Chapter 213: Regret
After all, it's not my fault. My parents were the ones who gave me my name. When I was born, I was weak and sickly, and my grandfather was afraid I wouldn't make it. He figured a humble name would make me easier to raise, and that's how I ended up as Liu Ergou. By the time my birth was officially registered, the name stuck. That's pretty much the whole story.
"Have you laughed enough yet?" Liu Ergou said irritably.
Hearing him, He Mingxue finally managed to stifle her laughter. "Sorry, I didn't mean to," she said, sticking out her tongue in embarrassment. "I just never expected to meet someone with a name like that in this day and age."
She looked like she was about to say more, but in the next second, she had a sudden realization. She quickly pulled a business card from her purse and handed it to Liu Ergou.
"Thank you so much for today, handsome Liu Ergou!" she said. "I just remembered I have something urgent to take care of, so I have to go. If you ever need anything in the future, please call me. If there's any way I can help, I will! I'm off now!"
Without another word, He Mingxue hurried out of the shop.
Just as He Mingxue left, Liu Yunxi stepped out of the fitting room. She was wearing the white dress and stood at the doorway, looking at Liu Ergou with a bashful expression. The moment he saw her, Liu Ergou froze.
It wasn't for any other reason. It was because Liu Yunxi looked absolutely breathtaking in that white dress. I saw her in it earlier, of course, but that was just a quick glance during an emergency. I didn't get a proper look. Now that I can, I can't even find the words to describe how beautiful she is.
While Liu Ergou was lost in his thoughts, the sales associate who had been mocking them earlier suddenly stomped over and started yelling. "What do you two think you're doing? Who told you that you could wear that dress? Take it off right now! Can you afford to pay for it if you get it dirty? Do you have any idea how much that dress costs? How dare you just put it on!"
Then she turned on the younger associate. "And you! What's wrong with you? Why did you get this dress down for them? If anything happens to it, are you going to pay for it?"
Hearing this, the young sales associate stood to the side with an aggrieved look on her face. She lowered her head, not daring to breathe too loudly.
Seeing this, Liu Ergou was about to speak up for the young woman, but an idea suddenly struck him, and he closed his mouth. Instead, he turned to the young associate. "Come here for a second. I need you to do something."
The young woman timidly approached him.
Liu Ergou took out his bank card and handed it to her. "We'll take this dress. Also, I'd like you to pick out a few more outfits for her. Just follow this style. Price is no object; pick whatever you think looks good."
The young associate stood there, dumbfounded, unsure how to react. But the snobbish one, upon hearing his words, rushed over immediately. She forcefully shoved the younger associate aside and tried to snatch the bank card from Liu Ergou's hand.
"Oh, sir!" she gushed. "Leave the clothes selection to a professional like me! These young girls have no idea how to coordinate an outfit. Just tell me what you need, and I guarantee I'll take care of everything for you!"
Liu Ergou didn't even bother to look at her. "None of your damn business. Did I call you?"
Her fawning expression froze on her face as she stood there, stunned.
Acting as if she wasn't even there, Liu Ergou walked right past her to the young associate and held out the bank card again. "Go on," he urged. "We're in a bit of a hurry, so please don't waste our time."
Liu Ergou's words finally snapped the young associate out of her daze. Her head was spinning. This was all happening so fast! A dress that cost 18,888 yuan... She'd get a huge commission from that alone. And he wanted to buy even more clothes on top of that? This one sale would be more than her entire month's salary!
At that thought, she eagerly took the bank card from Liu Ergou and scrambled to assist him.
Now, no one in the shop dared to look down on Liu Ergou and Liu Yunxi. Instead, they all looked at Liu Yunxi with envy. Who wouldn't be jealous of a boyfriend like that? Not only was he willing to spend a fortune on a dress for his girlfriend, but he had also single-handedly dealt with the troublemakers from earlier. It would be a lie to say they weren't envious.
After waiting a little longer, the young sales associate returned. She carried the bagged clothes she had picked out and respectfully handed Liu Ergou the bank card and receipt.
After taking the items, Liu Ergou didn't leave right away. He stood there, studying Liu Yunxi. He felt like something was still missing, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. After a moment of thought, he finally realized what it was and clapped his hands together.
"Ah, I remember now!" he exclaimed. He turned back to the young sales associate. "I almost forgot. My girlfriend needs a matching pair of shoes. Could you quickly find some that go with this dress? Same rule as before: price is not an issue."
With that, he tossed the bank card back to her.
The young woman caught the card and rushed off without hesitation. A few minutes later, she returned with a pair of sparkling silver high heels. Liu Ergou nodded, satisfied with her choice. Only then did he pay and leave with Liu Yunxi.
All told—the dress, the shoes, and the other outfits—the total came to over 40,000 yuan.
As Liu Ergou walked away, the snobbish sales associate watched his receding figure, her stomach churning with regret. Why did I have to be so judgmental? Why did I look down on him from the very beginning? If I hadn't, all that commission would have been mine. But it was too late for regrets now. All she could do was watch remorsefully as he and Liu Yunxi disappeared from view.
Meanwhile, Liu Ergou led Liu Yunxi out of the mall.
