Chapter 49: 49:The Doer Behind
BANG!
"SPARE ME! UUUUHHHH!"
"AHAH….AHHH…OH MY GODDD!"
Hex's legs went weak for a moment and his face paled.
GULP!
"Is this a detention centre or a torture hall…" he muttered. The screams tore through his ear drums, making his skin crawl and his stomach twist.
"I should run…"
He had already turned to leave when a voice called out.
"Yooo. Boy, what brings you here?"
Hex froze and turned his head back in robotic motion.
Aon walked out of the shadows with his usual ever-smiling face. For some reason, that smile made Hex feel oddly relaxed. Aon never acted high and mighty. As long as you knew your place, he was easy to get along with.
But his bad side? Hex didn't even want to imagine.
"Hello, sir." Hex saluted at once, his posture straight and formal.
Aon's eyes gleamed. He loved it when cadets followed procedure and showed respect. It always warmed his heart.
"Sir…" Hex glanced nervously toward the room where the screams still echoed. "Those cries… Do you hit everyone who gets sent here? What if someone was innocent or it was just a misunderstanding?"
Aon chuckled, waving a hand. "Don't worry. Before I lay a hand on anyone, I make sure I know exactly what's going on. If there's even a small doubt, I don't touch them. But that pig…" His smile vanished. His face twisted into disgust. "Do you know what he did?"
Hex shook his head.
"That bastard sneaked into the girls' dorm and tried to peep."
"WHAAAT?!" Hex almost jumped. His voice cracked in shock. He knew there were perverts, but to actually sneak into the girls' dorm…
"How did he even get in there?"Hex stiffened.
"He used invisibility. Another fool using his power the wrong way."
"He thought he was smartass and no one could detect but little did that bum ass know that the camera has thermal imaging."
Aon sneered, then gave Hex a grin that sent a chill down his spine. "If the Federation hadn't tied my hands, I'd have skinned that rat alive."
" The man looked like he actually meant it.
Aon clicked his tongue. "The army is a place to rise, but it's also where twisted people crawl out with all kinds of sick fetishes. We send people all over the world. How can anyone monitor everyone?"
Yeah… and this is the hall where psychos get tortured… Hex muttered in his mind.
"But tell me, why are you here?" Aon asked, folding his arms.
"I wanted to ask about that case… What happened afterward?"
"We found that guy." Aon's tone turned flat. "But he took the blame on himself."
Hex frowned. "But I didn't even know him."
"He said it was supposed to be a prank for his friend Rex. A little bullying. But those three idiots mistook Rex for Hex." Aon spat on the ground. "After they realized, they came for you. Your quick reaction broke one guy's leg, and then the others attacked."
Hex's mouth opened, then closed. He had no words.
"Do you believe that crap?" Aon asked sharply.
"No," Hex said at once.
"Good." Aon clicked his tongue again. "He's just lucky that the guy in charge of the Detention hall in their block is a pushover, scared because of backgrounds. If it were me, by now he'd be hanging with a rod shoved up his ass."
Hex shivered. His stomach churned, though he forced himself to stand firm. Aon must have thought he was scared because he patted him on the shoulder.
"These guys won't stop playing tricks. They won't dare try to kill you, but they'll make things hard. Don't worry. As long as you stand on the right side and stay in my block, I'll make sure the ones who step out of line are punished."
Hex nodded slowly, still shaken by the sheer brutality shown here.
The screams in the hall echoed again, chilling him to the bone.
...….
The stars stretched endlessly across the black ocean of space. A massive ship drifted in silence, surrounded by dozens of smaller crafts that circled around it like loyal guardians.
Inside, the atmosphere was calm yet heavy, as if time itself had slowed.
At the center of one chamber, a girl floated gracefully in midair. Her long pink hair shimmered faintly, catching the glow of the room's lights. A soft pink aura spread around her body like a veil, filling the chamber with an almost dreamlike hue. Her expression was cold, calm, and distant, like still water untouched by wind.
The pressure radiating from her body was immense, pressing down on the chamber walls.
She was seated in meditation, her legs crossed, eyes closed, and hands resting lightly on her knees.
The room was a gravity chamber. At that moment it was set to ten times the gravity of Earth.
Yet it did not seem to affect her in the slightest. Her breathing was steady, her posture relaxed, as if the crushing force meant nothing to her.
Minutes passed in silence until her eyelids flickered open. Her eyes glowed faintly, sharp and full of power. She turned as the sound of footsteps echoed across the chamber. A tall figure walked inside, his body covered in a mechanical suit that hissed and clicked with every step.
The suit glowed for a moment before dispersing the layers breaking apart and vanishing into the air like smoke. Standing there was a man with blonde hair, having a tired yet dignified face.
"Sigh… We still could not find him," the man muttered as he rubbed the back of his neck. His voice was heavy, carrying the weight of frustration. "God knows which wormhole he slipped into this time."
As he spoke, his eyes dropped to the stump of her left arm. A mechanical replacement was attached there, wires and plating showing faint cracks.
The girl's gaze softened. "It is fine, Brother. Finding someone with a strong healing ability at six-star is almost impossible. You know this. Most healers struggle even to pass the fourth star, let alone reach higher."
