Unwelcome Guest III
As he focused his attention on the place where he felt a teleportation made breach in his bounded field, Jun's grin turned into a sigh filled with disappointment.
"What is it?" Penthesilea asked.
"It turns out the intruder is not a pawn of the Great King Faction and just a stupid fucking idiot who thought my rules somehow did not apply to him." Jun responded with a voice like he was already fed up with the situation.
All of his baiting made worthless by a fool with an inflated ego. The worst part about it, was that technically, the idiot was apart of the Four Satan Faction, meaning that making an example out of him would antagonize the wrong faction.
But even then, the intruder had been the first individual of any importance to ignore Jun's rules. As such, Jun's response would dictate how seriously his enemies and allies would take his words in the future.
In another way of putting it, Jun could not afford to be lenient despite having no wish to antagonize the force behind the intruder, Riser Phenex.
Morgan seemed to be even more irate than before. Such an infringement upon her husband's authority that was not even a measured move by their enemy but merely a buffoon that had no idea who he was dealing with. It was insulting.
Penthesilea on the other hand, was looking angry at the fact that the plan to bait the Great King Faction in order to get a proper excuse to star a hunt on their members was ruined by the actions of a fool that technically belonged to their side since Jun's group was unofficially aligned with the Four Satans Faction.
Scathach was merely feeling disappointed that an opportunity for some actual battle training would be getting away from them. Her anger towards Riser wasn't that intense.
Cleria was the only one off key, being quite worried instead.
"Can you just give him some light punishment for show then dear? Since technically he's part of our allied faction and all." She suggested.
The atmosphere in the room froze as the other three women stared at her with palpable seriousness while Jun just felt like facepalming.
'Great! Just great! I know Cleria just failed to see the point but the others definitely won't take kindly to her words. Now I have another issue to deal with, an internal one to boot . . .' He thought to himself with an internal sigh.
Morgan who was already quite bloodthirst wanted to suggest execution for the crime of daring to suggest mercy, even though she knew Jun would ever off Cleria for such an offence.
Penthesilea was also mad. An arrogant idiot doing something to harm her husband's prestige was of course a crime to be punished but but such a slight was not to uncommon for an individual of high prestige.
That being the case, she was only previously mad at the fact that those actions inadvertently messed up their well crafted plan to deal with an enemy.
However, when such a slight, such a mockery of Jun's image and authority came from one of their own, a woman who enjoyed the position of queen, same as them even. Now that was not something that could be easily forgiven.
Even Scathach was giving Cleria a sharp prickly gaze. She hadn't been that mad at the previous situation because she knew how it would end and that her husband would take appropriate measures to ensure it.
But for one of their own to try to undermine him in such a way by pleading for mercy? It was treason and that was something the Queen of Dun Scaith did not tolerate.
Cleria clearly realized she said something wrong, not just because of the cold stares but also due to the small tells she picked up from Jun after knowing him for so long.
His reaction was that of being fed up with problems which meant her words were enough to cause a problem and that was the last thing she wished for.
Yes, she did not want Riser to suffer too much but what she considered a mere foolish mistake from a hot blooded young man but if it was between that and causing trouble to her own group then Riser could go screw himself because she had her priorities straight.
Seeing the situation devolve however, Jun decided to preemptively tell Cleria the significance of her actions before her fellow queens said something that could not be taken back.
'Seriously, compared to the folk from the Nasuverse, the people from DxD seem to lack a sort of seriousness or should I say decisiveness . . .' Jun thought to himself before he explained to his less experienced wife the implications of her previous words.
"Cleria . . . If I do that, no if I even give him a punishment that is in any way mild, it will be basically telling the whole world I'm a joke and by words have no weight to them." He started.
"Not only will my reputation be in tatters, countless possible enemies will see it as a sign of weakness, an opportunity for them to exploit, an easy target if you will."
"In the end, only after dealing with those that come after using disproportionately harsh means and do it consistently for a while, will some of my prestige return. But even then, the way people will look at us will be different."
"The more severe methods required to earn back our prestige will most certainly earn us some hostility from the more stable and established factions so in the end. The most we can do if we chose mercy is cut our losses to a minimum but even then, it's not going to be pretty." Jun concluded.
His explanation was one of the more logical side of things but, it allowed Cleria to immediately realize the reason for his fellow queens' cold stares.
