Chapter 75: Nano Stitch
Carina entered her blue sports car, and as she sat in the driver's seat, her eyes followed Kael, who was now walking across the street.
A smirk formed on her face—her plan was working.
The reason she invited Kael to a fight was simple: she wanted to recruit him. Win or lose, she would still come out on top.
Carina wanted a perfect team, and she felt Kael was talented enough to be part of it. But when she thought about her current team, her expression darkened. Dave and Lance—those two troublemakers—were the only ones holding the team back. And as a leader, she wanted the best.
So, she made a decision: once she found suitable Primers, she would replace those two burdens. It wasn't that Dave and Lance were weak—but in her eyes, their talent and potential weren't enough to elevate the team to the next level. To surpass the other Primer groups under the New One, she needed more.
Due to the company's size, fierce competition existed among Primer teams. They fought for resources, and the better their performance, the more support they received from New One.
Currently, Carina's team was still new. The resources they had were only the basics. To rise, they had to perform exceptionally—but with Dave and Lance dragging them down and even misusing resources for their own whims, Carina had no choice. She had to act. Replacing them was her answer.
When she saw how Kael fought—and more importantly, how he thought through problems even when at a disadvantage—Carina was impressed. She instantly wanted him on her team.
And thinking back to the fight, her expression hardened.
"He defeated me," Carina muttered, disbelief laced in her voice. She had thrown that punch half-expecting him to back down. She certainly hadn't expected to lose. What shocked her even more was how the battle ended.
She wasn't lying when she said she held back to match Kael's supposed strength. She assumed he had average stats but excellent martial arts. But clearly, she was wrong. From what happened, Kael had become faster—much faster.
She didn't even catch a glimpse of his movements. He was like a ghost, appearing out of nowhere. There was only one explanation: Kael had leveled up and used his Status Points to boost his stats.
"This is good," Carina whispered. Though her heart felt heavy with defeat, when she looked at the bigger picture, it actually felt like a win.
Whether she lost or not, she would still emerge victorious.
As that thought settled, a smile crept back onto her face—only to freeze when she saw the man she had been watching turn back and mouth something.
"I… know… what… you… did…" Carina repeated what Kael had mouthed. Her eyes widened. "He knew my plan? How?"
She blinked—and when she opened her eyes, Kael was already gone, likely turned the corner.
"He's… interesting," Carina muttered with a sigh before letting out a soft chuckle.
…
Kael was now seated on public transportation, heading back to Milan's house. Sitting by the window, he stared out at the passing buildings.
He recalled what had just happened and couldn't help but smile faintly.
Kael had seen through Carina's real intentions—it was easy, especially when someone wasn't a good liar. Carina was the type whose every expression and gesture gave her away.
And her offer? It couldn't have come at a better time. Just like she had thought, Kael also knew that win or lose, he'd still end up closer to the New One company.
Even more, when he thought about Carina—her looks, her confidence—the offer became all the more appealing.
Not only would Kael get closer to New One… He'd also get closer to Carina.
I wonder what she tastes like, Kael thought, his eyes shining with expectation and anticipation for the future with her. That moment with Anna, the receptionist, wasn't enough. He wanted more—and Kael wasn't about to refuse a blue-haired woman offering herself.
As his thoughts wandered, the vehicle he was riding in began to move. Unlike ordinary cars, this bus-like transport used anti-gravity to travel, though it still had to follow a designated path reserved for such vehicles.
Kael sat quietly for at least thirty minutes before his stop finally arrived.
He stepped out and began walking toward the district where Milan's house was located.
After a five-minute walk, Milan and Bach's house came into view. But the moment his eyes landed on it, Kael's expression darkened. He hurried toward the house, where smoke was rising from the windows and door. A small fire still burned on the roof, though it looked like it was about to go out.
The house had clearly been engulfed in flames. Once clean and modern, it now looked dilapidated and charred.
Drones equipped with water tanks flew around the building, dousing it and sending thick vapor into the sky.
A crowd had gathered—curious onlookers watching the scene—while a red-and-white emergency vehicle was parked nearby. A few of its crew members were also helping to put out the remaining flames.
Kael pushed through the crowd and stopped in front of the house. His face grew even darker as he took in the damage.
Scanning the area, he spotted Milan and her daughter being tended to by a medic. As he approached them, his eyes were immediately drawn to the wound on the baby's neck—currently being treated by the medical personnel.
"Fortunately, it's just a shallow cut," the medic said. "With our Nano Stitch, it'll close instantly." He held up an L-shaped device filled with swirling silver-white particles. But he hadn't used it yet—he needed the parents' permission. Turning to Milan, he continued, "Ma'am, would you like to use this device or allow the wound to heal naturally? I should remind you, a natural healing process will leave a scar."
"I…" Milan hesitated—until she noticed the man who had walked up beside her. Her eyes widened. "Kael… you're here."
"What happened?" Kael asked, his voice low and cold.
"That bastard came back… he…" Her fists clenched, and tears welled in her eyes at the memory.
"Ma'am, your decision?" the medic pressed before she could continue.
"We'll talk about it later," Milan said to Kael, prioritizing her daughter's treatment.
"You can't decide?" Kael asked.
"Yes," Milan replied through gritted teeth before turning to him. "What do you think? The Nano Stitch will close the wound without leaving a scar—but it means she'll have nanobots inside her for the rest of her life."
"Nanobots, huh?" Kael nodded, finally understanding why Milan was hesitant.
So even after a hundred years, people are still wary of having nanobots in their bodies, Kael thought. Understandable. The war with the Anthi-Orgs was nothing short of a nightmare for civilians.
The entire universe had been at stake, and there was nothing the innocent could do—especially when the enemy was as brutal as the Anthi-Orgs.
They had committed countless unforgivable and ruthless acts in their pursuit of victory. As one of the Exo-Primevals who had fought those despicable monsters face-to-face, Kael had seen their cruelty firsthand.
The Exo-Primevals had to destroy dozens of planets controlled by the Anthi-Orgs, as those planets used civilians implanted with nanobots to fight against the Aegis Primes.
These worlds relied on nanobots as part of daily life—especially in the medical field. From a young age, children were treated with nanobots to heal wounds. Some planets even used them as vaccines to fight against various viruses and diseases.
It was a piece of technology both convenient and powerful.
However, the Anthi-Orgs crafted a device that allowed them to command the nanobots inside people. The nanobots latched onto their brains, turning them into nothing more than puppets.
The device was so powerful that people instantly became slaves. The Anthi-Orgs used half of them as soldiers, while the other half were forced into labor on their homeworlds.
This action enraged all the species across the universe, escalating the war. The Exo-Primevals were furious as well—especially the Red Prime, who stormed the Anthi-Orgs' battleship where the control device was being kept.
The Red Prime succeeded in destroying the device. But even after its destruction, the people who had been brainwashed remained under its influence. In the end, the Exo-Primevals had no choice but to destroy those dozens of planets, as the civilians had become permanent puppets of the Anthi-Orgs.
It was a decision that split Kael's team in half—one side wanting to end their suffering through destruction, the other hoping to find a way to save them.
The White Prime and Blue Prime supported destruction. The Red and Yellow Primes wanted to help. That left the final decision to the Pink Prime—who sided with White and Blue.
Though they disagreed, Red and Yellow had no choice but to comply. The majority had spoken: the nanobot-infected civilians would be eradicated.
Because of this, public opinion was also divided—and even after a hundred years, people still argue over whether it was the right decision.
"Ma'am, you don't have to worry that your daughter will become a puppet in the future," the medic said, holding the Nano Stitch with confidence. "The Primevals destroyed the original control device. And even if a new one is created, the nanobots entering your daughter will go inactive once their purpose is fulfilled."
"Inactive?" Kael frowned, then shook his head. "Don't use it. Let the wound heal naturally."
Milan looked at her sleeping daughter, then nodded.
"I'll follow his words," she said quietly.
The cut on her daughter's neck had already been treated—the medic was only offering the nanobots to hasten the healing.
"Alright then," the medic said with a nod, and left.
"She's alright," Kael said, gently brushing the baby's cheek. After a moment of silence, his expression hardened. "Now… tell me what happened."
