Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Crashing The Party
The night air was thick with anticipation as Jiho, Haeun, and Sanghoon arrived at the abandoned warehouse near the docks. The coordinates from the intercepted message had led them here—a neutral ground where the Silver Fang and the Broker were set to meet.
Jiho crouched on the roof of a nearby building, his shadows blending seamlessly into the darkness. Below, the warehouse was dimly lit, with faint voices echoing from inside. Haeun and Sanghoon flanked him, their gazes focused on the entrance.
"This is risky," Haeun whispered, her voice barely audible. "We don't know how many people are in there or what kind of security they have."
"Risk is inevitable," Jiho replied calmly, his eyes scanning the scene. "But we need that information. The Broker is our ticket to taking Seo down."
Sanghoon adjusted the grip on his weapon. "What's the plan?"
Jiho's smirk was faint but confident. "Simple. We let them think they're in control—until they're not."
The Meeting
Inside the warehouse, a group of Silver Fang operatives stood in a loose circle. At the center was a tall, wiry man with a calculating gaze—the Broker. His demeanor exuded confidence, a man used to negotiating power.
"This is the deal," the Broker said, his voice carrying authority. "You deliver the Nexus core to Seo, and he ensures your Guild's dominance in the northern sectors. It's a win-win."
One of the Silver Fang leaders, a burly man with a scar running down his face, frowned. "And what guarantees do we have that Seo won't stab us in the back once he gets what he wants?"
The Broker's smile was cold. "Seo values loyalty. Prove yours, and you'll reap the benefits."
From his vantage point, Jiho listened intently, his shadows feeding him every word. He exchanged a glance with Haeun and Sanghoon, both ready to move on his signal.
The Disruption
Jiho's shadows slipped into the warehouse, weaving through the cracks and corners unnoticed. They reached the Silver Fang's weapons first, disarming them silently.
The lights in the warehouse flickered suddenly, plunging the room into near darkness. Confusion spread among the operatives, their voices rising in alarm.
"What's going on?" the scarred leader demanded, reaching for his now-missing weapon.
Before anyone could answer, Jiho stepped into the dim light, his figure shrouded in a menacing aura.
"You really should be more careful about who you trust," he said, his voice calm but dripping with authority.
The Broker's eyes narrowed, his composure slipping for a fraction of a second. "Who are you?"
"Someone who doesn't appreciate being manipulated," Jiho replied. His shadows surged forward, wrapping around the legs of the Silver Fang operatives, immobilizing them.
Haeun and Sanghoon entered from opposite sides, their weapons drawn. The room tensed, the balance of power shifting in an instant.
The Interrogation
Jiho approached the Broker, his expression cold and unyielding. "You've been quite the thorn in my side. Now, you're going to tell me everything about Seo's plans."
The Broker sneered, though fear flickered in his eyes. "You think you can intimidate me? I've dealt with worse than you."
Jiho's shadows tightened around the Broker's arms, forcing him to his knees. "Let's test that theory, shall we?"
Haeun stepped forward, her voice sharp. "We know about the Nexus cores and Seo's ambitions. Start talking, or this ends badly for you."
The Broker hesitated, his gaze darting between Jiho and Haeun. Finally, he sighed, the defiance draining from his posture.
"Fine," he muttered. "Seo isn't just after the Nexus cores. He's building something—a device that can control dungeon portals. If he succeeds, he'll have absolute power over every Guild and dungeon in the country."
Jiho's eyes narrowed. "Where is he building it?"
The Broker shook his head. "I don't know. I swear. He keeps his operations compartmentalized. But I do know he's recruiting experts in magic and technology to finish it."
Jiho studied the Broker for a long moment before releasing him. "You're going to set up another meeting with Seo. Only this time, we'll be the ones waiting for him."
The Broker nodded reluctantly, knowing he had no other choice.
Aftermath
As the group left the warehouse, Jiho's mind churned with possibilities. Seo's ambitions were larger than he had anticipated, and the stakes had never been higher.
"We're running out of time," Haeun said quietly as they walked. "If Seo completes that device…"
"He won't," Jiho interrupted, his voice firm. "We'll stop him before he gets the chance."
Sanghoon glanced at Jiho. "And if the Broker betrays us?"
Jiho's smirk returned, dark and confident. "Then we'll make sure he regrets it."
The trio disappeared into the night, their next move already taking shape.
