Chapter 128: Awakening, Dog Bro vs Uncle B
Turning her head again, Shirou had already disappeared.
Olga Marie's gaze went blank, muttering to herself, "That guy… can he still even be called human?"
The blazing crimson radiance had yet to fade, greedily reflecting off Olga Marie's delicate profile. Making her look utterly dazed.
"Sigh!"
Staring at the pillar of fire rising into the sky, Cu Chulainn let out a troubled sigh, "Didn't we agree I'd handle this? That move just evaporated the guy, didn't it?"
'And that weapon, if I didn't see wrong…'
"Hm?"
Cu Chulainn stared hard into the flames, then grinned wide, "Haha, now this is interesting. Come on, Berserker!"
He threw down the challenge.
"ROAR!"
The thick blaze was blasted apart by overwhelming might, the strongest hero unleashing an unmatched bellow.
He had seen Cu Chulainn's provocation.
So, no need to think.
His legs bent.
The earth cracked open, crushed like tofu under brutal force.
"—Nani?"
Under Cu Chulainn's horrified gaze, Heracles appeared before him in the blink of an eye.
BOOM!
The battle erupted.
———
"What's going on, Emiya-senpai?"
Sensing the massive surge of magical energy, Mash rushed toward the rooftop, colliding with Shirou as he was coming down.
"Berserker's charging in. Right now Caster's blocking him with magecraft. We'll talk more once we're downstairs."
Shirou realized this might be the perfect chance to train them.
"Hey, wait for me!", Olga Marie hurried down after them.
———
At the schoolyard, Shirou asked, "Mash, do you want to fight?"
"Not have to. I want to."
He knew Mash hated fighting, and was forcing herself right now.
But Shirou had to make her fight.
"I…", Mash looked at Fujimaru Ritsuka. Without a moment's hesitation, she nodded firmly, "I want to. I have to protect Senpai!"
"Good."
Shirou said, "Then our lives are in your hands!"
"Having Mash face a Servant like that right away, aren't you pushing it too far?", Olga Marie worried Mash wouldn't be able to bear it.
The legendary demigod, one strike from him might bring the heavens crashing down.
"This is war," Shirou's voice was slightly cold, "Right now, not fighting? Fine. I can help you, protect you. But later? What then? Is your journey just going to end here?"
"No way!", Olga Marie shot back, "Ending here is absolutely impossible."
She grit her teeth, "Fine then, Mash, don't you dare die!"
"I won't."
Mash stepped forward, shield in hand.
"Senpai, could you please go inside the classroom building? It'll be dangerous here in a moment."
"Mash…", Fujimaru Ritsuka clenched her hands, "I'm counting on you!"
"You too, get inside," Shirou pointed at Olga Marie.
Though unwilling, she knew this wasn't a situation she could control.
So she pulled Fujimaru Ritsuka away from there.
'To take a hit like that and not die… as expected of the strongest hero of Greek myth,' Olga Marie thought heavily.
"Mash, I can feel your resolve. But don't overdo it," While watching how long Dog Bro could keep dragging things out, Shirou added, "If you can't hold, fall back. Let me take over."
"No, how could I let Emiya-senpai stand in front of me? Situations like this should be entrusted to me, the Servant."
"Relax, Mash, I'm not as weak as you think."
"Those words go right back at you, Senpai. Don't underestimate me too much!"
Mash took a deep breath, exerting herself, showing her unwillingness to give in.
Shirou smiled faintly.
'Maybe I am overthinking.'
'Fujimaru Ritsuka and Mash are both growing fast.'
'Then, time to see Dog Bro put on a show.'
———
"What kind of monster are you?"
Several blasts of light and fireballs hadn't even scratched Heracles's skin.
Dog Bro weaved through the tightly packed floors of the buildings, grumbling.
Uncle B(Berserker) chased close behind.
A wild roar, and with the nameless axe-sword in hand, he smashed wall after wall.
Dog Bro hurled another seven or eight fireballs ahead, collapsing the building onto Heracles.
Amidst the violent tremor, Uncle B charged out less than a second later, unscathed.
"Attacks below B-rank are completely useless, huh?", Pulling some distance, he stopped on a rooftop about four or five stories high.
Dog Bro set his staff down, "If that's how it is, then try this!"
BANG!
A crisp impact.
The runes transformed into a defense that momentarily slowed Uncle B's charge.
"Take this!"
Dog Bro roared, "Burning Cage of Flames!"
Fire flared up out of nowhere.
At Uncle B's feet, a massive circle formed, enclosing him tightly.
Then the staff swung, sharp sounds echoing.
The ground quaked.
From countless vines rose a giant hand, clutching Uncle B's body.
"ROAR!"
His crimson body glowed, magical energy spilling from him.
His violent struggle even made the giant hand begin to break apart.
Truly worthy of the title "Mighty Heracles."
"Damn it, what kind of monstrous strength is this?"
Dog Bro poured in more power.
The burning giant hand rose into the sky, searing Uncle B while forcing him down into the ground.
The impact shook everything.
A crater three to four meters wide appeared.
Through the smoke and dust, Uncle B's battered figure flickered into view.
"Is it over?", Dog Bro raised his staff, watching.
"ROAR!"
The wounds healed. Rather than healing, it was more like time itself rewound.
Dog Bro recognized it instantly. Observing, he stated flatly, "Immortality, huh?"
"So that's it. The legend of undying granted by completing the Twelve Labors. A Noble Phantasm wrought into the flesh. Meaning, unless I kill you twelve times, you'll never fall, strongest hero of Greek myth!"
"Unbelievable," he sighed, "To meet such an incredible warrior, and I didn't even get summoned as Lancer… what a loss."
But while saying it was a loss, Dog Bro was already enchanting his staff with flame.
"Dragging it out with this thing clearly doesn't suit me. Better to fight close-up!", With that, he charged.
"ROAR!"
Uncle B bellowed, clashing with Dog Bro.
Whoosh!
The very first strike forced Cu Chulainn back, blood streaking his face.
"You've got to be kidding me. I dodged that one!"
No time to rest. The mountainous figure was already upon him.
Luckily, he hadn't brought a spear, his stats weren't too high, but his martial skill was intact.
And besides, he specialized in defense.
With a series of precise evasions, Dog Bro caught the opening when Heracles's nameless axe-sword slammed into the ground. Stepped on it, and pressed forward, "I'll take this life from you, Heracles!"
Flames carved a dazzling arc through the air.
But Uncle B responded with something unexpected, or perhaps expected, given it was Berserker.
An extremely high-level technique.
He let go of the axe-sword he couldn't lift, ignoring the flames engulfing the staff.
His fists and feet erupted at full power.
Fiercely assaulting Dog Bro.
Forced, Dog Bro had no choice but to retreat.
"Even stripped of reason, your skills from life are engraved into your body?"
"Truly the strongest hero!"
Cu Chulainn praised, then his face grew tense, "His resistance to flame suddenly shot up?"
"Could it be…", His hunter's gaze sharpened to terrifying intensity.
"This is basically a cheat! Killing him once grants him a huge resistance to that type of attack?"
"What a pain. By the looks of it, Master, might be a hard counter for me," But Cu Chulainn wasn't about to stop.
After all, meeting such a powerful foe, how could he not fight to his heart's content?
'If only I had a spear…'
"Caster! Want a spear?"
"A spear?"
A crimson meteor fell, landing perfectly in Cu Chulainn's hands.
No need to look. The familiar grip already made him laugh to the sky, "Haha! I half-expected it, but this is still one hell of a surprise, Master."
Cu Chulainn twirled the cursed spear.
"Taking another one of his lives won't be a problem, right?", Shirou asked.
"Wouldn't miss it for the world."
The spearhead pierced the air.
Facing Uncle B's mindless roar and charge, Dog Bro burned with fighting spirit, "Come! Let's begin Round Two!"
