky, heading straight toward the Trial Tower at lightning speed.
"Bold!" a deep, booming voice thundered across the city.
A gigantic, spectral hand appeared in the air, attempting to block the dark light's path.
"Tsk tsk, you can't stop it," a sinister voice sneered from the darkness, its tone mocking the giant hand.
With a flash of black light, a massive demon head materialized in the sky. It had two sharp horns and fangs, looking exactly like the devilish figures described in ancient texts.
The two horns rattled as a burst of black light shot from them toward the phantom hand, colliding with it in an explosion of power.
Yet, the black light passed through the giant hand without a sound, annihilating it with a force that left no trace.
As the battle in the sky continued, another giant eye appeared, glowing with a golden light. The eye unleashed a beam of pure energy, heading straight toward the pitch-black light.
The dark light split into two. One half collided with the golden beam, while the other sped up drastically, shooting straight toward the Trial Tower.
"Do you want to die?" a voice roared.
Another giant hand appeared, grabbing the demon's head tightly in the air.
The demon's head let out a sinister laugh. "This is just a clone. You can destroy it as you wish, but as for those in the Trial Tower... tsk tsk..."
With a deafening explosion, the demon's head was crushed, its laughter echoing even as it was destroyed.
The battle in the skies left an eerie silence in its wake, and the fate of the Trial Tower remained uncertain as the dark presence threatened its existence.
