Forest Ranger, starting from Picking Up a Lynx Girl

Chapter 557: Shocked—Dissimilar Falcons, How to Relate (Part 2)

The female observer picked up the camera, zoomed in, and snapped a couple of pictures.

"Mr. Chen, look, this is a bird's nest, a damaged bird's nest, with egg shells inside."

Being a bird expert, she instantly recognized it as a falcon's nest.

In the wild, falcons usually choose cliff rock cavities or tall treetops. This time, the abandoned nest they found was located right at a sunny treetop edge of the cliff.

Chen Ying quickly pondered; judging from the past behavior of the monkey group, the abandonment of this nest is likely related to them.

However, unlike macaques and Tibetan chief monkeys, golden snub-nosed monkeys do not have the habit of eating bird eggs. They are pure vegetarians. Their digestive systems are adapted to high-fiber foods, lacking the ability to efficiently secrete enzymes for digesting animal protein.

But monkeys are curious creatures, even the zen-like golden snub-nosed monkeys can't resist the curiosity to climb up and see what bird eggs look like.

Just as they were talking, the little golden snub-nosed monkey, hidden in a specially made backpack on Chen Ying's chest, woke up, squeaked twice, and swiftly emerged.

"Squeak, I think I've been here before?"

The little monkey rubbed its eyes and looked around.

"Squeak, this is my home!"

The little monkey struggled to unzip his clothes, with its tiny, bandaged head climbed onto Chen Ying's shoulder and sat down, clutching his hair tightly.

Perhaps the little monkey's squeaks attracted nearby watchful monkeys, as soon two larger golden snub-nosed monkeys appeared on the ground near them.

The monkey baby seemed to sense something, wanting to approach but afraid, hesitated several times without daring to leave Chen Ying's side.

In the end, Chen Ying couldn't stand it anymore, took the monkey baby in his arms, signaled the companion to stay put, and slowly approached the two big golden snub-nosed monkeys.

Seeing Chen Ying approach, the slightly younger golden monkey showed caution, even a hint of aggression, but the other big golden monkey seemed to be in a daze.

"Squeak~" Just as the younger golden monkey wanted to attack, the older golden monkey suddenly slapped it down, rushed over to Chen Ying, grabbed his hand, and sniffed vigorously like a stalker, making the female observer's face turn pale.

Chen Ying seemed to realize something too, he placed the little monkey back on his shoulder, freed his hand to touch the older monkey's ear, where a thumb-sized piece was missing, along with a small patch of fur, and there was a scar left by stitches.

"Little Scar? It's you, Little Scar!" Chen Ying was overjoyed, squatted halfway, and embraced the older golden monkey, "I never thought I could see you again."

Little Scar was also excited, chirping loudly several times while holding onto Chen Ying, and even wanted to drag him into the woods.

"Don't rush, Little Scar. Hey, is this your tribe's little baby?"

Little Scar glanced at the monkey baby, casually passed it to the young monkey's arms.

"Squeak, this is my child, the naughtiest one. I thought it was dead."

Chen Ying understood Little Scar's words, but didn't sense any sadness from him; the guy certainly spared no effort when dealing with his child.

But now was not the time to argue with Little Scar; it was clear he wanted to introduce him to other monkeys from the tribe. Could this tribe be the one that lived near the emergency station before?

But at that time, Chen had confirmed that the golden snub-nosed monkeys living near Huaqiu Valley had moved to the depths of Old Northern Gully, where the elevation is a bit higher, with almost no human disturbance, making it more suitable for golden snub-nosed monkeys to live.

After walking about thirty meters into the woods, the trees here were denser, preventing medium and large birds, especially speedy medium and large raptors, from entering.

A skinny female monkey was having her fur groomed by an older monkey, and the atmosphere of the whole monkey group seemed a bit downcast.

"Squeak, squeak squeak!" The young monkey carrying the monkey baby darted to the female monkey's side, and before it could settle down, the mother monkey snatched the monkey baby away.

The mother monkey, overwhelmed with excitement by the return of her lost child, trembled all over, clutched her child tightly, and climbed up the tree in a few moments, hiding in the dense treetop.

Seeing the monkey baby return to the mother monkey's arms, Chen Ying finally relaxed, only to turn around and see a somewhat familiar monkey face right in front of him.

"Brother Monkey? Is that you, Brother Monkey?"

The strong male monkey was now a size larger than before, less youthful, but added a level of composure.

Indeed, it was an old familiar monkey; Chen Ying hugged Brother Monkey again, then sat down to let Brother Monkey brush his hair while having a casual chat under the astonished gaze of the female observer.

"So you guys suffered from a disaster beyond your control? The culprit was a big rat, and you took the hit? Doesn't make sense, what rat is so bold to deliver itself to the door?"

"Squeak, the rat looked different from what I've seen before. It went to the bird's nest and stole an egg, then ran away. Some little monkeys curiously followed to take a look and got caught."

Generally speaking, when falcons are incubating, they won't leave the nest for too long. But incubation takes a long time, they need to move around a bit, so every day there's a brief time when the female bird leaves the nest, and it's during this period that the eggs are most at risk.

The unidentified rodent stole the egg right at that moment, no one knows if it was staking out.

The monkeys curiously went to check the nest situation, but were caught by the returning female bird red-handed, and in the chaos, the monkey kicked over the bird's nest...
