Doctor and His Glamorous Sister-in-Law

Chapter 134 Misfortune Never Comes Alone

Hearing the clamorous voice, Liu Ergou stepped forward without hesitation and delivered a resounding slap.

The force of the blow burst the pustules on the man's face. Yellow pus splattered onto Liu Ergou's hand, causing him to frown in disgust. The man crumpled to the ground, unconscious. Now, Liu Ergou was the only one left standing in the hospital room.

What Liu Ergou didn't know, however, was that the elderly man on the bed was not unconscious at all. On the contrary, he was keenly aware of everything that had just transpired. At that moment, the old man lay on the hospital bed, his breathing rapid and shallow.

He'd been an official his entire life, always the one dishing out punishments, never the one receiving them. To be bullied like this, right in front of his eyes… it was a humiliation worse than death! An utter disgrace!

The more the old man stewed, the angrier he became. He tried to raise an arm to berate Liu Ergou, but his body refused to obey. After several failed attempts, the sheer fury overwhelmed him. His eyes rolled back into his head, and he lost consciousness.

Just as the old man passed out, the life support machine connected to him blared with a piercing alarm.

The sudden noise snapped the dazed doctors and nurses out of their stupor. An older doctor was the first to react. "This is bad! We have an emergency!" he shouted. "Hurry, get the Director!"

He then turned to the other medical staff. "Now is not the time to stand around gawking! Prepare for emergency resuscitation, now!"

Soon, the medical staff burst into a flurry of activity, all except for Qian Xiaoling.

Watching the sudden frenzy, Liu Ergou scratched his head in confusion. Why are they so worked up over this old guy?

Just then, the Director came rushing down the stairs. He opened his mouth to speak, but froze when he saw Liu Ergou standing off to the side. He instinctively flinched, not daring to utter a word.

Seeing the Director, Liu Ergou immediately questioned him. "What's the story with that old man in the room? Why is everyone freaking out just because his machine started beeping?"

The Director didn't beat around the bush. "That old man… he's no ordinary person. You know Cai Qiang, right?"

Liu Ergou nodded, surprised. "I know of him, but what does that have to do with this? Is it because he's 'so strong'?"

The Director shook his head at Liu Ergou's confused expression. "The connection is huge!" He pointed a finger at the pustule-covered young man on the floor. "That is Cai Qiang's younger brother. And the old man in the bed? That's his father. Get it now?"

So, this is Cai Qiang's actual father, Liu Ergou thought, finally putting the pieces together. Tsk, what's that saying? The road is narrow for enemies. I made an enemy of Cai Qiang because of Lu Shuangyue, and now I've run into his father and his brother. Fate sure is a strange thing!

But another question soon occurred to him. "Hey, that can't be right," he said aloud. "Cai Qiang is just a local tyrant. Is he really that scary to you all?"

The Director, who was in the middle of giving orders, spun around to answer. "He may just be a local tyrant, but you can't underestimate his family's connections! That old man… I hear he has ties to officials at the provincial level! Do you understand me now?"

Nodding in realization, Liu Ergou watched the bustling staff. Alright, my part here is done, he thought, deciding not to bother them anymore. He prepared to leave with Qian Xiaoling. The rest isn't my problem. If Cai Qiang wants revenge later, I'll just deal with it when it comes. Fear? That's not even a possibility.

However, just as Liu Ergou took a step to leave, a panicked voice cried out. "Director, it's no use! He's going into ventricular fibrillation! The defibrillator isn't working!"

"He's about to die!"

The Director broke out in a cold sweat. If this old man died in his hospital, the consequences would be catastrophic. Losing the hospital would be the least of his worries; Cai Qiang's retaliation was the real terror. His own connections were a joke compared to the Cai family's. He feared there wouldn't even be ashes left of him to bury.

"It's over…" the Director paced back and forth in the hospital room, muttering with each pass. "It's all over!"

The constant repetition was giving Liu Ergou a headache.

After pacing for four or five laps, the Director finally changed his tune. "Oh, Liu Ergou, Liu Ergou! Let's forget everything else for a moment. You've gotten us into huge trouble, and you're just going to wash your hands of this and walk away without a care in the world! But I'll be the one who's finished! I should have just let you beat me to death the other day!"

After saying this, the Director began pacing anxiously once more.

This time, it didn't take long.

Another doctor yelled, "Director, bad news! The patient's heart is about to stop!"

The words "heart is about to stop" made the Director's sparse hair stand on end.

"Adrenaline!" he shrieked, his voice cracking. "Maximum dose! We cannot let him die here!"

The Director's forehead was drenched in anxious sweat, his eyes were bloodshot, and his entire body trembled uncontrollably.

Seeing the Director's state, Liu Ergou couldn't just stand by and watch. The Director is my underling, after all. How can a boss not help his subordinate when he's in trouble?

With that thought, Liu Ergou stepped forward and held up a hand. "Alright, that's enough! Stop with the adrenaline. It's useless. The old man is going to die with or without it. Everyone, stop. Let me handle this."

Hearing this, the already frantic Director became even more agitated. "Oh, for heaven's sake, Er Gou! I'll call you 'Grandpa' if you want! Just don't mess around at a time like this!"

"Without adrenaline, he's a dead man! Unless you're that Divine Doctor who showed up here a few days ago, don't make trouble!"

A smile touched Liu Ergou's lips. "Oh? So you've heard about that Divine Doctor, have you?" he asked, feigning surprise.

Without even turning around, the Director shot back, "This is my hospital! Of course I've heard of him! I heard he cured an old woman with a stage-three tumor, and that old woman was my patient!"
