Chapter 1352: The Turned Tables Once Again
Under the deep night, the battlefield was shaken by thunderous battle cries and explosions, with the flash of magical radiance intertwined with the sharp glint of cold light from blades.
Longswords and giant axes clashed fiercely, while warhammers roared as they smashed into shields. The flames of war reflected splashes of blood and the ferocious faces of the fighters.
On the other side of the Giant Valley, at the Waterfall Watcher Fortress, Leo Ray gazed into the distance, watching every move on the battlefield two kilometers away with intense focus.
At the moment the Dragonborn Grand Army clashed with the forces of the trolls and minotaurs, it wasn't surprising that both Absolute Defense Barriers shattered simultaneously.
That's because different Absolute Defense Barriers often have strong magical repulsions against each other. Furthermore, the more extensive the Absolute Defense Barrier, the more unstable it is, especially when deployed within an army formation as opposed to being stationary over a fortress. This instability makes such occurrences less surprising.
As for the trolls and minotaurs encircling the mountain who anticipated the Dragonborn Army's breakout direction, while unexpected, it seemed to encode a crucial piece of information.
That information suggested that the trolls and minotaurs guessed the Dragonborn would break out from the side near Giant Valley, possibly because of a necessary link to a crucial point.
In other words, the position near Giant Valley was the closest to the key location, and breaking through in that direction was the Dragonborn's best chance to reach it.
Thinking this through, Leo Ray's gaze grew deeper as he began to scan the surroundings of the battlefield.
Presently, the fierce battle between both sides was dangerously close to the edge of Giant Valley, directly opposite our fortress.
Since the Dragonborn chose to break through here and the trolls and minotaurs had preemptively set up at this location, it undoubtedly meant the key location must be in one direction, towards our fortress.
Whether the key location was deep within the Giant Valley facing us or near our fortress, or even behind it, was still unknown at this point.
But one thing is certain: we are almost guaranteed to be drawn into the opposing war vortex.
Having arrived at this conclusion in his mind, Leo Ray did not hesitate to share his view with everyone.
After listening to Leo Ray's analysis, Shuert's reaction was relatively calm, showing he had thought of this point as well, while Crisis and Broy clearly grew more nervous.
The Gleaming Rift is the dividing line between our Three Great Powers and the opponent's Four Great Powers, a boundary recognized by both sides since the Blank Era, which neither side surpasses lightly.
If that key location was deep within the Giant Valley, it wouldn't touch our territory; but if it were on our side, it would mean the enemy is acting with impunity on our land, something we absolutely cannot permit.
Not to mention, as long as that key location is within our territory, the opposition has no right to encroach upon it whimsically, especially since we have just dispelled the shadow cast by the Giant Dragon. How could we allow that shadow to return?
"It seems the situation is indeed pessimistic, and our initial fears were justified. The enemy may truly cross the Giant Valley to bring the blazing fires of war to us," Broy took a deep breath, frowning.
"But if that key location is on our territory, why have all four opposing factions chosen to ignore us? At the very least, they should have informed us," Crisis questioned, her brow furrowed and fists clenched.
"It's not difficult to understand. Over hundreds of years with the dragons entrenched here, our continual defeats have made us the laughingstock of nearby powers. The opposition knows that, with our inability to even participate in the Shadow Market, our strength has greatly diminished. The strong rarely reason with the weak," Shuert shook his head helplessly. "The enemy might not even be aware that we've already won the battle at the Dragon Nest, ousting the dragons that haunted us."
"Exactly, under the dragons' oppression, we didn't even have the courage to leave our city, let alone defend the borders," Broy sighed, adding, "Given this reflection, the current situation isn't surprising."
"Too bad they miscalculated this time. Our territory is not somewhere they can come and go as they please," Crisis scoffed, hands on hips. "If they recklessly cross the line, they'll pay the price for their contempt and arrogance!"
"Indeed, we are no longer what we once were," Broy's voice was firm, his crown gleaming above his head.
Upon hearing this, Shuert nodded in agreement, his carved-like old face filled with earnestness.
As everyone readied themselves, their gaze collectively fell on Leo Ray.
They all knew clearly, despite their confident words, Leo Ray was their greatest assurance. More precisely, only under Leo Ray's leadership would they find the courage to protect their home.
Unwittingly, despite never claiming the role of leader in the alliance, Leo Ray had undoubtedly become the heart of the group.
"Don't worry, everyone. I've said it many times before: the Human Clan will forever stand with you through thick and thin,"
With a calm smile, Leo Ray continued earnestly, "Even though we have just emerged from a major battle and have not yet fully recovered, as long as we stand shoulder to shoulder, we will unleash unimaginable power."
