Chapter 88 Gang Crime (Seeking Subscriptions and Monthly Tickets)

At 1:15 AM, Luo Fei and Yang Su walked towards the interrogation room with their notebooks, preparing to interrogate Yang Dawei overnight.

As they passed another interrogation room, they heard Zhao Donglai's angry scolding inside, along with the sound of him banging the table.

Earlier, after bringing Wang Pingchuan back to the police station, he and Zhang Fan quickly interrogated him.

However, Wang Pingchuan was evidently experienced and consistently gave evasive answers during their questioning, seemingly trying to make a last-ditch struggle.

As a result, after almost half an hour, Zhao Donglai and Zhang Fan still hadn't been able to extract any useful information from him.

This caused Zhao Donglai's anger to grow, "Wang Pingchuan, do you think you can just say nothing and be fine? Based on your previous crimes alone, you could be sentenced to over ten years!"

"Well, that's settled then, if I'm going to be sentenced anyway, what's the difference whether I talk now or not?"

Wang Pingchuan leaned back, adjusted to a more comfortable position on the chair, and arrogantly spoke.

"What kind of attitude is that! Even though you have a record, if you cooperate with us, you still have the chance for a reduced sentence, for lenient treatment! But if you act like this, it'll only lead to harsher punishment!"

"Oh, come on, stop trying to bluff me with that trick—do you think I'm just some clueless rookie? Reduced sentence is nothing but your tactic to get confessions."

Indeed, police do use certain tactics during interrogations to elicit confessions from suspects.

But never did they expect Wang Pingchuan to know even this, leaving Zhao Donglai momentarily without a strategy.

"Looks like this guy's mouth isn't easy to pry open…" Outside the room, Yang Su couldn't help but lower his voice after seeing the situation inside.

Luo Fei agreed, nodding deeply, then knocked on the door, raising his voice towards the room, "Captain Zhao, I've already sent the kid to the hospital, and the doctors said they would notify us immediately if anything comes up. Also, I applied with the team leader for an immediate interrogation of Yang Dawei!"

In truth, Luo Fei had already reported these updates to Zhao Donglai via mobile phone on the way back.

He was deliberately repeating them with the intention for Wang Pingchuan to hear.

He knew that with someone like this, possessing certain counter-investigation awareness and psychological resilience, general interrogation techniques wouldn't be very effective, so the best approach now was to crush his psychological defenses; only then might he voluntarily confess.

Letting him know that his accomplice has been apprehended was the best method.

Sure enough, the previously indifferent Wang Pingchuan displayed a few hints of panic in his eyes upon hearing this.

Zhao Donglai quickly understood Luo Fei's intentions and cooperatively responded, "Alright, you two go; it just so happens we're not making much progress here. If there's a breakthrough on Yang Dawei's side, it would be great."

"Okay."

In the interrogation room.

Yang Dawei sat dejectedly at the table, shackled at the hands and feet.

Luo Fei and Yang Su entered the room and sat opposite him, Yang Su began, "So tell us, Yang Dawei, why the child trafficking, how you conduct your transactions, if there are accomplices, and who the buyers are?"

"Officer, I've already told you, I didn't traffic any children, I'm being wronged…"

"Wronged? Didn't we find the child in your personal suitcase?"

"I've explained before, that suitcase belongs to a friend of mine… I really didn't know there was a child inside!"

"You didn't know?" Luo Fei looked at him with a half-smile, "Then can you explain why after kicking the suitcase, you cursed saying you'd sell the little brat tomorrow?"

"I, I didn't say that, officer, you must have heard wrong…"

"Every word and action of yours has been recorded by the law enforcement camera. Do you want me to replay it for you now?"

Yang Dawei was suddenly at a loss for words.

Luo Fei pressed on, "Additionally, let me be honest, your accomplice Wang Pingchuan has been captured by us, so the clues the police have now are far more than you can imagine."

"We're giving you a chance to redeem yourself, to seek leniency; if you don't appreciate that, regret will come too late."

"Who is Wang Pingchuan?" Yang Dawei's expression was full of confusion.

"Wang Pingchuan is the alias of Liu Qingchuan; you still don't know, do you? He is actually a fugitive wanted by the police of XZ for years, later assuming the name Liu Qingchuan to evade capture."

"And don't blame me for not warning you: if you keep holding out and saying nothing, that's fine, but Wang Pingchuan is undergoing interrogation right next door, and if he confesses before you do, he'll get a reduced sentence while you'll only be envious."

Luo Fei's words had a significant impact on Yang Dawei!

Since being captured, he had persistently emphasized that the suitcase was merely something left with him by a friend for safekeeping, never mentioning anything concerning Wang Pingchuan, with the mindset of taking a chance.

He believed that as long as they hadn't captured Wang Pingchuan, he might be able to bluff his way through, but now, Luo Fei's words truly made him anxious.

Over the years, he could not completely deny the things he and Wang Pingchuan had done, so once Wang Pingchuan confessed, what awaited him was certainly severe legal punishment.

Hence, rather than that, it'd be better to confess voluntarily; maybe he really could strive for leniency!

After quickly weighing the options in his mind, he immediately made a decision.
