Chapter 19: Chapter 19: The First Time to Kill, Do It Simply
Not only were the three enemies stunned, but Ning Yiyi was too. Her eyes widened in shock, her small mouth slightly agape as she struggled to believe what she was seeing.
She looked incredibly cute in that moment.
She had seen Marsh's skeleton warrior earlier that day. It was only level 10 and looked damaged, with cracks all over its body and a worn weapon in its hands. It appeared fragile, almost pathetic. But now, it was clear this was no ordinary summon.
The mage's level 20 skills had failed to even scratch it. Neither the archer's triple shots nor the knight's charge had made a dent in the warrior. How could a level 10 summon be so strong? And then there was the number of them…
Flames flickered in the dark night as more skeleton warriors silently appeared, surrounding the group.
Marsh said nothing as he approached Ning Yiyi with a deadly glint in his eyes.
"Kill!" he commanded with a thought.
The skeleton warriors surged forward.
The mage's expression shifted dramatically. His staff shook, and an energy shield materialized around him.
"Energy Shield," he muttered to himself.
It was the mage's signature skill. The higher the mage's level, the stronger the shield. Legendary mages could withstand even forbidden spells with their shields.
Mages lacked the agility of archers and moved slower, so dodging wasn't an option for them, especially with skeleton warriors closing in. The mage had no room to maneuver.
The first skeleton warrior raised its sword and brought it down with a powerful strike, sending violent tremors through the energy shield.
The mage's eyes widened in alarm. The shield nearly shattered after just one hit. How strong were these skeletons?
Before he could process what was happening, the second skeleton warrior's sword descended.
With a loud crack, the energy shield broke into a thousand shimmering fragments and disappeared.
"Resist the Ring of Fire!"
The mage quickly cast another spell. A massive ring of fire erupted around him, pushing several skeleton warriors back more than ten meters. He managed to create some distance, but before he could feel any relief, his vision darkened.
Two skeletons had already leapt to the top of his head.
He never had a chance to use another spell.
With a flash of metal, the mage's head flew from his shoulders.
In less than two seconds, the mage was dead.
The archer, meanwhile, was desperately dodging the skeleton warriors' attacks, but fear had overtaken him as he watched the mage's swift demise.
He was much more agile than the mage, but he still couldn't keep up with the speed of a skeleton warrior whose agility was over 3000 points.
He kept using his evasion skills, trying to escape the skeletons' pursuit. But each time he evaded one attack, he found himself surrounded again.
Despite his skill, the archer's chances of survival were shrinking.
The knight, however, had better luck. He was glowing with a strong aura, using his ultimate defense to charge toward the distance.
The knight's defensive aura was stronger than the mage's energy shield, protecting him from harm. Even when a skeleton warrior's sword struck him, he remained unharmed.
"It's Extreme Defense," Marsh thought, recognizing the skill.
Extreme Defense was one of the core abilities of a knight. When activated, it significantly boosted the knight's defense for a short period. Though the skill's exact strength was unknown, there had been reports of level 20 knights withstanding attacks from level 40 mages while using Extreme Defense.
A knight using this skill was in a different league than one who hadn't mastered it. But learning Extreme Defense wasn't easy. It required a special skill scroll, and the process was highly random.
The knight was fleeing with all his might, activating Extreme Defense to protect himself. But as he ran, he heard a scream from behind him—the archer was dead.
Now, the knight was fully aware of the danger. The mage and archer had died so quickly, and the skeleton warriors were relentless. He cursed himself for coming here; the intermediate skill scroll wasn't worth the price of his life.
"Use skills!" Marsh ordered.
He wasn't about to let the knight escape. If they had already killed two of his comrades, he wasn't going to let the knight get away.
Red light flared from the skeleton warriors' swords.
"Furious Blow!" Marsh commanded.
The skeleton warriors' strength was now at 3000 points, and the Furious Blow skill doubled their damage output.
"Use skills too!" Marsh called out.
The knight was already in a perilous position, but now the skeleton warriors were actively using their skills as well. It was almost unfair.
The broadsword of one skeleton warrior, flashing red, came down on the knight.
The white light surrounding the knight flickered as the sword's attack connected. The knight's defense, once powerful, began to weaken.
The skeleton warriors struck again and again. The knight's ultimate defense could only last for a minute, and each successive blow was draining its power.
The more intense the attack, the shorter the duration of Ultimate Defense.
The skeleton warriors continued their assault, using their skills to wear down the knight's defense. They surrounded him, leaving no room for escape.
It was hopeless.
Ten seconds later, the knight was dismembered by the relentless skeleton warriors, dying with a look of utter disbelief.
In the blink of an eye, all three enemies were dead.
Ning Yiyi stood in shock. The battle had only taken about 20 seconds from start to finish. All three of them were dead, and the instigator—Marsh—hadn't even moved from his spot.
Marsh nodded. "They're all dead."
The skeleton warriors gathered the spoils from the fallen enemies. When players died, their items dropped in the space where they fell, and the skeleton warriors picked up everything.
The loot included:
Bronze-level Carmen Staff: +20 Spirit, increases mage skill power by 5%, available after level 18.
Bronze-level Carmen War Bow: +20 Agility, increases bow and arrow skill power by 5%, available after level 18.
Bronze-level Carmen Sword: +10 Strength, +10 Constitution, increases offensive skill power by 5%, available after level 18.
Bronze-level Carmen Shield: +20 Constitution, increases defensive skill power by 5%, available after level 18.
Ning Yiyi watched as Marsh examined the loot. She was still in disbelief, trying to process what had just happened. Everything had happened so quickly, and the overwhelming power of Marsh's skeleton warriors had left her speechless.
Marsh smiled slightly. "They underestimated us."
