Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Skeleton Warriors Can Also Be Used as Meat Shields
Marsh had already spotted the newcomers through his skeleton warrior.
In addition to the archers and mages he had encountered earlier, there was now a knight with a sword and shield on his back. Three people had surrounded him from different directions.
Ning Yiyi frowned, her delicate face creased in frustration.
"It's never-ending. It's just an intermediate skill scroll. They've been chasing me for days, and they still haven't given up."
Ning Yiyi stomped her foot in irritation and said to Marsh, "I'm leaving. I'll play with you again when I get the chance."
Whoosh!
A sharp arrow shot from the darkness. Ning Yiyi reacted quickly, dodging to the side in an instant.
The sharp arrow exploded with a loud bang, splitting into two beams of light that landed on Marsh and Ning Yiyi respectively.
A large mark suddenly appeared above their heads, glowing brightly in the dark night like a spotlight.
"Damn, marked arrow!"
Ning Yiyi's face turned pale. She knew something was wrong.
Marsh recalled the description of the marked arrow. It was an archer's skill that marked the target, making it impossible for the target to go invisible. The marked arrows were especially effective against assassins, as they disabled their stealth abilities. When raiding dungeons, they could also be used against invisible monsters.
Being marked by an archer made it nearly impossible for the assassin to escape.
"You can't escape this time," a sneer echoed from the shadows. The mage Marsh had encountered earlier emerged from the forest.
On the other side, the archer stood atop a tree.
Finally, the knight appeared as well.
The mage held his staff, cold eyes sweeping over Marsh and Ning Yiyi.
"I knew you were in cahoots," the mage muttered. "A filthy, mouse-like assassin paired with a dark, evil undead summoner. A perfect duo."
Ning Yiyi's hand glowed faintly as she summoned a blue dagger. "He has nothing to do with this. I'll give you the skill scroll, and we'll part ways."
The archer on the tree laughed. "That would've worked a day ago, but now we think it's safer to just kill you."
The mage added, "The dead are the safest. No one will ever know about our intermediate skill scrolls. That saves us a lot of trouble."
Ning Yiyi whispered, "I'll hold them off for a while. You run."
Marsh looked at her. "What about you?"
"I'm a shadow assassin," Ning Yiyi said. "Night is my domain. I'll find a way to get out."
Marsh knew she was just talking. If Ning Yiyi could really fight her way out, she wouldn't have been in this situation to begin with. Clearly, the enemy was stronger. As a shadow assassin, she might have been able to escape before, but now that she had been marked by the archer's arrow, her stealth abilities would be useless, making escape nearly impossible.
The archer's voice rang out. "Enough talk. Let's do this."
The mage raised his staff. "Not only are you going to die today, but this little guy is going to die too."
A brilliant light erupted from the mage's staff as a massive ball of light rose into the air, illuminating the surrounding area like daylight.
The Lightball!
The mage's light spell did more than illuminate. It also dispelled darkness and increased the mage's spell hit rate. More importantly, it could disrupt an assassin's stealth abilities, making it even harder for Ning Yiyi to escape.
Ning Yiyi's face tightened. "This is bad."
A blue dagger appeared in her hand as she readied herself for a fight, her body tensing.
The archer stood poised on the tree, bow drawn, ready to release an arrow at any moment.
The knight took off his sword and shield, preparing to charge.
The mage's staff shone brilliantly.
The three enemies surrounded them, leaving no chance for Ning Yiyi to escape.
At that moment, Marsh raised a finger slightly, and a skeleton warrior appeared in front of him.
"Ha, what a waste of effort," the mage scoffed, a sneer of deep disgust crossing his face.
"Big Fireball!"
The mage shouted, summoning a fireball one meter in diameter, which hurtled toward them with raging flames.
The big fireball was only within the grasp of a level 20 mage and was highly powerful. A direct hit would either kill or severely injure the target.
"Get away!" Ning Yiyi shouted. She immediately yanked Marsh back.
But as the fireball flew toward them, the mage quickly cast another spell—spiritual entanglement.
While Ning Yiyi pulled Marsh away, she suddenly felt a strange weight on her body. Her speed slowed dramatically.
Invisible mental tendrils extended from the mage's staff, wrapping around their feet.
As Ning Yiyi struggled with the mental entanglement, the archer made his move.
The bowstring hummed, and an arrow shot out, splitting into three mid-flight.
Triple Shot!
The archer's skill, Triple Shot, sent three arrows flying, tripling the attack's effectiveness.
At the same time, the knight charged at them with incredible speed.
"It's over!" Ning Yiyi's face turned ashen.
Without thinking, she shoved Marsh away, pushing him out of the attack's range.
Just as the knight was about to collide with them, two skeleton warriors appeared on either side of Ning Yiyi.
The three skeleton warriors acted as shields, firmly protecting Ning Yiyi.
The mage's big fireball crashed into one of the skeleton warriors, exploding in a fiery burst.
The archer's three arrows hit the skeleton warrior, but the sound of metal clashing filled the air.
Meanwhile, the knight's charge collided with the skeleton warrior, but the skeleton stood firm, sending the knight flying.
In the flames, the skeleton warrior emerged unscathed, glowing with bluish-white light.
"How can this be?" The mage gasped, unable to believe his eyes.
He had checked Marsh's level with his control spell—Marsh was only a level 10 necromancer.
The level of a summoned creature couldn't exceed the necromancer's level. This skeleton warrior should only be level 10, and yet, it hadn't been defeated by his powerful fireball or the archer's arrows.
What kind of summoned creature was this?
The archers and knights were equally stunned. They had never seen such a strong summoned creature before.
Suddenly, the sound of bones clicking echoed through the air.
More skeleton warriors appeared, surrounding the enemies.
A total of 44 skeleton warriors now encircled them.
The enemies were completely surrounded, trapped by the relentless undead army.
Ning Yiyi looked at Marsh in disbelief. "What… is this?"
Marsh calmly stepped forward. "Just a little help from my skeleton warriors. I've been preparing for this."
