Chapter 40: 40. New Home
Zach stood opposite Mark, arms crossed.
"I don't think you understand. You don't need this garbage you call a house."
Zain stood behind Zach, perplexed.
"Wait, Zach, we actually do need this apartment," Zain placed his hand on Zach's shoulder.
"No, we don't."
Zach brought out his old phone. He hadn't gotten a new one but he was planning to soon.
He took out his bank card, and Mark's jaw dropped.
Zach dialed the number on the bottom corner.
The phone rang for a few moments, then a voice rang through the phone.
"Hello, I suppose this is Master Zachariah."
"Yes," Zach replied.
"I want a house, effective immediately," he spoke firmly.
Mark watched in doubt and amusement.
Zain was behind Zach, confusion plastered all over his face.
"Yes, sir, what are your specifications?"
Zach pondered.
"I'd like it to be located somewhere nice, and it has to be huge," Zach said.
"Yes, sir," the voice said respectfully.
"I've found a place, sir," the voice said.
'That fast!?'
"O... okay," Zach's voice cracked a bit.
"Should I send the location to an Uber to come pick you up?"
"Yes, please..."
"Sure thing."
Zach hung up the phone.
"What... what was that?" Zain leaned in.
"That, my bro, is our new house calling us," Zach's grin widened.
He, of course, knew he would have to pay once he liked and approved the place.
But honestly, anywhere was better than this slum hole.
Mark looked at the duo, totally speechless.
A moment later, a black SUV pulled up across the street, and a man dressed in a suit walked to them.
Zain watched in amazement as this happened.
"Master Zachariah, your house is prepared," the butler bowed.
"This is outrageous," Mark gritted.
Zach ignored him, walked over to the vehicle, and stepped inside with Zain following behind him like a confused little child.
The vehicle moved, and on the way, Zach briefed his brother about what was going on.
About the Western Dragon Enterprise, about the fissure exploration, about the job, and about the dangers.
Zach just told Zain that he made a few bucks, nothing too crazy, so as not to get his brother too excited.
The Western Dragon Enterprise had already taken the Tether back, so Zach couldn't see his system screen.
But there was something they couldn't take from him.
And that was his God's Fragment. That was probably why they were willing to waste their resources on him to send him to the Saint Academy.
He was strong enough to totally obliterate his enemies.
Zach's smile disappeared as he remembered the Witcher.
The silver knight was weakened when it fought him in the canyon game, but then when Eli and he fought it, it was at its full power.
His mind drifted to Iris.
The beautiful seeker was able to decapitate such a foe with such a light movement, which showed that devastating attacks weren't the key to victory, but the strength behind it.
Zain was looking out the window like a puppy. They were entering the higher districts, this was where the elites of society resided.
The car took a turn and screeched just inches from a translucent gate.
More men in suits stood at the gate.
Zach stepped out confidently.
The house in front of them looked like a dream carved into reality.
It was three stories tall, a sprawling mansion of glass, steel, and white stone. The glass spiraled, forming a unique shape that caught the eyes immediately.
The rays of the sun bounced off the surface; the edges were straight yet pristine. Zach's smile widened as the butler gestured for him to enter.
The gate, which was a series of lasers, turned off, and Zach walked into the yard.
The front lawn was wide, trimmed with perfect emerald grass and concrete. A wide circular fountain interrupted the structure, where flowing, crystal-clear water arched gracefully into the air.
By the side, a driveway made with black marble nestled.
This house screamed luxury.
"Do you want to take a detour before you make up your mind?" The butler stood beside Zach.
"Please, a detour," Zain interrupted, smiling like a kid who just saw a new toy to play with.
"With pleasure, Master Zain, please follow me."
Zach giggled as Zain followed the butler.
The main entrance rose one story high, framed by tall glass doors rimmed with gold. Above them, intricate carvings of peacocks spiraled across the balcony rails, a symbol of Central Bank.
Inside the tall window, Zach could already glimpse the jaw-dropping structures of the chandeliers.
The door opened without a sound.
Zach walked in while Zain froze on the threshold, mouth drooling.
The words he would use to describe this were, "A cathedral of wealth."
Golden chandeliers shaped like snowflakes hung gracefully from the ceiling. The floor gleamed with polished tiles so perfect it looked like a black mirror.
A spiral staircase shot upwards, guided by railings with a silver inlay.
Zach followed the butler casually, hands in his pockets.
"Bro, the floors are shining! I can see my nose hair in it," Zain crouched down, tilting his head as if to test his reflection.
The butler chuckled politely.
"Don't embarrass us, bro," Zach muttered from the corner of his mouth.
They were in the space between the main exit and the main entrance, the balcony.
The butler gently pushed open the doors leading to the living room.
Zach could feel his heart race with excitement.
"I don't know how these guys know what I want."
Zach was thinking he would have to reject a couple of houses before he settled for what he truly wanted, but this...
This was phenomenal.
