Chapter 37: Chapter 37: What A Weird Guy, But Also A Little Cute
For the second time, Jeny watched as even the final boss was instantly annihilated.
She stood frozen, numb to the chaotic scene around her.
The Giant Goblin King had fallen so effortlessly, it almost felt unreal.
"Did this Goblin King owe you a favor in a past life or something? How does it feel like it just hands you free experience?" she muttered in disbelief.
When Marsh leveled up again, Jeny couldn't help but blurt out, "You leveled up again? Are you level 15 now?"
"Yes," Marsh replied calmly, as if leveling up in a nightmare dungeon was as ordinary as breathing.
Jeny grimaced. She wasn't even level 13 yet—30% away, to be precise. The gap between them felt like it was growing exponentially, no matter how hard she tried to keep up.
[You have defeated the Goblin King. Experience +25,000.]
[Loot obtained: Goblin King's Longsword (Bronze).]
[Loot obtained: Low-grade monster core.]
Seeing the notifications, Jeny sighed. "It's such a shame it wasn't the Goblin King's Staff. That's what I really need."
Marsh turned to her, his tone indifferent. "You need a staff?"
"Of course," Jeny said, nodding eagerly. "The Goblin King's Staff is the best weapon for mages under level 20. Sure, I could just buy one from the exchange, but then I'd have to ask my dad for money… and I really don't want to do that."
Suddenly, something flew toward her. On instinct, Jeny caught it.
[Goblin King's Staff obtained.]
She stared at the staff in her hands, her brain taking a moment to catch up. It was the very item she wanted.
Marsh's voice broke her trance. "Take it. It's yours."
"You're giving this to me?" Jeny asked, stunned.
Marsh nodded. "It's just a staff. Nothing special."
Jeny clutched the staff, her grip tightening. After a moment, she managed to say, "Thank you."
But curiosity soon overtook her gratitude. "Wait, why don't you use it yourself? You're a mage too, right?"
Without a word, Marsh pulled out a worn but powerful-looking spellbook—the Goblin King's Magic Book.
"I use this," he said simply.
Jeny blinked in confusion. Most mages preferred staves for their practicality. Unlike spellbooks, a staff could double as a physical weapon or a defensive tool in tight situations.
"But… the staff is more practical than a spellbook," she pointed out.
Marsh shook his head. "I don't like staves."
That response left Jeny speechless.
He doesn't like staves? That's it? That's the reason?
She glanced at the spellbook in his hands and realized something else. Throughout their dungeon runs, Marsh hadn't even taken it out once.
Maybe the magic book's bonuses were so minimal to him that he didn't even need to rely on it.
Marsh, unaware of Jeny's inner musings, began inspecting his upgraded attributes.

Now at level 15, Marsh felt confident about entering Xia Jing Academy. He estimated that reaching level 16 would give him an even greater edge, but level 15 should be sufficient.
The downside was the slowdown in experience gain. Marsh had initially expected to gain 12% of his level, but after running this dungeon, he had only gained 8%.
Although part of the experience was shared with Jeny, the slow rate was noticeable.
Marsh calculated silently.
"Jeny's primary cooldown talisman will let us run this dungeon three more times back-to-back. At my speed, that'll take about 30 minutes. After that, there'll be two natural cooldown periods. Including those, we should be able to run the dungeon five more times in total."
He glanced at the Goblin King's fallen body and muttered, "Sorry about this, but I might have to kill you five more times."
Jeny stared at him, her jaw dropping.
"Did you just… talk to the boss?"
Marsh turned to her. "Yes."
"But it's just a dungeon boss. It doesn't understand you."
"That doesn't matter," Marsh replied with his usual calm tone.
Jeny tilted her head. "Then why say anything at all?"
Marsh didn't answer her.
For a moment, Jeny was stunned into silence. She replayed the scene in her head: Marsh apologizing to the boss so seriously, as if it were a living creature.
A giggle escaped her lips. Then another.
Before long, she was laughing openly.
Marsh gave her a puzzled look. "What's so funny?"
"You!" Jeny said between laughs. "You're just… such a weirdo! Who apologizes to a dungeon boss? It's here to be killed! It's not like it has feelings or anything."
Marsh shrugged. "Doesn't hurt to be polite."
His matter-of-fact response only made Jeny laugh harder.
Shaking her head, she grinned. "You're a weird guy, Marsh… but kind of cute in your own way."
Marsh ignored her comment, already preparing for their next dungeon run.
"Let's go. We have more work to do," he said.
Jeny rolled her eyes but followed him, her new staff clutched tightly in her hands.
"Alright, Mr. Efficiency. Let's see what you've got."
