Chapter 101: chaos VIII
But every time he managed to close his eyes and rest a bit, a tremor shook the building, or even the air vibrated.
Since he couldn't sleep, he got up from the ground and began exploring the place he had landed in.
The place he fell into was an office.
The place didn't have much besides computers and office supplies.
But in one area, there seemed to be a spot for snacks. Ben searched excitedly and found a ham sandwich that apparently belonged to a girl named Lucy.
"Sorry, Lucy." Ben heated the sandwich in the oven while humming. "But it's all for a good cause."
Ben took a big bite of the sandwich and then a long gulp of ice-cold Frehss. The delicious flavor and the burn of the carbonation in his throat made Ben feel revitalized and eager to push harder.
He looked at the chaotic office, papers scattered everywhere. The people in the office must have fled in a hurry when they heard the explosions.
Who knows what's become of them now.
Ben stared out the window with empty eyes. In the distance, he could clearly see the clash of great powers.
Huge tides of water, rains of fire, occasional tremors, and even buildings flying.
Most likely, a battle between advanced mages was happening there. Ben was proud but not foolish; he didn't want to go near that.
Besides being cautious, he also didn't want to get involved with those people unless absolutely necessary.
Taking a deep breath, he gathered momentum, closed his eyes, and leaped out the window into the void.
The wind hit Ben's face hard, making it distort in a very funny way.
His hair was completely disheveled, and his limbs were spread out.
When his body was a few meters from crashing into the hard concrete ground, he activated his magic.
[Shadow Leap]
Instead of smashing into the ground with a horrific sound, Ben sank into his shadow as if it were tar and reappeared several meters away from the shadow of a tree.
"If I'd had magic during the building's collapse, I wouldn't have worried so much." Ben dusted off his pants and shirt before walking calmly through the deserted streets.
An alarm blared through the streets, accompanied by a message of immediate evacuation.
He walked for a good few minutes without encountering anyone and quickly grew bored. He searched among the cars along the way, checking if some careless person had left their keys in the ignition when they fled.
And so it was!
In a pickup truck, the keys remained stuck in the ignition switch.
Ben only had to break the truck's window to get in and start driving it.
Since this could be considered theft, his evil points rose again, making him realize he actually had a large number of accumulated points.
Although forming stars was a bottomless pit, there were other things he could spend his points on.
Like skills, gifts, spells.
[13,619,400 evil points]
Ben set about searching for a powerful gift to fill his third slot; he couldn't settle for just any gift.
Until he found it, the perfect gift that would help him break through the small bottleneck he was in.
[Star Slayer]
The gift allowed him to recover magic at an incredible speed by killing people. Moreover, if his mana was full, this gift let him use incoming magic to form new stars with that magic.
A highly versatile, powerful gift, and above all… perfect for Ben.
But it cost a hefty 11,000,000 evil points.
Though very expensive, Ben bought it happily. He didn't want to run out of magic in a situation like that again.
As he drove, he began to hear the sounds of gunshots in the distance.
He frowned and took a detour, only to hear the sounds of gunshots again in the distance.
"To hell with it!!" Ben simply stopped giving a damn and began driving at high speed.
The closer he drove, the louder the gunshots sounded. Soon, he could make out what seemed to be a confrontation between the police and a large number of armed men.
Without caring about anything, he kept accelerating and accelerating. When both sides saw him approaching, they were shocked to see he wasn't slowing down and was, in fact, speeding up.
Before either force could react, Ben arrived and slammed his truck into everything standing between him and his escape.
Two police cars were forcefully pushed aside, and he even ran over some police officers and armed men alike.
Not satisfied, he opened one of the truck's doors and, with one hand, unleashed a powerful lightning bolt that sent several men flying.
"Get out of the way!!" he roared with fury as he accelerated and left the chaos behind.
The police and the criminals couldn't understand what had happened, even after several minutes. They stood staring at the truck slowly disappearing into the distance.
Ben didn't care what they thought; he just wanted to get home and see how the kids were. Though he had to take a big detour to avoid the major battles.
As time passed, Ben began to notice people starting to appear.
The streets no longer seemed deserted, but the looks these people gave him were truly chilling.
Some looked at him and even smiled and waved. That wouldn't be terrifying at any other time, but in the middle of a terrorist attack and the city's destruction, for someone to look at you, smile, and wave casually was very strange.
He tried not to pay attention to it, but a chill ran down his spine, reminding him of a situation he'd experienced before.
Pressing the accelerator, he tried to ignore these strange people. But something odd began to happen: the people who had so far only smiled and waved started throwing themselves at his truck, heedless of their own lives and safety.
They hurled themselves one after another without pause, like a furious mob of suicides.
"What the hell is wrong with them? Get out of the way!!" he shouted, but he didn't slow down either, his instincts screaming not to stop for anything in the world.
More and more people began emerging from the buildings and throwing themselves from the heights. Even with broken bones and limbs, they started crawling toward Ben, like mindless zombies.
"What the hell is wrong with these people?" Ben floored the accelerator, but slowly the bodies piled up around him, preventing the truck from moving forward.
A little girl, about four years old, smashed her head against the windshield with madness.
"Hello, Ben!" the girl screamed, her eyes red, her teeth and forehead covered in blood.
Ben's eyes widened, and the little girl let out a sadistic, gleeful smile upon seeing his reaction.
"I told you, didn't I?!" The girl began laughing hysterically, and Ben immediately recognized her peculiar laugh. "I told you we'd meet again, jie jie jie jie."
Ben threw a powerful punch at the girl's face, shattering the glass and sending her bloodied face flying.
Since he already knew what he was up against, Ben kicked open the door and began throwing punches and kicks at everyone who approached.
He showed no mercy, knowing the kind of monster he was facing. He used a shadow leap and ran like mad, leaving the horde of crazed people behind him.
He hid out of sight from anyone. He didn't know which of them might be controlled by that thing.
He began to sweat coldly as he realized the danger that thing posed, not just to the people and the city. If that thing could control so many hosts at once, it could be a threat capable of worldwide destruction.
Now he couldn't let himself be seen or help the people he encountered along the way, as they could be puppets of that thing.
Thinking about it, he couldn't help but think of Judy, Shen Huiliang, and the other kids from the fraternity.
Ben threw himself to the ground, unable to believe how all this had happened so suddenly. One moment he was on a date with Judy, his friends were fine, and the city was calm.
The next moment, everything was chaos, and people were being controlled by a monster he thought he'd left behind.
Ben didn't even have time to process everything that had happened when the ground began to tremble, and the temperature started to rise.
The cars began to shake and slowly lift off the ground.
"Shit!!" Ben cursed under his breath as he looked up and saw Alexander Crapp floating in the air.

Okay, the previous chapter is now fixed. I'm sorry I wasted a whole day trying to fix it because I was robbed and in the middle of the ocean. I had no signal or Wi-Fi.
I failed again in my goal of uploading a chapter every day but oh well... I just have to keep going.
