Exploring Technology in a Wizard World

Chapter 849: Companionship

Half a month later, in the evening.

Outside Shambala Town, near the location of the original No. 13 Mine.

A camp had just been put to use not long ago. Inside one of its spacious rooms, Witch Demon Elder Ah Fu was sitting in his seat, savoring a cup of tea.

The tea was sweet tea, with an overall murky yellow color. The bottom was sedimented with quite a bit of gray-brown powder, which were undissolved sugar cubes. Besides that, the tea had an excessive amount of honey added, making it sweet enough to nauseate a bunch of people.

But Witch Demon Elder Ah Fu didn't feel uncomfortable at all. Instead, he took a deep sip, smacked his lips, and showed an immensely satisfied expression.

He had really been asleep for too long, and combined with his new body being that of an aging man, his reactions to many stimuli were exceedingly dull. Only stimuli three times as strong could let him enjoy a normal delightful sweet taste.

Fortunately, he now had Richard, such a wealthy sponsor, so he didn't mind adding more sugar cubes and honey to his tea.

Witch Demon Elder Ah Fu thought about these matters and began planning that after a few more days of drinking this sweet tea, he could try some salty tea—with a large amount of the more expensive pepper powder and cinnamon powder added, surely a unique taste.

He took another sip of tea, stroked the smooth and white teacup, feeling a texture akin to a girl's skin, and exhaled a long breath, quite content with his current life.

Of course, if there were a little more... something, it would be even better.

Taking another sip of tea, Witch Demon Elder Ah Fu's eyes darted as he stepped out of the room.

Outside, it could be seen that the camp he was in was located on a small hill, where many miners, leaving work, could be seen walking together in groups of two or three.

Some miners were heading towards the current camp, some towards other farther camps, and others towards Shambala Town—because the camps established near the mines in such a short time couldn't possibly accommodate all the hired miners. Therefore, more than half of the miners still stayed in Shambala Town, waiting for months before this situation could completely change.

Witch Demon Elder didn't really care about this, only extending his hand to welcome the night breeze.

He closed his eyes, feeling the breeze flow through his palm, sensing the air brushing past his fingers, and letting out a sigh.

"Hmm, really need a little something," Witch Demon Elder Ah Fu's thought became more intense, "only with a little something can it be considered true enjoyment."

Then...

Turning his head, Witch Demon Elder looked to the side and saw two people walking into his camp.

This camp, because of its high-end setup, usually housed only the core members of the mine, with a rank of at least a Small Team Leader. The two people approaching were a tall and strong one, and a short and slim one, precisely Didak and Bo Fei.

Witch Demon Elder looked at the two, waved them over, and unceremoniously said, "Hey, you two, yes, you, come over."

Didak and Bo Fei, who were originally chatting, turned their heads upon hearing Witch Demon Elder's call, and slightly tensed up.

To them, Witch Demon Elder Ah Fu was a very special and mysterious being.

He had arrived at the mine half a month ago and essentially did nothing, but had an extremely high status. Even Mine Owner Hua'er couldn't command him, instead making efforts to meet all his demands—no matter how bizarre.

There were rumors that he resembled a beggar named Ford, who had died in the mine, but Didak scoffed at this.

A beggar?

How is it possible?

Just look at his aura, and you'll understand that the rumor is utterly unreliable. His clothes, ornaments, daily meals, and tea were all things a beggar could never afford.

Didak felt that he might be some elder relative of Mine Owner Hua'er. Hence, he could do nothing and still be catered to by Hua'er.

Accordingly, if he or any other workers received a request from him, they had to cater to him and try to meet it.

Hearing Witch Demon Elder's call, Didak promptly stopped their conversation and, along with Bo Fei, quickly approached Witch Demon Elder, asking cautiously, "Sir, do you have any instructions?"

"Indeed, I have instructions," Witch Demon Elder said, "Think of a way, the two of you, to see if you can help me get it done. If not, then tell your Mine Owner Hua'er to get it done for me."

"Uh, may I ask what that is?" Didak raised his head and asked.

"This..." Witch Demon Elder hesitated, thought for a moment, looked at Didak and Bo Fei, and said gloomily, "You should be able to tell that I'm not young anymore.

"Yes," Didak nodded.

"Right," Bo Fei agreed, although he didn't understand Witch Demon Elder's meaning.

Witch Demon Elder said, "People, you know, once they get older, they tend to feel... well, lonely, and wish for some... well, companionship."

"Ah..." Didak opened his mouth, a bit stunned, his mind working hard to figure out what Witch Demon Elder wanted. Recently, he had been preoccupied with explosives blasting and mining, so his brain was struggling to process this.

Witch Demon Elder ignored this, looking at Didak, and continued, "I'm not very picky, but I do have a few small requirements for companionship. The first is that the hair must be golden, without any mixed colors. Secondly, it must be young, full of vitality, and gentle. Understand?"

"Ah... this..." Didak was still having difficulty processing.

Bo Fei, however, tugged at Didak's clothing and helped answer, "We understand, sir, we understand."

Witch Demon Elder smiled and encouraged them, saying, "Glad you understand, hurry and arrange it for me. I'll be waiting here for you, don't make me wait too long."

"Yes, sir." Bo Fei nodded repeatedly, pulling Didak away.

Once outside the camp, Didak frowned and looked at Bo Fei, asking, "Bo Fei, do you really understand what that elder wants? I still don't get it."

"Brother Didak, how can you be so clueless!" Bo Fei exhaled, rolling his eyes, "It's pretty obvious, isn't it?"

"What?"

"Of course it's..." Bo Fei didn't finish but gave a "you know" look, pressing his hands on his chest.

Didak's eyes widened: "You mean... a woman?"

"What else?" Bo Fei shrugged.

"No, no." Didak shook his head repeatedly, looking at Bo Fei seriously, "You're guessing wrong, it's definitely not a woman. Just think about it, that elder is so old, why would he still want a woman? It must be something else."

"This..." Seeing Didak's resolute expression, Bo Fei couldn't help but waver, "Are you sure, Brother Didak? Then what do you think he wants?"

"This... I don't know either, but it definitely isn't a woman... could be..." Didak was halfway through speaking when he stopped abruptly, for he heard the barking beside him.

"Woof woof woof!"

"Hmm!" Didak and Bo Fei were taken aback, simultaneously turning to look at a patch of withered grass nearby. Then they saw a big dog emerge, all golden, without a single stray hair.

"This..." Didak and Bo Fei quickly exchanged a glance.
