Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle

Chapter 533: Observers

Marshal Dain stood his ground as his forces were systematically wiped out by the Ravenous Tyrant Zombie.

There was so much blood as they pooled beneath his boots. His previous bustling shelter was suddenly attacked by a powerful Zombie without even a warning from the system!

This was definitely not a natural event! The one who made this happen must pay the price!

'A rampaging Zombie Lord… Someone failed to kill it and brought it here…' Marshal Dain clenched his fist as he planned to get to the bottom of this.

However, seeing his men dying, he just couldn't turn his back and abandon them… He felt the urge to fight until his last breath.

The wreckage of Ironhold's defenses was now smoking ruins.

His men—his people—were gone.

Can he really rebuild his shelter with a few survivors? No, can he even escape from the Zombie Lord?

Marshal Dain greeted his teeth.

If he was going to die, he was going to die fighting.

He pulled out his final weapon—an experimental Plasma Railgun, salvaged from a pre-apocalypse weapons cache. His shelter was lucky enough to get hold of a military bunker after all.

The barrel hummed as he charged it to maximum output.

He took careful aim at the monster's head.

Then, he pulled the trigger. Stay connected through My Virtual Library Empire

If this attack couldn't kill the Zombie Lord, then he would sure die at this point.

Bam!

A blue energy erupted from the gun, piercing clean through the Tyrant's skull.

"I did it?!" Marshal Dain was shocked…

Thud… Thud… Thud…

The gun also collapsed into pieces since it could only be used once.

For a moment, everything stopped.

Marshal Dain waited for the system confirmation that he eliminated the Zombie Lord. However, that didn't happen!

There was no message…

"No way…"

The Zombie Lord didn't collapse to the ground and still stood there, slowly regenerating!

Marshal Dain wanted to follow up with another attack as he saw the gaping wound—seared, and smoking—did not immediately regenerate.

He should have enough time to kill it! Hope flickered in Dain's eyes as he gathered his Spirit Points to enhance his swords…

And then—

The Ravenous Tyrant suddenly opened its mouth and pounced on him! It was too fast to react.

Dain had one second to realize that even with its head half-destroyed, the creature was still able to act on its instinct!

And then it swallowed him whole.

Just like that, the mighty leader of the Neutral Shelter perished without being able to avenge his men.

In the meantime, several kilometers from the Neutral Shelter that was destroyed, within an old ancient cathedral, a group of Necromancers were already preparing to move…

Their leader, known as Verathis together with two other Necromancers, controlled Black Hollow, one of the largest Wild Shelters of the Necromancers in the region.

Unlike Survivor Shelters, which thrived on community and cooperation, Wild Shelters were mostly ruled by one or two Necromancers.

Having three of them in this shelter showed how strong Verathis was… As a matter of fact, they had already destroyed five Survivor Shelters around this region.

Only the Ironhold led by Marshal Dain was the place they didn't dare to raid because of their various weapons and talismans that could deal with undead creatures.

Lord Verathis also had an alias called the Bone Conqueror. He was a master of skeletal constructs who commanded an army of bone golems. He may not be capable of summoning Lich, Ghouls, or even Death Knights but his huge Bone Army could decimate many Survivors who had no abilities to deal with the tough bones of his army.

Together with him was Mistress Ilvara, a previous enchantress who could ensnare the souls of the dead and bend them to her will. After turning into a Necromancer, however, she was now able to control three or four high-level Undead Summons.

Indeed, while Lord Verathis focused on the endless number of his Bone Army, Ilvara focused on her ability to control limited but strong undead creatures. She liked the quality of her undead and didn't focus too much on weaker undead, though she could still summon them if truly needed.

Finally, there was Darius, known as the Mad Genius Doctor before becoming a Necromancer.

He certainly was a deranged genius who fused undead monstrosities together, creating horrific abominations.

Under their rule, Black Hollow had become a fortress of living corpses. Even after being sieged several times, they had never fallen against the Survivors or Zombie Waves…

As a matter of fact, they had never feared a raid, a siege, or even an army of Foreign Survivors. They would actually love it more since they would be able to obtain a huge number of corpses in the process!

Unfortunately, that was before the Ravenous Tyrant arrived.

"We'll see if can defend this place… We'll escape if half our Undead Summons die and the Zombie Lord is still standing strong." Verathis said to the two.

Although he felt confident with his Bone Army, dealing with a Zombie Lord was a different matter.

He knew this very well since he also tried to control a Ghoul King and even a Death Knight Champion and it was not easy and cost-effective at all.

Darius and Ilvara didn't find anything wrong with his suggestion and nodded.

"We'll follow your orders…"

"Let's see if we can defeat it. That's a good idea."

Then, after some time, the first warning came from the ghouls stationed at the outskirts. These ghouls looked really different as Darius modified them as well.

Boom!

The ghouls never had a chance to raise an alarm as a wave of crushing force flattened the first line of the undead.

This attack had certainly caught the Necromancer's attention.

The Ravenous Tyrant looked unstoppable as it tore through the huge number of Skeleton Soldiers outside their shelter.

By the time the Necromancer were able to send out stronger Undead Summons, half of their low-tier to mid-tier Undead had been annihilated.

Lord Verathis stared at the huge Zombie Lord causing havoc through their ranks.

He was calm at first as he expected the Zombie Lord to be very strong. Even Foreign Survivors could normally crush their low-tier Undead Summons.

However, there was something wrong with this Zombie…

His eyes went wide as he noticed something he had never seen before! He was even too stunned to speak as he took a closer look at what was happening.

Then, the other two also realized what was going on.

"That... that thing is absorbing our undead!" Ilvara hissed while watching as the Ravenous Tyrant crushed one of her Death Titans, consuming its corpse and growing even stronger!

Darius then saw his stitched abominations rush forward to intercept it, but the moment they made contact, the Tyrant's body warped, as if it was changing its form…

Then, they saw how it sprouted bone scythes that extended from its limbs!

It seemed that the Bone Army it devoured had become its weapon!

Within minutes, the battlefield was an ocean of shattered bones, corrupted flesh, and ruined magic circles.

"This is no ordinary undead," Verathis gritted his teeth as he saw what was happening.

He even thought of controlling it for a moment but this time, he knew that it was wishful thinking and had to abandon that idea.

"This thing is impossible to beat with our current Undead Summons. But… It must be a certain limit…"

The three Necromancers were surprised but they were not cowards. The undead summons were expendables for them. They just needed more energy and they could summon them back.

The three of them still had several aces up their sleeves that they could use. They certainly wouldn't mind showing their might against this unstoppable Zombie Lord.

Soon, the three Necromancers showed why they were the strongest in the region.

The battle that followed had actually lasted more than twelve hours because of the sheer number of Undead Summons they could use plus the Dark Artifact they have, allowing them to summon numerous Undead as much as they needed.

Needless to say, it was more powerful than the Grimoire that Asad was using to summon Undead Creatures.

During this fight, Verathis unleashed his legion of Bone Golems. These golems stood twenty feet tall and could restrain the Zombie Lord a some time.

Ilvara, having sent out her high-grade Undead, chose to fight as well by using various Necromancer Spells, attempting to bind the Tyrant's soul itself, but its will was too strong and could shatter her spells with a mere roar.

Darius also called forth his greatest and strongest masterpiece, it was a colossus of stitched undead bodies, nearly as large as the Tyrant itself.

Unfortunately, despite their immense power, the Necromancers could not overcome the Tyrant's terrifying ability—Adaptation.

In the meantime, a couple of kilometers away from the battlefield, a group of Survivors were watching the Necromancers and the Zombie Lord battle it out.

It was such an incredible fight, which made them guess that the Necromancers of that Wild Shelter were most likely the top Rankers of the Necromancers.

"Roan… Do you think we can win against that?" Raze suddenly asked the young red dragon beside her.
