Final Messiah System

Chapter 12: First Mission Set Up

After everyone signed the contract, training began and went by like a breeze.

It was a mix of running and gunning with simulated firearms as well as some weapons fighting in one of the many wide-spaced rooms with one of the other knights.

However, due to their classes, that was merely minor.

Being a Cleric and a Priestess essentially meant that they were supposed to be supports for the more combat-oriented troops.

So, most of the training was actually for their skills of healing, cleansing, and buffing.

At first David was worried because he didn't know any skills like that.

However, Thamiel was very helpful as he unlocked several skills and powers from the System when they were asked to train.

All of the powers were from the Cleric class too, since apparently it was derivative from the Messiah class, whatever that meant…

In the end, the System didn't count this as a proper mission but he gained the powers:

[Cause Minor Wounds E: Damage all living enemies within 30 feet of you per Mana Point spent]

[Empower E: Increase the Strength and Durability of all living allies within 30 feet of you, a minute per Mana Point spent]

[Knockback E: Touch a target and knock them back 10 feet away from you per Mana Point spent]

[Heal Minor Wounds E: Heal all living allies within 30 feet of you per Mana Point spent]

Which were all quite useful for sure, but inherently weaker than his [Blaster Set] and [Shura Stealth Fiend Set], but it should work out for now.

Actually, many were quite impressed with how fast he managed to learn and gain these skills since the quests for them usually need one to study and be knowledgeable about the human body.

However, since it was a time of crises it was quickly glossed over and he was instead praised heavily by everyone else while he essentially stood there awkwardly laughing.

"Oh yeah it's uh nothing at all, maybe I just did all the prerequisites before!"

Elizabeth tilted her head in wonder. "Is that what you were doing all day in your room alone when you locked the door?"

Bastion then added in from the sidelines. "Yes with all the grunting and all the-"

David turned around and waved his arms in the air. "Yeah, the fruits of my training have been born! Now let's continue while we have more time!"

A few days went by full of hard training, however for some reason no more level up points were unlocked.

This caused David to be a little more restless and determined than he would usually be so he started to train even more than the others.

There was a consolation though, he finally synthesized those 13 Demonic Closed Eye Essences into 3 E+ Ranked Strength Potions that can last for a minute each.

But finally the day came when Marcus called everyone back, announcing that the mission was going to take place in 12 hours so it was time to prepare.

Everyone was routed into small parties, investigation teams that can double as an assault squad when needed.

Each one had a Cleric for buffs and support, a Priestess for healing, and a [Knight] for offensive and defensive value.

Priest classes and Scribe classes, meanwhile, were going to study and essentially be the eyes and ears of the mission.

They worked outside of the field but watched it via scrying orbs that would follow around and communicate with the team.

Class ranking was generally around the E to C ranks. Some classes are grade-locked, but some exist in many ranks, such as Warrior, so you would see a variety of them around.

Since they came in together, Mary was already in David's group from the beginning. However, those who were new were the Knight and the Scribe of their team that they met in training.

"Huh, so you're the ones I'm going to be babysitting?" The one who spoke was standing in the middle of their mission room right beside the table.

She was a beautiful woman who looked much older than the rest of them, probably around her 30s or even greater.

Wearing full plate armor except for her helmet, she was rather tall with long brown hair and a permanently tired scowl on her face that matched with a scar over her lips.

There was something rather familiar about her that David couldn't place

Mary tilted her head in confusion. "Uhm? Babysitting? Don't you mean partnering up?"

She looked to David for help who just shrugged as well, he couldn't exactly make heads or tails of why she talked like that.

"I guess she is?"

The lady rubbed her temples and groaned. "Are you two Mary and David?"

"Yes, that's us." They both said in unison before looking at each other and laughing.

"Alright then, I am Aelwenna, Paladin Class; for some reason, I'm here to watch over the two of you because this is your first mission, and we would like you all alive."

David and Mary's eyes widened in shock. One of the Rank locked classes were Paladins, you'd need to be an A Rank to have a system like that.

Why was she assigned to them? What was going on here?

"D-don't you have something-" Mary was interrupted quickly by Aelwenna.

"Yeah, apparently I don't have anything better to do, and you kids need to make it out alive so they're sending me to babysit you two in the field."

David was a little taken aback by her rudeness and how tired she looked, but he kind of understood what was happening.

If someone asked him to babysit some toddlers he wouldn't really enjoy it either, and that was the gap between her and him… or well.

That was the perceived gap; he knew he had more potential than anything she could muster or conceive.

He was getting more annoyed by this restriction by the minute.

Mary on the other hand was far more accepting, she was very much used to the adults essentially helping out, even if they were rather rude. "O-oh? Well, thank you Ms Aelwenna for the support."

"Yeah yeah…" She waved her hand in the air nonchalantly before sighing.

"Don't expect me to carry everything, I'm only here when shit hits the fan. It probably won't though so at least there's that."

"Well… thank you for that anyway, I'm sure we'll be able to pull our weight around." Mary raised her staff into the air, trying to sound as excited as can be.

"Good, that's the spirit. The Scribe will be a colleague of mine so you're in safe hands, relatively speaking. So now that you've gotten everything in order, are you all ready?"

The two of them nodded along before Aelwenna held a talisman in her hand, causing it to glow as everyone disappeared from sight.

In an instant, everyone reappeared on the ruins of the apartment complex, specifically, right on the grounds surrounding the buildings.

Immediately ,a small glowing sensory orb appeared above them. "Testing, can you hear me and did everyone make it through?"

A man's voice spoke from the sensor.

"Yeah yeah Antonio, we're all here and we can hear you."

"Good, good, no disturbances with the signal thus far and everything else looks okay. Alright so…"

The orb flew to the ground and rotated around David and Mary. "All vitals good as well, now then, short introduction, my name is Antonio, and I shall be your Scribe today. I will be the scout to look around and tell you of any danger. You can trust me. Understood?"

Both David and Mary nodded along toward the floating orb.

"Good, I shall also be your guide to this area and shall assign mission objectives, number one being to figure out why there is demonic energy here. Now then, since that was settled, I think we all know that it's time to begin?"

"Yeah, enough yapping from you, let's cut to the chase and get this over with so that I can go back to my break." Aelwanna yawned a little as she looked like she was missing several hours of sleep somehow.

"Alright alright, don't get so cranky in front of the kids. Anyways! We move forward, into the unknown!"

And with that, the talkative orb shot straight ahead into the abandoned complex going ever deeper into it while the rest followed suit.
