Chapter 61: Crazy Women (2) [Bonus]
"I am sorry I won't tease you guys like that."
'Never again!'
Liora accepted his apology and said something that was bothering her.
"Ahem! Arthur, when are you going to hold Zyra like that?"
She did have the wild imagination that he was going to kiss Zyra, but it didn't seem like that, so she had to point this out. Also, she had some things to talk about with Zyra, who was asking Arthur about killing someone.
She had noticed it scared him a bit, as he was sweating a little. She didn't know her friend was that extreme. She did think about torturing the one who made Arthur sad until she would be satisfied, but killing did sound extreme. It could be a possibility for her too, but only when she knew the severity of the person's crime, and how sad Arthur was.
'I have to give Zyra a lecture, she can't say such things in front of Arthur.'
Arthur noticed, but he still didn't back away and asked Zyra one last time.
"Are you okay now?"
Zyra was feeling embarrassed being held like that, but she didn't say anything, because she was feeling different emotions, which was one of the main reasons she had decided to leave the young lady's side.
'Liora was right, love is magical.'
'I had never felt so many things before that I have felt in the past couple of days.'
'My heart is beating loudly too.'
At first, she was not sure if she was in love with Arthur or not. She wanted to be like Liora, her friend who could show so many emotions, unlike her, who felt incapable of such things.
In the mission given to her by the young lady to keep an eye on Ivy Greenhearts, she met Liora — or it would be right to say Liora met her. She was drawn to her because of how colorful she was. She would smile, laugh, cry, and show different emotions.
She wanted to be like her, and she started copying her, and almost every bit of Liora's emotional change, she heard her say the name Arthur, and it was somehow involved.
Liora told her she was in love with Arthur, and she followed suit, hoping to be a little like her. She felt nothing for as long as she could remember.
She fought, she survived, she killed — that was her life.
She even got the role of being the shadow of the young lady herself, but even then, she felt nothing.
But in this mission, one where she was told only to watch someone — not kill, not eliminate — she found a different kind of purpose. Something beyond being a weapon.
She still remembered that first time she smiled a few days ago. It was the greatest feeling she had ever experienced. Not even when she stood as the last survivor among hundreds of children did she feel anything close. Not when she was chosen to become the shadow of the young lady.
She had followed every order, completed every mission, and received praise a few times... and yet, none of it meant anything. None of it ever reached her heart.
But over these past few months, by imitating Liora — mimicking her, her gestures, trying to learn how to feel — she stumbled upon something she never thought she'd find. A feeling. A warmth. A reason to hold on. The beginning wasn't kind. Her first real emotion came like a blade through the chest — the pain of hearing about Arthur's death from the Warden. She didn't know what to do with that ache.
The person she thought would help her feel something was gone before he even had the chance. It was devastating. Like the world had taken away her one chance at change before it could begin.
But after his survival… everything changed. The world that had always been gray had flecks of color. Her life, still dim compared to Liora's vibrant world, felt warmer now. Not as vivid as she hoped it would one day become… but enough. Enough to make her want to live. Something she had never valued before.
But she still doubted — unlike Liora, who was in love with Arthur — she was a shallow imitation who was hoping to be like her. But now, being held by him, she can feel her frozen heart, which did not show any reaction when she was close to dying many times before.
The beating of her heart had made her come to a conclusion and cleared all her doubts — now that it was not an imitation, and these feelings were hers.
"Are you okay now?"
She didn't understand why he was asking her that, but she still felt good knowing he was worried about her. She nodded her head a little.
Arthur, holding her face, felt and knew it was fine now when her eyes looked normal.
He took back his hands. Her face had become a little red due to him holding her face for so long, but seeing her having a smile on her face, Arthur knew she was alright.
While Zyra was smiling with a small smile on her face after clearing her doubts, still she was confused by something that had happened. She was going to ask Liora what it meant.
Arthur ended the conversation now because he was still scared of Zyra. It did seem like she didn't have any intention of harming him, but she did seem dangerous and mysterious.
He got to know that the reason he was not seeing them for the past couple of days was because they had been focusing on cultivating, so they had no free time.
Arthur told them to take care of themselves and to make some time to meet him from time to time as he missed them, and left now.
They were the first elves whom he had met in this new world. They saved his life, seemed to be in love with him too, and cared so much about him. He had developed a bond with them.
