Chapter 5: Chapter -5 Beibei's Caution.
Chapter -5.
"I can see your soul power isn't stuck at a bottleneck. I'm curious about what brings you to the Star Dou Forest," Beibei said, sporting a somewhat pretentious grin.
Not long ago, their group had been caught off guard by Ziling, which had affected both him and Xiaoya, while only Chen Feng came out completely unharmed, leaving Beibei feeling a mix of surprise and confusion.
Noticing Beibei's guarded expression, Tang Ya crossed her arms and remarked, "Beibei, there's no need for Chen Feng to explain his reasons for being in the Star Dou Forest. After all, he gave us the Ziling spirit ring, and we should be thankful for that. You're being a bit rude!"
"Uh..." Beibei stumbled over his words at Xiaoya's comment. It was true; Chen Feng wasn't obligated to explain anything to him.
Observing the exchange, Chen Feng interjected, "Senior Tang Ya, you can't hold it against Senior Beibei. It's only natural to be cautious when meeting someone for the first time in the Star Dou Forest."
Hearing Chen Feng described as handsome, strong, understanding, and mature—especially after just getting her a spirit ring—Tang Ya felt her admiration for him multiplying.
She turned back to Beibei, "Come on, Beibei, you really went too far just now. You need to apologize to Junior Chen."
Chen Feng couldn't help but chuckle at the amusing situation, saying, "Senior, how can we make Senior Beibei apologize? He was just looking out for you."
Tang Ya found herself liking Chen Feng more and more, impressed by how young yet mature he appeared. However, the more Chen Feng spoke, the more she hoped for Beibei to apologize.
With a glare directed at Beibei, she noted his hesitation as he looked back and forth between Chen Feng and her, recognizing her intent to defend Chen Feng.
His charming smile faded, and he awkwardly said, "Junior Chen, I'm sorry, I was in the wrong."
Chen Feng chuckled to himself, thinking, Little Beibei, are you trying to get one over on me?
He then shifted the conversation to Xiaoya.
As Chen Feng shared the sorrowful tale of losing his parents to soul beasts when he was just five years old, and how he had to fend for himself while honing his skills, Xiaoya's eyes grew misty.
She felt a pulse of empathy for his story, recognizing their shared experience as orphans, each having lost their family legacies to others.
For a fleeting moment, Tang Ya felt that she and Chen Feng truly connected on a deeper level.
Looking at him, despite his youthful appearance, she felt an overwhelming urge to offer a comforting hug.
Tang Ya reached out her delicate hand and held onto Chen Feng's firm grip.
"Everything will be alright. We'll take you to Shrek Academy ourselves, and from now on, I'll look out for you. If anyone dares to cross you, they won't recognize themselves afterwards," she playfully declared, shaking her tightly clenched fist as she spoke.
Chen Feng couldn't help but smile at the lovable Tang Ya, responding with, "Thank you, Senior Xiaoya."
As he watched the two becoming increasingly comfortable with each other, Beibei felt a pang of concern.
Oh no, Chen Feng's charm might just sweep Xiaoya off her feet!
Quickly, Beibei joined the conversation between Chen Feng and Xiaoya, to which Chen Feng simply offered a friendly smile.
Meanwhile, Huo Yuhao, who was in the middle of fusing his spirit ring, appeared to be at a critical juncture, trembling uncontrollably.
With only basic innate soul power, Huo Yuhao's physical abilities were quite limited; his meridians were narrow, fragile, and even tangled.
As a result, he was experiencing intense pain as the power from the soul ring pressed against his blocked meridians during the absorption process.
In Chen Feng's mind, the Dream Ice Silkworm commented, "This guy has a spiritual attribute martial soul but his talent is remarkably poor—level ten soul power, weak innate ability, and a fragile body. Honestly, I'm lucky I met Chen Feng first. If I had followed him, it would've been a tough journey." Satisfied with his choice, the Dream Ice Silkworm went back to resting.
Beibei and Tang Ya watched Huo Yuhao's pained expression with concern, but they couldn't interrupt his absorption; that might lead to severe injury or deter him from being a soul master.
Beibei understood that despite Huo Yuhao's limitations, he managed to make it this far. It was surprising that even a three-hundred-year soul ring was challenging for him to handle.
Moreover, Beibei was impressed that Huo Yuhao had cultivated himself to the realm of a soul master; it spoke volumes about his perseverance and determination.
On his side, Chen Feng quietly watched Huo Yuhao, acknowledging that without the Dream Ice Silkworm, it would be nearly impossible for Huo Yuhao to grow strong. Reaching soul king level with only innate level one was already a significant achievement.
Chen Feng held no resentment towards Huo Yuhao and was fine with him being just a passing acquaintance. He sighed, reflecting on how the smallest changes could bring about significant differences... the Dream Ice Silkworm had arrived ahead of schedule, while Illex seemed to have vanished.
Ultimately, Huo Yuhao managed to complete the fusion without injury, stabilizing his condition as he entered a cultivation state. Curious, Chen Feng turned to Tang Ya and asked, "Sister Xiaoya, it looks like this young man is having a tough time absorbing the spirit ring. Is he also a freshman at Shrek Academy?"
Chen Feng decided to address her as Sister Xiaoya, forgoing the earlier title. "His name is Huo Yuhao. Yes, he'll be joining us at Shrek Academy. Even though his soul power doesn't quite meet the standard, our Tang Sect does allow one student each year to enter without examination," Tang Ya replied with a smile, leaning in a little closer to Chen Feng, the faint scent of her presence making itself known.
"Impressive, right? Would you consider joining us?" As the leader of Tang Sect, Tang Ya immediately saw an opportunity to recruit Chen Feng. "Sister Xiaoya, I think I'll hold off on joining a sect until after graduation," Chen Feng tactfully clarified, indicating his lack of interest in the Tang Sect.
Hearing that Tang Ya wanted Chen Feng to join the Tang Sect, Beibei internally panicked at the thought of him spending all his time with her. No way, Chen Feng cannot join the Tang Sect!!!
"Sister Xiaoya, since Chen Feng said that, let's drop the subject. I think Chen Feng isn't particularly impressed with the current Tang Sect," Beibei tried to steer Tang Ya's thoughts, wanting to highlight that Chen Feng's disinterest suggested he held the Tang Sect in low regard.
Tang Ya's spirits visibly dropped upon hearing Beibei's words, clearly feeling affected. Beibei recognized his mistake when he saw her disappointment.
Taking note of her sorrow, Chen Feng offered comforting words, and gradually, Tang Ya's sadness transformed into joy as she began to ignore Beibei, laughing and chatting animatedly with Chen Feng. Meanwhile, Beibei thought, Tang Ya seems really annoyed and doesn't want to talk to me, hmph!!
Beibei slapped his forehead, berating himself for being so foolish.
Tl/N: Reading this? Throw some power stones then!!
