Chapter 156 Forget it!
Liu Yunxi's skin was incredibly pale. Liu Ergou could guarantee it was the fairest he had ever seen, without exception.
Though it was just a brief glimpse, Liu Ergou had gotten a clear look at the breathtaking view: the snow-white skin, the slender waist, and that petite, adorable…
This made Liu Ergou gulp subconsciously.
There were plenty of beautiful women in Fengzhu Village, and he had met others like Fu Ya in town, but none of them possessed skin as fair as Liu Yunxi's. Furthermore, her endearingly innocent demeanor was exceptionally alluring, carrying a unique charm all its own.
Sitting opposite him, Liu Yunxi noticed his unwavering stare, and the blush that had just faded from her face bloomed once more. Liu Ergou's gaze was just too invasive; it made her feel as if invisible hands were constantly caressing her skin. Within minutes, a sudden heat flushed through her, snapping her back to her senses. The first thing she did was pat her own little cheeks, admonishing herself internally.
Oh, Liu Yunxi, how could you be like this? Getting flustered just because a man you've only met twice is staring at you! You really shouldn't have reacted!
After scolding herself, Liu Yunxi softly called out to him. "Um, could you please stop staring at me… Liu Ergou?"
Her voice snapped the daydreaming Liu Ergou back to reality. "Huh? What did you say?"
Seeing that he had finally registered her words, Liu Yunxi repeated herself. Liu Ergou smiled sheepishly. "You don't have to use my full name," he said. "Just call me Er Gou. It's less distant."
Liu Yunxi nodded. "Mhm, okay, then I'll call you Er Gou. You don't have to use my full name either. Just call me Yun Xi; it's what my family calls me."
Liu Ergou nodded in acknowledgment. "Alright, Yun Xi."
Hearing him call her name so intimately, Liu Yunxi couldn't help but blush again. After murmuring her agreement, she settled down quietly under the tree to rest. Er Gou averted his gaze, and neither of them spoke, simply sitting in silence as time ticked by.
Soon, the sun was no longer scorching. The two of them, sheltered by the tree, packed up and resumed their journey. Although the weather had cooled, Liu Yunxi still felt hot. This time, however, she didn't dare to take off her white shirt, simply enduring the heat as she followed slowly behind Liu Ergou. The journey, which should have taken a little over an hour, ended up taking them an hour and a half before they finally arrived at Fengzhu Village.
Upon reaching Fengzhu Village, Liu Ergou planned to take Liu Yunxi straight to the village committee. To his surprise, however, she refused to go and insisted on following him home. He felt a headache coming on as he looked at her. "Yun Xi, is it really appropriate for you to come home with me? We've only met twice... If you come to my place, what am I supposed to tell people?"
Unexpectedly, Liu Yunxi puffed out her small chest and said defiantly, "What's wrong with that? Aren't we friends? Besides, I just got here and have nowhere to stay. Isn't it normal for me to stay at your place? I didn't realize you were so stingy! Stingy fool!" As she finished, she even stuck her tongue out and made a face at him.
This left Liu Ergou completely exasperated. He truly didn't know what to make of her.
Is she naturally clueless? Or just overly mischievous?
It seemed neither description quite fit. Watching her, his headache worsened as he wondered how on earth he could turn her down. But seeing her air of absolute certainty, he knew that successfully refusing her was probably impossible.
Just as Liu Ergou's headache intensified, a frantic voice called out from the distance. "Er Gou! Er Gou! Oh my god, Er Gou! Where have you been? You worried me to death!"
Before Liu Ergou could even process who was calling him, a tan, muscular man was already running anxiously toward him. The man reached him in a flash, grabbed his wrist, and began dragging him away. Caught off guard, Liu Ergou was pulled several feet before he could react.
Liu Yunxi, who was standing right beside him, quickly shouted, "Hey! What do you think you're doing?"
Her shout snapped the dazed Liu Ergou back to his senses. "Whoa, whoa, Brother Luo Kang, what are you doing?! Let go first! Don't just drag me off, we can talk about whatever it is!"
However, Luo Kang ignored his words, not only refusing to let go but tightening his grip as if he were afraid Liu Ergou would bolt. This left Liu Ergou feeling helpless, forcing him to yank his arm free. "Brother Luo Kang, let's talk properly. What's the big rush? Did something happen?"
Seeing Liu Ergou's clueless expression, Luo Kang stomped his foot in frustration. "Er Gou!" he yelled, exasperated. "Didn't we agree you'd treat my wife's condition? It's supposed to be three treatments, but you've completely forgotten after only two!"
Luo Kang's reminder finally jogged his memory. Liu Ergou slapped his forehead, his face full of apology. "Oh no, Brother Luo Kang, I didn't do it on purpose!
"I've just had so much going on, trying to get my medical practice certificate and all, that it completely slipped my mind. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!
"I'm really sorry, Brother Luo Kang!"
Hearing his apology, Luo Kang didn't waste any more words. He grabbed Liu Ergou's hand again and started pulling him along. "As long as you remember, let's go! I've been to your house two or three times, and you were never there. I was going crazy!
"My wife's milk supply has been dwindling these last couple of days. My son's going hungry! It's driving me insane!"
Liu Ergou nodded repeatedly as he listened, but he couldn't just go with Luo Kang right now—Liu Yunxi was still with him. He couldn't just abandon her on the road. After a moment's thought, he tried to reason with Luo Kang. "Brother Luo Kang, wait! Please stop for a second and listen to me!"
