Chapter 87: First Aid (Requesting Subscriptions and Monthly Tickets)
Although the little boy is not in immediate life-threatening danger, Luo Fei noticed something amiss while checking with his phone's flashlight.
It seemed the boy was in an unusually deep sleep. Luo Fei shook him hard several times but couldn't wake him, and his face appeared pale with an abnormal bluish-purple hue.
Realizing something was wrong, Luo Fei was just about to take out his phone to call 120, when out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly saw Yang Dawei suddenly spring up from the ground and turn to dash toward the roadside woods.
However, with his hands cuffed behind him, running wasn't smooth, so he stumbled and barely made it two steps before Luo Fei caught up from behind.
Grasping the man's arms, Luo Fei shouted, "Yang Dawei, I advise you to behave yourself! You're now suspected of kidnapping and trafficking children. If you dare run again, that will add to your crimes!"
Saying so, he escorted him back, and to prevent another escape attempt, took out an extra pair of handcuffs, binding Yang Dawei's feet, then made him squat on the spot.
Only then did he take out his phone and continue dialing for emergency services.
Realizing he couldn't escape, Yang Dawei panicked.
"Officer, you can't just accuse people of kidnapping and trafficking children!"
As the call connected, Luo Fei smirked and pointed at the child in the suitcase, "You still want to deny it? The evidence is right in front of us!"
"This... this suitcase isn't mine. A friend asked me to keep it for two days, but how could I know there was a child inside? I'm being set up!"
Yang Dawei kept loudly protesting his innocence, but Luo Fei ignored him as the emergency center call connected.
"Hello."
"Is this the 120 command center? There's a child here who might not be doing well, so please send an ambulance over as soon as possible... Yes, the address is..."
He quickly reported their location. Once informed that the ambulance would arrive in at most ten minutes, Luo Fei felt a bit relieved.
He then quickly called Zhao Donglai.
As soon as the call connected, Zhao Donglai immediately asked, "Luo Fei, how's it going over there? If it's settled, hurry back! I just discussed with Zhang Fan and the others; even though you weren't here, this operation should include you."
Apparently, after taking Wang Pingchuan away, the three had a discussion and felt it was unfair for Luo Fei, unanimously deciding to include him.
Luo Fei was surprised, "Captain Zhao, you've already caught Wang Pingchuan?"
Just a moment ago, Zhao Donglai had notified the first, second, and third teams. Luo Fei thought they would wait for everyone to act together, but it seemed they had moved in advance.
"I wanted to avoid complications by taking action quickly," Zhao replied.
He continued, "But everyone should arrive soon. If you can get back, hurry!"
"I might not make it, Captain Zhao, because I've made a major discovery here!"
"What major discovery!"
"After following Yang Dawei and noticing something amiss, I controlled him, and you wouldn't believe what I found in his suitcase?"
"What did you find? Stop stalling, tell me..."
"I found an unconscious child. I seriously suspect the child was trafficked."
"What!"
Zhao Donglai was utterly shocked.
He had heard that human traffickers were using all sorts of tricks to hide children from searches, but hiding a child in a suitcase was alarming.
After all, a suitcase is small and suffocating. What if the child suffocated?
Did these guys not worry about accidents?
Since they dared to do this, they clearly weren't worried.
Luckily, Luo Fei followed up. If Luo Fei had stayed because of their words, and anything happened to the child tonight, he might never forgive himself!
Zhao Donglai shivered with fear at the thought and felt a surge of gratitude toward Luo Fei.
Then he heard Luo Fei say, "So Captain Zhao, it's best to send someone over to help, or I might not manage alone. Yang Dawei already tried to escape once..."
Hearing that Yang Dawei attempted to escape, Zhao Donglai's calmness faded away.
"Where are you? I'll send Yang Su over to help immediately!"
He added, "Make sure you keep a close watch on him, do not let him escape, got it!"
"I understand."
Luo Fei reported his location and, after hanging up, focused on Yang Dawei.
"Tell me, this child not waking up, did you drug him?"
He knew some traffickers sedated children during transfers to prevent them from crying and drawing attention.
This could explain why the child, stuffed in the suitcase and dragged the whole way, hadn't woken up.
Yang Dawei was still trying to wrangle, "I—I don't know, officer. I truly didn't know there's a child inside. Please, let me go, I'll pay you, okay?"
Luo Fei just laughed.
"Yang Dawei, openly bribing an officer in a case will add to your crimes."
"Officer, if you don't say and I don't say, who would know, right?"
"Did you think my law enforcement recorder is just for show?"
