Chapter 119 Let's go
Could Liu Ergou really be smitten with me?
Though the thought crossed her mind, Bai Xiuxiu didn't let it show on her face. Instead, she took another careful look at Liu Ergou's eyes. After that second glance, she was certain. What Liu Ergou really wanted was her.
This sudden development caught Bai Xiuxiu completely off guard. She had originally assumed the most he could want was money, and that was it. She never expected that he would actually be interested in *her*. Bai Xiuxiu had never been short of male admirers, but this revelation was still a profound shock.
Honestly, if it hadn't been for Liu Ergou treating the old woman, Bai Xiuxiu would never have considered him worth her attention, let alone given him a second glance. Yet the fact remained that Liu Ergou had cured the old woman's paralysis, snatching her back from the brink of death. Such medical skill could no longer be explained by common sense. It wouldn't be an overstatement to call him a Divine Doctor descended from the heavens.
At this thought, Bai Xiuxiu fell into a contemplative silence, momentarily at a loss for what to do. She needed time to think it all through.
Watching Bai Xiuxiu sink into thought, Liu Ergou smiled faintly. "It looks like you've figured out what I want."
"But I should remind you not to get the wrong idea. This is for your treatment. Without my help, your condition is incurable. Your constitution is unique, and only I can cure you."
"What do you mean?" Bai Xiuxiu's brow furrowed, her face a mask of disbelief.
Seeing her reaction, Liu Ergou remained unruffled, his demeanor as calm as ever. "Tsk, why would I lie to you?"
"To be frank, your body has a Yin-Cold constitution. Even if I were to expel the cold Qi from your body, it would eventually invade again. Under normal circumstances, that might be manageable, but if you were to get pregnant, you would certainly have a miscarriage! But, if you do as I say, the result will be entirely different!"
As he spoke, a knowing smile spread across Liu Ergou's face.
"Of course, the final decision is up to you. I won't say any more on the matter."
After saying this, Liu Ergou fell silent once more, simply watching Bai Xiuxiu as she sat opposite him.
Liu Ergou had made his case perfectly clear. All that remained was for Bai Xiuxiu to overcome her indecision. Honestly, Bai Xiuxiu was tempted by Liu Ergou's proposal, but her pride held her back, leaving her wavering. Yet, the thought of his unparalleled medical skill was a powerful lure.
Torn by her conflicting emotions, Bai Xiuxiu finally made a decision. She stood up, took a deep breath, and faced Liu Ergou with a serious expression. "Liu Ergou, are you absolutely sure you're not deceiving me?"
Liu Ergou replied calmly, "I might lie to you about money or other things, but when it comes to medicine, I have no desire to deceive anyone. I am a doctor, and I have my own code of ethics. Do you understand?"
Liu Ergou's words were so blunt that Bai Xiuxiu couldn't possibly misunderstand. With that in mind, she nodded in agreement.
"If what you say is true, then I agree!" she said. "To be honest, this is the first time I've ever heard of such a treatment method. I'm actually... a little excited!"
As she spoke, Bai Xiuxiu extended her delicate, pink tongue and suggestively licked her lips. The sight sent a jolt of heat through Liu Ergou.
He had to admit, a forty-year-old woman was in a league of her own. She possessed a mature charm and an air that younger women simply lacked.
Liu Ergou chuckled, then stood and headed for the door. "Alright," he said over his shoulder, "since you agree, come with me. Let me be clear, this is to warm and nourish your body."
Liu Ergou was telling the truth, but his words took on an entirely different meaning in Bai Xiuxiu's ears. Nevertheless, she said nothing more and simply nodded. She then followed Liu Ergou out of the reception room.
As the two of them entered the main hall, they found Fu Ya coming down the stairs alone.
When Fu Ya saw Bai Xiuxiu, she couldn't resist mocking her. "Well, well, if it isn't the Secretary's wife, Bai Xiuxiu! Why do you look like such a mess? A bit ragged, aren't we? What happened, did you get a beating at home? Tsk, tsk. How tragic. But you had it coming. Who told you to offend someone you couldn't afford to?" A mocking smile played on Fu Ya's lips as she spoke.
By now, however, Bai Xiuxiu was immune to such taunts. She glanced at Fu Ya's sneer without any change in her expression, not even deigning to give her a second look before continuing to follow quietly behind Liu Ergou.
Seeing the silent Bai Xiuxiu, Fu Ya grew bored and decided to drop it.
Liu Ergou turned to her. "Sister Fu Ya, you should head back first. I just remembered I have something to take care of. I'll find you after I'm done."
Fu Ya froze on the spot. But after just a few seconds, her gaze flickered between Liu Ergou and Bai Xiuxiu, and realization dawned on her face, followed by a look of shock. She immediately leaned in close to Liu Ergou and whispered conspiratorially.
"Ergou, little brother, she's so old. Don't waste your time on her. Come on back with me, hmm? Aren't I much better than this old hag...?" As she spoke the last words, her voice lost its earlier confidence, trailing off with a hint of insecurity.
Hearing this, Liu Ergou burst out laughing before reaching out and giving Fu Ya's ample backside a firm slap.
"Alright, Sister Fu Ya, that's enough," he said. "You get it. It's just..."
Fu Ya cut him off before he could finish. "You don't have to say it. I understand, Ergou, little brother. I guess even though Bai Xiuxiu is a bit old, she's still got a good framework. You go for it!"
With that word of encouragement, Fu Ya practically skipped out of the police station without a backward glance, moving so fast that Liu Ergou didn't even have a chance to stop her.
Watching Fu Ya's disappearing back, Liu Ergou knew exactly what was going through her mind.
Who would have thought? The seemingly worldly Fu Ya could be scared of *me*. Now that's a rare sight!
