Dragon Ball Roshi

Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Only a Few Seconds for North Kai to Be Astonished

Startled, North Kai immediately unleashed all of his power without a second thought. A burst of white energy wrapped around his short, chubby body. In the nick of time, he barely managed to dodge Taro's punch, which had come from behind!

Flying to the side in mid-air, North Kai was shocked as he looked down at Taro. When did he get behind me?! At that moment, Taro was still holding his punch forward. North Kai furrowed his brows and wondered.

"How did you get so fast?"

Taro, looking up from the ground, said nothing. In the next second, he vanished from the ground again!

"What?!"

This time, North Kai was prepared. His eyes widened as he watched carefully—Taro wasn't just fast; he was teleporting!

 Whoosh—

A punch slicing through the air came again from behind North Kai!

 "Dammit!"

A burst of brilliant white energy erupted from North Kai's plump body, narrowly dodging the attack once more—Taro's fist grazed the edge of his clothes.

"Useless. Even if you can teleport close to me, the power difference is too great. I have enough time to react and strike back!" North Kai flew to the side and called out to Taro, who was hovering in the air.

Taro stayed in the air as well, shaking his head.

 "It seems that's true."

In situations where there was such a large difference in power, even if he could teleport close to the opponent, by the time he made an attack, the stronger opponent would have enough time to react.

"But that's not the main point—how did you learn how to teleport?" He was puzzled, as although he didn't keep up with Earth, there shouldn't have been such an ability there.

"It's because on Earth, we have something called the Dragon Balls. If you gather them all..." Taro answered.

North Kai interrupted him, more shocked than before.

"Dragon Balls?! Earth? How is that possible?! How could Earth have Dragon Balls?"

Taro, speechless, just looked at him.

North Kai furrowed his brow, then, without paying attention to Taro, stroked the fleshy whiskers on his chin and muttered to himself.

"I remember Dragon Balls belong to the Namekians, right? How did they end up on Earth? Strange, strange... Wait a minute..." With that, two long antennae on his head leaned forward, and Taro knew he was probing for information about Earth.

Sure enough, shortly after, North Kai's expression cleared, and he exclaimed.

"So, your gods on Earth are Namekians! I understand now. They must have escaped from Namek when it was destroyed!"

 Taro remained calm.

 "Namekians?"

North Kai rolled his eyes, even though Taro couldn't see it behind his sunglasses.

"What do you think? You think Dragon Balls are something simple? Besides the Namekians, I've never seen any other race in the galaxy capable of creating them!"

Taro moved his lips as if about to speak.

 North Kai, puzzled, asked.

"What's with all the hesitation? Just say it!" Over the past few days, North Kai had gotten quite familiar with Taro. Because they had been exchanging martial arts knowledge, they had developed a teacher-student, yet also a friendly, bond.

Taro finally exhaled deeply and spoke candidly.

"At this point, I don't plan to hide it from you anymore. King Kai, the real reason I came here... was to get the location of Namek from you!"

North Kai was even more surprised. He flew around Taro, inspecting him closely, then returned to face him with a smirk.

"So you're saying... when you first arrived, you could already use the Muken thirteen times?"

 "Correct."

"And you already knew that the god on Earth was a Namekian?"

"...Not exactly. I knew he was from the universe, so I guessed there might be more powerful Dragon Balls in his homeland. I couldn't make my wish come true on Earth, so I hoped to do so there."

"So, you made a wish on Earth to gain the ability to teleport, and then found your way to me?"

 "Exactly."

 North Kai clicked his tongue.

"Interesting... You could have just asked me for the location of Namek, but why didn't you say it right away?"

 Taro explained.

"When I first came, I was worried that if I revealed my real purpose, you might just send me away. After all, I didn't know your true nature, so I came up with this plan, hoping to slowly gain your trust and reveal the truth later..." He shook his head. "But after spending this time exchanging martial arts with you, I understand that you are sincere with me, so when it came to this point, I felt guilty and didn't want to continue lying."

North Kai was silent for a moment, then rolled his eyes—this time, Taro couldn't see it—and muttered.

"You old fox, you really have a lot of tricks up your sleeve!"

Taro, his face now full of wrinkles, simply smiled and said nothing.

 North Kai then asked.

"Is there anything else you're hiding from me?"

Taro thought for a moment before replying.

"There are indeed some things I haven't told you, but those are more of my personal secrets..."

North Kai waved his hand, interrupting him.

"Enough, enough, why say so much? Just say no!" After thinking for a moment, he resumed his combat stance and threatened. "Kid, since you dared to deceive me... be prepared for a real beating!"

Taro also took his own attack stance in mid-air, saying.

"I am ready for the punishment."

At this point, the pressure emanating from North Kai's body was gradually intensifying. It felt almost tangible, slowly closing in on Taro with an overwhelming force.

Taro knew he couldn't afford to be careless; North Kai was probably really about to go all out this time. His Muken was in full operation, his body tense and ready.

The grass and trees on the entire King Kai's planet were gently swaying under the immense pressure, especially from North Kai's aura.

 Whoosh!

 North Kai charged forward!

 So fast!

Taro's eyes widened, instinctively activating his blood-red Sharingan. His dynamic vision improved significantly, but even then... he could only catch a faint shadow.

 Bang!

A sharp pain surged through Taro's abdomen, as if a mountain had collided with him head-on. He was sent flying backward!

 Bang!

Another punch landed on his stomach while he was flying, causing Taro to gag and cough mid-air.

The difference in power was too great.

As North Kai had said, Taro's power was around 300, and even with the boost from his thirteen-fold Muken, his combat power was still under 4,000. How could he possibly keep up with North Kai, whose combat power exceeded 10,000 when fully unleashed?

 Bang! Bang! Bang!

Taro was battered like a satellite, being relentlessly struck and pursued by North Kai through the air. In no time, he had completed a full orbit around King Kai's planet.

 Bang!

Once again, Taro's abdomen took a heavy hit as he flew past, narrowly missing a fruit tree where Bubbles, the chimpanzee, sat. The chimp was peeling a banana and looked up at him.

 Damn it...

Taro's Sharingan eyes spun rapidly, the three tomoe forming a four-cornered windmill, and he saw it! He immediately activated his thirteen-fold Muken, swinging his arm toward the shadow he had just seen!

 But he missed.

North Kai's short, plump figure appeared directly above Taro. Still in mid-air, Taro tried to protect his body, but North Kai came crashing down with both hands in a hammering motion!

 Bang!

Taro was struck from above while still flying backward, his trajectory suddenly changing into a sharp angle. With a whistle, he plummeted to the ground, slamming into King Kai's planet!

Boom! The ground created a deep crater shaped like a person.

North Kai landed gracefully, wiping the sweat from his forehead. He let out a sigh of relief, smiling.

"Much better, ha-ha…" He looked completely relaxed after his exertion.

 Cough, cough...

A hand appeared from the crater, grabbing onto the edge. Taro crawled out, covered in dust, with bruises all over and clutching his abdomen in pain. North Kai hadn't just targeted his stomach; after Taro tried to protect himself, he had delivered several more punches straight to Taro's face.

Taro wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and sighed.

"That was a bit too much."

 North Kai laughed.

"You deserved it! Huh?" His eyes narrowed as he noticed Taro's blood-red eyes, his expression puzzled. "What happened to your eyes?"

Taro moved his mouth slightly and spat out a broken tooth mixed with blood.

"Didn't you secretly try practicing Muken, Lord Kai?" He smiled silently and deduced. "How did that go? I guess it didn't work out, did it?"

 North Kai blushed.

"That was only because I didn't have enough time, and I didn't practice carefully!"

 Taro shook his head.

"I once took on a disciple back on Earth. His natural talent for martial arts was extraordinary, far surpassing mine. Yet, after nearly ten years of effort, he still couldn't even get past the basics of Muken."

 North Kai was taken aback.

 "You mean...?"

 Taro continued.

"The true origin of my Muken... actually comes from these mutated eyes." His crimson eyes, spinning in the shape of a windmill, stared at North Kai as he spoke. "The thing is, using these eyes comes with a huge personal cost to me, so I had to develop a substitute technique: Muken."

North Kai appeared deep in thought, yet he seemed to find it hard to believe.

"You're saying… without these eyes, you wouldn't be able to learn Muken?"

"At least, that's how it seems for now."

"Unbelievable, this doesn't make sense..." North Kai was deeply puzzled. Suddenly, he seemed to have an epiphany. His eyes fixed on Taro as he asked. "You just said Muken comes from the power of your eyes. Does that mean... if you use these eyes, you can go beyond 'thirteen times'?"

Taro smiled slightly, taking a deep breath.

"I can probably only use it for a few seconds, Lord Kai… I apologize in advance."

Whoosh! The four-cornered windmill in his eyes began to spin uncontrollably.

 Thirty times!
