Chapter 401: Wuhan's Question

After leaving the location where the battle had just occurred, everyone appeared before a grand entrance to the royal palace.

Before them was a towering golden gate that was almost thrice the size of a full-grown man. They had to cross a set of stairs to reach the gates. Wuhan was the first person to take a step forward.

Without saying anything, he silently walked past the two guards who were standing there guarding the door.

As he walked past the guards, Nuo Yan realized that they were in the core formation realm, almost reaching the peak of the realm.

The same people who were powerful enough to lead a sect in some low-level kingdoms were guarding the door for someone in this place.

*Clank!*

Upon entering the room, they were welcomed by a warm atmosphere shining with all kinds of golden jewels and decorations.

"Welcome to the Royal Palace of the Feng Empire!" The prime minister turned around and gave way to the young boy with a smile on his face as he welcomed him to the throne room.

Nuo Yan smiled and nodded to the man in return. The others calmly paid attention to the boy's movements. Their eyes were filled with suspicion, but they were no longer vigilant.

The reason for that was they were in the middle of the Royal Palace now. The most protected and safe place in the whole empire. This was a place where even someone in the golden core realm couldn't do as they pleased.

Wuhan marched forward and took his seat on the throne placed on a platform domineeringly. He looked down and landed his eyes on the boy he seemingly knew, but the look in his eyes did not seem that friendly.

Seeing the look in his eyes, Nuo Yan sighed out loud. The others in the room took their seats in the hall.

"For all those who don't know this man, he is an acquaintance of mine." Wuhan started by introducing the boy to everyone else.

The prime minister scanned the boy with his eyes, thoroughly considering his words.

"Nuo Yan did me a favor years ago and that's how we came to know each other." After finishing the introduction, Wuhan turned his face towards Nuo Yan and looked him in the eyes before continuing, "Now… what explanation do you have for yourself?"

His words seemed calm, but there was a bit of pressure behind them.

"I apologize; I shouldn't have done this without informing you first." Nuo Yan looked around the room instead of immediately answering the question.

"What makes you think that His Majesty would have given you permission to do something like that in the first place?" The prime minister came forward and asked seriously.

The rest also seemed convinced by the words of the minister. Wuhan did not say anything in return and waited for Nuo Yan to continue with his words.

"You can think of it as a bit of a training session." Nuo Yan turned his face towards the minister and replied with a sweet smile on his face. While he was saying those words, he glanced at the head captain and winked.

"I just wanted to see what they would do if a situation like that presented itself in the future."

"I would have had difficulty believing you were even His Majesty's acquaintance… if he hadn't said it himself." The head captain commented lazily before leaning back in his chair and closing his eyes with the straw hat covering his face.

"Head Captain, mind I remind you where you are!" The prime minister's face twitched seeing how he did not care about Wuhan. "Are you disregarding the emperor's presence?"

His cold words cut through the air, making the two scholars standing beside him shiver in fear.

"Shi Tzu, stop it!" Wuhan waved his hand to stop them, much to the minister's displeasure.

"What did you come here for?" Wuhan changed his attention back to the boy and asked solemnly.

"I was just walking by the capital on my stroll, but we can talk about my journey later. The reason I went after the Royal Guards was really just to see the extent of their abilities." Nuo Yan calmly replied and changed the topic at the same time.

"What do you mean?" Wuhan squinted his eyes. All the others present in the room also looked at the boy with a confused gaze.

"I wanted to see how they would act in facing a strong enemy." Nuo Yan waved his hands before taking his seat on a nearby chair. "But while I was doing that, I came across many other things."

His suggestive tone did not sit well with the prime minister.

"It looked like you were in a meeting, so I had to pass my time."

"You just said–"

"When did I say that I can't hit two birds with one stone?" Nuo Yan interrupted the scholar who tried to ask the question.

"But knowing you, you would be aiming to kill two more birds using those two birds." Wuhan scoffed before shifting to his throne.

"Ahem! Don't be like that. I assume you need help with something? Maybe I can give it to you for free." Nuo Yan coughed in embarrassment and changed his words.

"You want to help me?" An amused smile appeared on Wuhan's face as he tapped his fingers on the throne. "Very well, then tell me a way to gather all the major forces of the kingdom, whether they are affiliated with me or not, under one roof."

Silence enveloped the air as Wuhan's words descended in the room. Everyone, including the prime minister, looked at the emperor. Captain Black Sword peeked at the emperor through his straw hat before closing his eyes. 'Now I regret taking that vacation early. I should have taken it at this moment.'

While the head captain cursed his fate, the prime minister snapped out of his daze and hurriedly walked before the emperor and exclaimed, "Your Majesty!"
