Chapter 57: dealt with the devil
Ben stared intently at the man and threw the guy he had been holding by the leg at his feet.
"What are you looking at, kid?" the gang leader asked, not seeming intimidated by Ben's display.
"A dead man," Ben replied stoically.
Veins bulged in the gang leader's fists. The cigarette in his mouth split in two as he clenched his teeth in anger.
He knew Ben was strong, but he couldn't appear weak in front of his men over some kid.
Leaning down, he got close to Ben's face and asked, "Are you looking to die?"
Ben responded with an uppercut that sent the gang leader's head snapping backward.
Enzo hadn't expected the punch, but he wasn't going to stay still either. In his awkward position, he threw a punch at Ben, but Ben blocked it with ease.
Ben kicked him, sending him flying and crashing into his own motorcycles.
"Boss!"
"Attack him!"
Ben ignored the lackeys and continued toward the leader.
Several gang members got in his way, but Ben sent them flying with a single punch.
[Fire Arrow]
A fire arrow shot out from where the gang leader was supposed to be.
Ben could easily see the attack and could have dodged it, but he didn't.
If he did, he risked one of the fraternity guys getting hurt.
He crossed his arms in front of him and took the attack head-on.
Boommm!!
The arrow exploded on impact, sending Ben flying through the air and crashing into the fraternity's bus.
"Ben!!"
Ben heard Dante's panicked shout and the frightened screams of the girls.
Some of the fire from the spell landed on one of the bus's tires.
Ben's body was embedded in the metal of the bus, but he got up as if nothing had happened.
His arms were badly burned, but the injuries were less severe than everyone thought.
To the disbelief of everyone present, his arms healed at a visible speed until there wasn't a single burn left.
"How is this possible?"
Ben touched his arms and nodded.
"So you want to use magic?" Ben's eyes began to turn blue, with a small spark inside.
All the stars in his consciousness glowed, channeling magic into a single element.
Everyone felt a chill as their bodies began to tingle with static energy. Ben's eyes turned completely blue, and bolts of blue energy began to emanate from his body.
His hair stood on end against gravity, and everyone could see a horrible scar running across his forehead from one side to the other.
In a flash of light, Ben disappeared from everyone's sight and reappeared next to Enzo, who had managed to get up.
A punch charged with electricity from Ben sent him flying again.
Ben didn't pursue him immediately. He looked at the gang members' motorcycles and picked one up with his hands.
The sight of Ben lifting a motorcycle with relative ease was strange to see.
To everyone's astonishment, Ben used the motorcycle like a club, sending any gang members who got in his way flying.
Enzo got the worst of it. Even after he was knocked unconscious on the ground, Ben kept slamming the motorcycle into him over and over.
Maybe because he noticed everyone was silent or because his anger had been partially vented, Ben stopped hitting and dropped the motorcycle to the side.
He looked at the fraternity guys, but none of them met his gaze. They all lowered their heads.
Dante looked at him in shock.
Some of the girls even openly showed fear toward him.
Ben felt his heart sink. He didn't even have the courage to look at Judy, afraid of how she might react to his actions.
For the first time, the evil points he earned didn't make him happier.
Ben walked over to the gang members, who were clearly very intimidated by him.
He didn't care and went to the gang member who still had the girl on his shoulders.
The man was trembling and couldn't move.
But all Ben did was take the girl and the fraternity guy lying on the ground.
Ben approached the woman and handed her the girl. He did the same with the fraternity guy, who still couldn't look him in the eye.
The gang members took this as a sign. They grabbed their men and fled into the distance.
"This isn't over," Fan Mo approached Ben. "You helped the woman and the girl today. But who will help them tomorrow?"
Ben knew he was right. That's why, the moment he thought about intervening, he had wanted to kill them all.
But he realized he was starting to care about what the fraternity guys thought of him.
And Judy... He didn't want her to see him as a monster.
Even though he hadn't killed anyone, many looked at him with fear, and their attitude toward him changed.
The guys had to take the injured boy to the hospital and fix the bus's tire.
Ben offered to help, but they all refused and asked him to rest.
Ben began to feel a bit excluded, and while he could understand why, that didn't make it any easier to deal with.
He walked alone down the still-dark road and came to what looked like a bench.
He sat down with a sigh and stared at the sky, trying to calm down and stop being so sentimental.
It worked!
It only took a few seconds for Ben to feel at peace with himself again.
His ears twitched, and Ben turned to look behind him.
A man was approaching him with a large briefcase on his back and a cautious posture.
He seemed surprised to have been discovered so quickly.
Abandoning stealth, the man approached Ben without hiding his presence.
He was a middle-aged man with a very large belly. His head seemed to be losing hair, but there was still some around the edges.
He looked miserable, with dirty clothes and a clear smell of alcohol on him.
"Are you another one of those gang members?" Ben asked, a bit exasperated.
The man seemed offended and furious at the idea.
"I'd rather suffer a thousand torments in hell than be part of that trash," the man clenched his teeth and fists.
Ben raised an eyebrow.
"Then who are you?"
The man didn't answer and stood in front of Ben.
"I saw you earlier, how easily you defeated those gang members," the man kept clenching and unclenching his fists.
His face twisted in many ways—struggle, humiliation, envy, and desire.
Ben's eyes widened when the man suddenly knelt.
"Please, lend me your power!!"
Ben frowned, not understanding the situation.
The man took Ben's silence as a refusal. He took the bag from his back and opened it.
From the bag, he pulled out stacks of bills and placed them on the ground in front of Ben.
"Please, I beg you!!" With the money at Ben's feet, the man looked up at him. "I can pay you 100,000 argens."
"What do you want me to do?" Ben looked at the money, feeling very tempted.
The man raised his head with a look of intense hatred and madness.
"I want you to kill them!! Kill them all in the most cruel and painful way possible!!"
Ben didn't seem particularly affected by the man's request, which raised the man's hopes.
"Why?" Ben wanted to know the reason. He didn't want to act as some rich man's hitman or his personal attack dog.
The man seemed to recall something very painful as tears began to fall from his eyes.
"Those sons of bitches charge protection fees to every business in the city," the man clenched his teeth. "The police do nothing because they're paid off by them."
"Everyone in the city fears them, and you could even say they have more authority than the police themselves," the man began to sob. "Two months ago, I couldn't pay my protection fee, and those bastards took my little girl."
The man couldn't take it anymore and began to cry heavily.
"My little girl was only 9 years old, and those monsters made her prostitute herself for the amusement of the rich!!" The man clawed at the ground in anger. "My wife couldn't bear the guilt and killed herself."
"Now I'm just a miserable man who doesn't have the power or resources to seek revenge. No one with the strength to destroy them will move for so little money, or they're already on their payroll," the man began to pound the ground. "Even after I sold my business and house, I couldn't get anyone to act. I'm useless!!"
The man crawled on the ground with tears streaming down his face and began to kiss Ben's shoes.
"Please!! I beg you!! End their lives!!"
"Hehehehe," Ben began to laugh, which made the man look up in surprise.
Ben's face couldn't have had a bigger smile.
A smile of pure excitement spread across his face, making him look like a demon.
A cruel, predatory gleam appeared in his eyes.
He slowly approached the man.
"Are you sure about this?" The air seemed to grow heavier as Ben asked. "You're about to unleash a demon on your enemies!"
Madness shone in the man's eyes.
"Even if I have to resort to horrors... I'll do it!!!"
Ben extended a hand, and the man took it.
A simple action that decided the fate of millions of lives and the destiny of the world.
