Chapter 8: Quit the messanger
"Elder Chang, the honor's all mine. It's really good to be back home." Kodak smiled, bowing a bit to the old man with wrinkles. wearing a brown wool coat, with a blend of red yellow and blue patterns woven on the chest.
"Haha! Kodak boy, you've never lost your sweet touch. It's a shame though you chose Leona over me." An old woman wearing a black dress smirked, winking at Kodak. "You know am still available if you change your mind." She added licking her lips in what she deemed to be a seductive manner, greedily staring at Kodak.
"You shameful old hag have some decency." Another old woman with grey hair wearing a yellow coat spoke with disgust, darting a murderous glare at the other.
"Hmph what? Am just shooting my shot, you never know what'll happen." Babayaga the woman in black dress scoffed, puffing her cheeks and crossing her arm to her chest. "And besides.. I and Kodak have something special, so stop being a jealous old bitch and get your own baby daddy." Babayaga yelled to darling, causing her eyes to twitch slightly.
"W-what did you just call me." Darling fumed, her face tinted red with anger as her blood boiled more. Her fist were already clenched tightly as she was about getting up, to teach this old promiscuous woman a lesson.
"Hahaha!" Kodak laughed without a care in the world, garning the attention of everyone wiping a tear from his eyes. Looking at the two old women, a bright warm smile was plastered on his face.
"I can see you two still have some rivalry.. it's good to know some things never change." Kodak smiled to which darling simply scoffed looking away, while babayaga blushed winking at Kodak.
"Anyways~ I would love to hear about your mission with god kira, the god of fire. How is he? Considering you took longer than expected it must definitely be something important." Master gore an old man in a strange quilt with bushy big dark brows said, in a neutral tone with a hint of excitement.
"Of course master gore. God kira is fine and sends his greetings to you all." Kodak smiled, to which they all nodded. Babayaga with her nature even going as far as to wink at Kodak, earning a piercing glare from darling.
'These women.. they never stop finding new ways to amaze me.' Kodak inwardly thought sighing a bit. It wasn't that he didn't appreciate their kind, awkward gestures no! Infact he loved it, as it reminded him of what it felt like to be human.
Gods didn't exhibit emotions like humans or react out of feelings no. They were clear minded and only reacted to certain situations, under certain reasons and circumstances.
Yes they laughed and showed signs of their human nature, but in a transcendant way. As a messanger of the god, Kodak had a bit of kira's power which also meant he had a bit of kira's personality.
At first he didn't notice it, but slowly he started noticing the changes in his attitude and even the people around him confirmed it. It wasn't a problem for now, at least he was still a messanger and far from being a god.
"Before I start I must ask, where is head elder valine?" Kodak said searching round, as the last wooden seat in the middle was empty. There were five chairs in total in the room, but only four were occupied leaving one.
"Oh! she's currently meditating at the spiritual garden. But don't worry.. am sure she's well aware of your arrival, she should be here any minute." Elder Chang calmly said to which Kodak nodded, he then began his tale of his last mission with kira the god of fire, to which they payed attention to attentively. Master gore's eye were glistening with excitement, as his ears downloaded all the information Kodak spilt.
"Wait.. so you mean you actually fought a d-dragon with kira?" Master gore stuttered with disbelief. A dragon was considered a high level beast, capable of destroying an entire continent. Only a group of high level cultivators could take it down.
"Yes. though God kira did most of the damage, while I helped out." Kodak chuckled nervously, scratching his head.
"You don't need to be shy honey infact.. you should be proud. Not only have you achieved a lot as a messanger, you also helped a god defeat a dragon." Babayaga praised Kodak, her eyes sparkling with pride.
"Unlike some slackeys." Babayaga muttered glancing at the others.
"Who the hell are you calling slackey you hag!" Darling roared, ready to pounce on babayaga but was stopped by Kodak. The tension died down a bit as the latter resumed his speech, filling them on what he learned while in the temple.
"No fucking way.. y-you beat kira, a god?" Master gore said in shock, as even the others were astonished by Kodak's words.
"It wasn't really a fight, more like a friendly duel. and the only reason I won was because he let his guard down." It was true he won kira, but only by careful and precise thinking along with future step did he win. If kira hadn't let his guard down, then Kodak couldn't have capitalized.
'I wonder if I truly tricked him or he handed me the victory?' Something about the victory didn't seem right to Kodak, as he felt like kira handed him the victory.
"So you're saying a god level sword is in your possession?" Darling asked to which Kodak nodded.
"It's currently back at the temple but yes, he gave me his sword." Kodak calmly said in an indifferent tone. A god level item was something considered a myth, as it could only be crafted by a god. Messangers of gods usually had equipments not so high but standard, only few having high level equipments. While only one or two, never more has been recorded to posses a god level equipment.
"Incredible.. with the addition of the sword our village security would increase greatly." Elder Chang laughed, gently brushing his white beard.
"Kodak my boy you've really outdone yourself." Master gore smiled tapping Kodak's shoulder.
'I can't tell them about the death of a god or the dark realm.' While Kodak had told them somethings, he refrained from revealing the whole details. As he'd already been warned not to, and he didn't want to put their mind unease.
'And I certainly can't tell them how the gods destroyed a planet or they'll freak out and definitely loose faith.' The death of a god was one thing to worry about, and the dark realm. But the addition of a planet destruction, by the gods they worshipped was a different thing entirely.
Gods were immortal having transcended past the divine realm, which meant they couldn't die. So how could Kodak possibly say the immortal entities they worshipped, could be killed by something from the dark realm? It would break their hearts and faith, which would lead to them questioning their stand with the gods. weakening their faiths, which would in turn lead to the gods becoming more weaker.
"Kodak! Kodak!" He was pulled from his trance by babayaga's voice.
"What happened? We kinda lost you there for a moment."
"S-sorry I must be getting old, I was lost in my thoughts there for a second." Kodak awkwardly said. He could see they were staring at him weirdly.
"What thoughts? You did tell us everything, or are you perhaps hiding something?" Darling questioned with a suspicious look, staring a hole through Kodak with her brow raised.
"Geez.. lay off him you creepy witch. He's probably just thinking about the future of the village." Babayaga butted in, frowning at darling.
"Really? Or maybe he's thinking of how to escape from your dark clutches, you fucking hag!" Darling retorded making babayaga's eye contort.
"Why you-"
"Darling, babayaga please.. let's try to postpone the bickering for later. afterall.. we're all matured, so why don't we act so." A soft feminine voice resounded in the room, followed by the appearance of a bright white light. The light then formed the figure of a woman as it dimmed down, revealing the silhouette in front.
She was an old woman a bit taller than the rest. Wearing a white long gown with several colourful beads around her neck and wrist, giving it a blend of simple yet elegant look. Unlike babayaga and darling whom had some wrinkles visible she didn't, as she looked much younger than them.
"Head elder valine." they all bowed their heads but she simply ignored them, her eyes focused on Kodak.
"Kodak!" She smiled wrapping him in a warm hug, her blue eyes sparkling with joy.
"Head elder! it's a pleasure to see you. How've you been?"
"Oh! Good.. good~ other than having to put up with these two idiots constant nagging that is." She jokingly said, to which they all laughed it off.
"Oh! and don't bother.. I already heard all what you said." Valine said, giving Kodak two light taps as she proceeded to seat on her chair.
"Infact, the reason we called for this meeting is concerning the gods." She said her face turning serious.
"What about them?" Kodak asked confused not knowing what she meant.
"I won't beat around the bush so I'll come out straight.. We want you to quit being a messanger for the gods."
