Chapter 97: 97. Rent Office Buildings
"Hee hee, senior, did you forget me so soon? That's so sad!" The girl across from him smiled. Jason Liu was heading to the high-tech zone for business, not in the mood for small talk, especially with people he didn't recognize. Her voice was nice, but he wasn't interested. "Sorry, I don't know any schoolgirls. You must have the wrong number—"
Just as he was about to hang up, the caller's tone turned urgent. "Hey, wait, Jason Liu, don't hang up! It's me, Jiang Chuchu! Remember? We met outside the Wanda Cinema two months ago when you were with your classmate, Xiaohan."
As she mentioned it, Jason did vaguely remember. That day, he'd been caught off-guard by her teasing and had retreated quickly. He hadn't intended to see her again and wondered how she'd even gotten his number. Though he wasn't a fan of her forwardness, mentioning Xiaohan kept him from simply hanging up. He forced himself to sound polite. "Oh, right, you're that schoolgirl! Haha, I remember… So, what's up? I'm busy, though, so I'll have to hang up soon."
On the other end, Jiang Chuchu looked at her phone in disbelief. This was definitely Jason's number, but he seemed so indifferent. A young, attractive girl was calling him, yet he sounded ready to hang up? Inwardly, she fumed, cursing him to remain single for eternity.
Anxious he'd hang up, she quickly got to her point. "I was talking to Xiaohan yesterday, and she mentioned you were looking to register a company. I work for an agency that handles that, so I asked her for your number. Senior, how about letting me help you with your company registration?"
"Really? You work for an agency?" Jason sounded surprised. After a pause, he agreed. "Sure, if you can handle it, let's go with your company."
"Hee hee, thank you, senior! I knew you were as nice as Xiaohan said!" Jiang Chuchu's voice brightened, pleased to have secured the deal.
"Xiaohan said I was nice? What exactly did she say?" Jason hadn't expected Xiaohan to speak positively about him.
Caught off guard, Jiang Chuchu realized she'd been a bit too generous with her flattery. Compliments came easily in her line of work; they helped keep clients happy. But she hadn't expected Jason to take it so literally. She hesitated, then stammered, "Uh, well… she said you're hardworking and capable, especially since you're starting a business."
"Oh, I see." Jason nodded, feeling it made sense. Not many people in his class could manage business dealings across two worlds.
Relieved he hadn't pressed further, Jiang Chuchu steered the conversation back to logistics. "Where are you right now? Our office is in the southern district, so could you pick me up? I'd love to ride in your Ferrari!"
"The southern district?" Jason checked the map on his phone. It was across half the city—way too far. "That's pretty far. You'll save a lot of time if you just take a taxi."
Jiang Chuchu was stunned. Who cares about saving time? She wasn't asking for efficiency; she'd wanted a ride in his car. Feeling slighted, she forced herself to respond calmly, though she was seething inside. "Fine, I'll take a taxi."
Jason, glad he didn't have to drive all the way across the city, told her the address and headed to the high-tech zone to look for an office. Several new office buildings had opened in recent years, many with vacant spaces due to a slump in business. Following an employee from the management department, Jason toured a few available offices.
One office had been leased by a small game company that went bankrupt last month. The space was about 300 square meters, already furnished with basic decor, which seemed ideal for Jason's needs. The setup would save him both time and renovation costs; all he'd need to buy were desks, chairs, and computers, and he'd be ready to start.
The rent was reasonable, too—about 12,000 yuan a month, or 1.33 yuan per square meter per day. He found it perfectly manageable and began discussing contract terms.
As he finalized the details, his phone buzzed with a call from Jiang Chuchu. She had arrived at the high-tech industrial park and asked where he was.
"I'm on the 16th floor of the Science and Technology Building. Just take the elevator up, and you can help me check out the new office," he said, then hung up.
A few minutes later, Jiang Chuchu entered the building, dressed in black business attire and high heels. She found Jason in the middle of signing the lease with the building's management team.
"Hello, senior!" Jason greeted her with a grin. "What do you think of the place? This office was used by a small game company that went under, so it's already set up. Perfect for starting out."
Jiang Chuchu had initially planned to give him a hard time for making her come alone, but Jason's enthusiasm about the office softened her irritation. Sighing inwardly, she took a look around. Papers were scattered on the floor, but the place had a solid layout, with rooms already partitioned for offices and workstations.
"It's a good spot. Just needs some office furniture, and you'll be set to move in," she said, nodding approvingly. The size seemed just right for a new company, and the preexisting decor saved him significant setup costs.
As they continued discussing logistics, Jason couldn't help but feel pleased with the day's progress. Finding an office this suitable without renovation costs was rare,
