Game of Dragonborn.

Chapter 129 - Actions on Bear Island 03.

[Chapter Size: 2100 Words.]

Third Person POV.

Bear Sland.

...

...

"They simply left... why?" the little girl murmured as she looked at the now empty place. They had still left behind many weapons and siege tools, as if they had thrown away all the work of the last few weeks in trying to invade the Mormont fortress.

The place was completely deserted with no sign of the ironborn.

"We don't know, Lady Mormont. They simply left everything behind and moved toward the coast," the maester murmured.

"Maybe enemies arrived... If that happened, clearly the ironborn would immediately want to return to their ships and defend them," the castle's master-at-arms said.

"If that's really true, then we have some hope. The North may have finally sent reinforcements! Our people are reaching a limit, and our resources are running out..." the girl murmured a little uncertainly.

She was far too young for her position, but with the absence of her mother and sisters — with rumors saying all had died in the South — she had to assume leadership of House Mormont, not just due to the lack of a better claimant, but out of necessity.

"Maybe it's the free folk who passed the Wall," the maester suggested with a grimace.

"My uncle didn't warn me about that," Lady Mormont murmured.

"Damn... it can only be those savages. I'm not opening the gate for them," the master-at-arms murmured.

"You know the Wall has already fallen. And they have a bloody dragon! How can we fight that, my lord?" a soldier murmured.

Obviously, Jeor Mormont, who still remained Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, exchanged letters with his family, asking about the situation on the island after he awoke. At the same time, he informed them about the Wall's situation, because it was quite shocking: the Wall had fallen and nearly 200,000 wildlings were now in a massive camp at present.

There was no hiding how worried they were, feeling the situation growing even worse. They had lost most of their people in recent moons and weeks, and now they were faced with the wildling group — who had never passed the Wall before in history — so close to them.

Obviously, the northerners didn't trust them, due to the relationship they'd always had throughout history...

"We'll have to wait and see who comes to our gates... the ironborn, or whoever is fighting them," Lady Mormont murmured.

And it was at that moment that, suddenly, a booming explosion erupted, making everyone inside the walls look around in shock, as a roar from a giant creature rose, causing some to fall to the ground, stunned.

"What is that?" a soldier stammered.

"No doubt. It's the dragon... the one we heard about. He brought it to Bear Island!" the maester was shocked, while the girl had a glint of fear in her eyes, unable to see what was happening in the distance as they remained on the fortified towers of Mormont's stronghold, looking toward the coast, but unable to see it clearly from there as it was a bit far.

Meanwhile, on the coast, men were bathed in white flames at that very moment, while the dragon tore through a large portion of the gathered group.

Everyone among the ironborn tried to run, but were frozen and killed right there, white flames devouring them alive.

Winter continued firing her flames as she crossed a line through nearly 3,000 enemies, cutting them in two. The men began to scatter in panic.

Then, she turned back and advanced toward the group on the side of the Mormont fortress, while Jon stood calmly on the beach with the free folk, watching everything.

The enemies on his side now had only two choices: either run to the beach where they were among the ships, or go to the sides, which was more difficult.

At least 800 men, Winter managed to freeze in her first attack, before she began firing flames at the other group as well, killing hundreds more in moments.

Even those who weren't directly hit began to fall as the ice penetrated the air, entering their lungs and injuring them instantly.

The group on the beach looked over the flames as they tried to retreat immediately, the cold burning them, forcing them to drop their weapons.

For those closest, their skin corroded from a cold they had never felt before, screaming in pain and dying in an even more horrible and slow way.

"To the beach!" they shouted and began to run through the white flames in pure desperation.

"Anyone who approaches, kill them without mercy," Jon said, already knowing they didn't need to stand back watching the enemies die while the ice dragon did all the work.

The dragon turned around once more and, as they ran on the beach and looked on in fear, realizing they were the targets, Winter fired her flames that burned across the beach, hitting a hundred of the group as they ran in even greater panic, greatly reducing the number rushing toward Jon.

Jon looked at his female dragon. His eyes turned white as he asked the she-dragon to continue hunting the group on the other side.

Those using the beach were already drastically reduced in number and greatly debilitated by the frozen air affecting their lungs.

Even if it didn't kill them, they could hardly move anymore.

"Please... spare us!" the first man to arrive shouted, dropping his weapons and kneeling.

More and more began to do the same, begging for mercy — all survivors without the will to fight — while the free folk looked somewhat uncertainly at Jon.

Jon, without hesitation, took an axe from Val's waist beside him, surprising her, and simply threw it at the kneeling man, striking directly in his head and killing him.

"There will be no mercy for these people. Slaughter them all!" Jon said firmly.

His men quickly began charging at the group, raising their weapons, while the ironborn were terrified.

But there would be no mercy. They had killed men and children, enslaved many and taken them to Pyke, abused the women, and even killed many of them.

There would be no mercy.

A bloodbath began right there.

As they tried to flee to the other sides of the beach, they saw that the free folk were massacring them.

Arrows began flying at them, while Ygritte grabbed her bow and kept firing precise shots into vital points, dropping them one by one.

Soon, the group of hundreds began to shrink quickly, and those who saw they could neither flee nor surrender tried to fight for their lives.

Even so, they didn't last long.

"What is dead may never die!" they growled in their final moments.

It was something they always said when dying since Jon had first encountered them, but he didn't care much for such nonsense.

And with that, Jon had many to kill.

Winter, on the other side, delighted herself as she continued spewing flames onto the ground, creating shards of ice everywhere, with the men running into the woods seeking refuge from the massive dragon hunting them.

And surely, as they split more and more, Winter could kill fewer of them with her breath.

She was now hunting only groups of dozens of ironborn, even individual enemies.

Even so, the damage was already done, and all 4,000 original ironborn had perhaps become only 500 by this point.

"Let's move the ships from here and take them to the other side of the island where the other rescued captives are. After that, we'll hunt down the remaining ironborn," Jon said as he gave orders after killing the last men.

That area was becoming too dangerous with the wind bringing a freezing cold over the entire frozen land. They had to move to a safe distance, or they might end up killing their own free folk.

The ships were quickly prepared to sail, with the free folk already knowing how they worked after their short journey to the island. As long as it wasn't too far, they managed to handle the ships and left the beach immediately.

"Val, I want you to take charge of leading the free folk now. I'll leave four direwolves with you. I'm going straight to the Mormont fortress to speak with them," Jon said, remaining alone on the beach, accompanied only by the wolves.

Val nodded and watched him walk away moments later, while all the ships left the beach. Jon looked at the wolves and asked them to circle around the entire destroyed area, while he couldn't say he'd leave without harm himself. He took a slightly closer path than the wolves as he now advanced toward the Mormont Fortress at last.

The dragon roared once more... and Jon saw that she was frustrated, as the ironborn were scattered across the island and Winter was now having difficulty hunting them.

Leaving that aside, he pressed on, spotting one ironborn after another appearing, while the direwolves simply charged forward, massacring them. The screams of the victims alerted others nearby, making them flee in even greater desperation.

Jon began killing anyone who got close to him, with them mistaking Jon for an ironborn because of the armor he still wore.

And so he moved forward, taking a horse left by the enemy and arriving at the Northern Fortress.

There, he could see the ironborn begging for help, trying to climb the walls, with the very men inside the fortress looking stunned, watching the desperation of the enemies who had been massacring their people just moments ago.

To Jon, it was ironic.

Jon stopped at a safe distance, while those on the walls didn't know what to do.

Lady Mormont stood looking disoriented, as all that had come from the beach were just a few dozen men. The creature's roar was heard again in the distance, and they could briefly see her closer to the castle, in the sky, like a bird hunting its prey.

From time to time, Winter would dive and release her flames into the forests themselves, whenever she spotted a survivor of her previous attack.

Jon looked at the walls and, determined to silence all those men, took out his bow with arrows from his dimensional space.

He aimed at them and began shooting, easily hitting them from a distance of 200 meters.

The people on the walls were astonished at the man wearing the same armor as the ironborn, killing his own kind from that distance, while some tried to flee, only to be hit and scream in pain.

Some of them survived the first arrow, but their cries didn't last long before another arrow struck them, silencing them forever.

Jon killed more than forty ironborn in five minutes, continuing to fire arrows until he put the bow away and looked at the fortress walls.

Some men stared back at him, seeing a man now surrounded by several direwolves.

"My name is Daemon Targaryen. I am leading the assault against the Ironborn. I request entry into the fortress and a meeting with Lady Mormont," Jon said.

His voice echoed through the area as the onlookers whispered among themselves.

It took a moment, but there was no choice: either they let him speak with Lady Mormont personally, alone, or they would have to deal with a dragon.

The gate soon opened, and Jon mounted his horse again, advancing with the direwolves following him.

As he passed through the walls, with no one attacking — despite the caution in everyone's eyes, for they had never seen a man kill forty others with arrows alone — Jon's gaze fell on the people: mostly children and the elderly, who looked at him with unease.

There were armed men and even women as well, staring him down.

There were certainly at least two thousand fighters serving House Mormont to defend the walls, while there were at least five thousand survivors who could not fight.

He continued passing through them all, until finally, in front of the fortress, he found a maester, a master-at-arms, and a little girl watching with caution, a glint of fear in her eyes.

Jon recognized her as Lyanna Mormont — bearing her mother's name, likely because Maege had honored her, since the bear-woman had greatly admired Lyanna, the she-wolf of the North, in her youth.

Jon stopped his horse and dismounted, advancing with calm steps as the crowd still watched him with great caution, waiting for any hostile movement that would signal they should fight the "monster."

But Jon approached only a few meters before stopping.

His giant wolves stayed behind as he gave a slight smile to Lyanna.

"Hello, Lyanna. My name is Daemon Targaryen. I am here to restore order on Bear Island and drive out all ironborn — from here and from all of the North," Jon explained.
