Chapter 116: Truly Deserved
Hearing the manager's words, Fu Ya just let out a cold laugh. It was too late for anything now. Since the deed was done, a price would have to be paid! She didn't even slow down, continuing to walk away, which filled the manager with desperation.
How had I managed to offend such an eminent figure?
The manager gritted his teeth, hurried back into the phone shop, found the most expensive phone, and dashed back out with it. The female salesclerk was utterly baffled. Just as she was about to say something, the manager turned and roared at her.
"Get out! You're fired!"
"Get as far away as possible, you condescending piece of trash!"
Hearing this, the salesclerk's heart skipped a beat. Could it be that I just offended someone I shouldn't have?
At this thought, she recalled the moment Fu Ya had stated her name. Suddenly, she understood.
I actually… Thinking this far, the salesclerk could no longer maintain her composure and collapsed to the floor, her eyes full of despair as she stared out of the shop.
Meanwhile, the manager, phone in hand, quickly caught up with Fu Ya.
"Miss Fu Ya," he said, his face a mask of deference, "you left this in the phone shop. I've brought it to you."
"And about that salesclerk, I've already dismissed her. Please, be the bigger person and forgive my mistake. Just spare me this once!" With that, the manager thrust the phone into Fu Ya's hands.
After hearing this, Fu Ya glanced down at the phone in his hand and let out another cold laugh.
"Heh, you don't really think I'm desperate for a phone, do you?"
"Do you think insulting my boyfriend and me is something you can just brush off?"
Listening to Fu Ya, the manager didn't dare to breathe.
In the end, it was Liu Ergou who spoke up.
"Alright, Sister Fu Ya, we're in a good mood today. Let's not spoil it over such a petty incident!"
Having said that, Liu Ergou turned to the manager and took the phone from his hands.
"I'm not taking this for free; I'll pay for it!" Liu Ergou said, taking out a bank card.
The manager was stunned for a moment. He then took the bank card, hurried back to the store to run the transaction, and rushed back again. Afterward, he respectfully returned the card to Liu Ergou. At this point, the reverence on the manager's face was entirely from the heart, without a trace of hypocrisy.
Seeing the manager's demeanor, Fu Ya snorted before leaving with Liu Ergou.
The manager watched them leave, then returned to the shop. He shot a disgusted look at the salesclerk who was still crumpled on the floor. "I told you to get lost! Stop being an eyesore!"
"You nearly got me in trouble with two people I can't afford to offend!"
With that, the manager stood alone behind the counter to begin his shift, leaving only the despairing salesclerk sitting there.
After the incident at the phone shop, Liu Ergou and Fu Ya no longer had the heart to continue shopping. After a brief discussion, they both decided to go home.
On their way back, however, they spotted someone they hadn't expected to see.
A woman dressed in designer clothes, wearing large sunglasses and a mask, was walking briskly into the distance. Then, with a swift turn, she darted into the nearest police station.
Seeing this, Fu Ya and Liu Ergou simultaneously exclaimed a name.
"Bai Xiuxiu?!"
Fu Ya looked puzzled. "Why would Bai Xiuxiu be here? What's she doing at the police station?"
Liu Ergou shrugged.
"No idea, but what does it have to do with us? Let's just head back. Shopping with you is exhausting, Sister Fu Ya!"
However, Fu Ya completely ignored him. She touched her chin and began to mutter to herself.
"Although it's none of our business, I'm curious. I'm really curious what that annoying woman Bai Xiuxiu is doing at the police station!"
As she said this, Fu Ya turned to Liu Ergou, a mischievous grin spreading across her face.
Sensing trouble, Liu Ergou thought about making a run for it, but Fu Ya grabbed his arm in a vise-like grip.
"Heh heh heh, little brother Er Gou," she said slyly, "since we're both free anyway, why not go take a look?"
"We've got plenty of time!"
Before Liu Ergou could even nod, Fu Ya was already dragging him towards the police station.
Despair washed over Liu Ergou's heart. Do we really have to get involved in this?
Soon, Fu Ya and Liu Ergou entered the police station. As soon as they were through the door, they ran right into the chief.
The chief was surprised to see them and was about to greet them when Fu Ya stopped him.
"Uncle Zheng, keep your voice down. I want to ask you, what's Bai Xiuxiu doing here?"
Hearing her question, Chief Zheng paused for a moment, then gave a wry smile.
"What else would she be doing? She's here to file a report, obviously. It's not like she came to have tea!"
Hearing this, Fu Ya stomped her foot.
"Uncle Zheng!" she called out in a pouting tone.
"I mean, what is Bai Xiuxiu filing a report about?"
Chief Zheng chuckled. "Hahaha, I was just teasing you."
Leaning in, he lowered his voice and whispered, "Bai Xiuxiu came to report a case of domestic violence."
"Sigh, if it were an ordinary person, it would be easy to handle. But what are we supposed to do in this situation? Investigate Secretary Duan?"
"What a joke!"
Upon hearing this, a grin blossomed on Fu Ya's face.
"Hmph. So that woman Bai Xiuxiu finally had it coming. Serves her right for making things difficult for my little brother Er Gou!"
She then found a place to sit, ready to watch the show.
Meanwhile, Chief Zheng turned his gaze to Liu Ergou. I wanted to connect with him at last night's banquet but didn't get the chance. I was just wondering how I'd get an opportunity, and now one has walked right through the door.
Chief Zheng immediately said to Liu Ergou, "Divine Doctor, hello. I wanted to get your contact information at the gathering last night, but you left so quickly I didn't have the chance."
"Would it be convenient to exchange contact information now?"
Being called "Divine Doctor" stunned Liu Ergou. It took him several seconds to register it. Looking at Chief Zheng, he couldn't help but get lost in thought.
Just a few days ago, I was an ordinary village doctor. Yet now, the chief of police is calling me Divine Doctor. I can't help but marvel at the whims of fate! Of course, I know very well that I have my great-grandfather to thank for everything I have today.
