He told how they had found vampires in the basement, how their weapons had easily slaughtered the vampires, and how they had finally met Ellen Nosferatu in the castle.

The key point was Ellen Nosferatu and the negotiation between Vito and her.

Ellen Nosferatu, originally named Ellen Hutter, was the wife of a real estate agent in the town of Winsberg in the 1830s. Known for her beauty, she became famous throughout the town.

One day, her husband, Thomas Hutter, received a business proposal from Count Orlok, a Romanian nobleman who wanted to buy a castle in Germany. The castle in Winsberg fit his needs perfectly.

Because the payment for the deal was so generous, Thomas didn't hesitate and quickly traveled from Germany to Romania to meet Count Orlok.

What Thomas didn't know was that Count Orlok was not human, but a high-ranking vampire. His true name was Nosferatu, an ancient monster who had lived for centuries and whose lineage could be traced back to the infamous Vlad III, also known as Dracula or Vlad the Impaler.

At first, Nosferatu just wanted to buy a castle in Germany. But when he saw a photo of Ellen on her husband's pocket watch, he developed other intentions.

While vampires fed on blood and possessed supernatural abilities and various weaknesses, in other ways they were not so different from humans. Like humans, they were driven by emotions, including lust. As a vampire, Nosferatu shared this trait. After seeing Ellen's image, he became infatuated, like most men.

He immediately drained Thomas of blood, then came to Winsberg, turned Ellen into a vampire, and kept her as his personal prize. To keep her from feeling lonely, Nosferatu even used dark magic to turn the entire town into low-level vampires, making most of the townspeople his servants.

However, turning direct descendants into vampires was a difficult process for a high-ranking vampire. As a result, they often preferred to use magic to create lower-level vampires that were not as intelligent or powerful, but much easier to control and breed.

From that moment on, Ellen Hutter ceased to exist. In his place was the vampire bride, Ellen Nosferatu.

This was also the true cause of the plague that destroyed Winsberg over a century ago.

When Josh heard the name Nosferatu, he immediately realized what they were dealing with. There was an old and somewhat obscure vampire movie called Nosferatu based on the same character.

Josh knew this movie not because it was any good—after all, it was a 1922 black-and-white silent film, with crude scenes, props, costumes, acting, and plot from a 21st-century perspective.

But despite its poor quality, the movie was significant in film history as the first vampire movie ever made.

However, the events described by Vito don't match the plot of the movie at all.

In the movie, Nosferatu didn't kill Thomas, but locked him up, went after Ellen, and eventually allowed Thomas to escape. He used Ellen as bait, which caused Nosferatu to forget the rooster's crow, exposing him to the sunlight and causing him to die a violent death.

In the movie, Ellen still died, but the town was saved.

Of course, movies were just movies. What Vito said was real.

A powerful vampire like Nosferatu couldn't be easily killed by ordinary humans, nor would he let Thomas live after developing an obsession with Ellen—unless, of course, Nosferatu had a twisted fondness for her husband.

After turning Ellen into a vampire and keeping her as his personal prize, Nosferatu didn't stay long in Winsberg.

The vampire count enjoyed wandering, and his near-infinite lifespan and noble title allowed him to amass vast wealth. As a result, Nosferatu owned dozens of castles throughout Europe.

Most of Nosferatu's castles were concentrated in the Balkan countries, with a few scattered throughout other parts of Europe.

Each castle typically had one or two vampire brides, resulting in a very large harem system that made it impossible for Nosferatu to focus all of his attention on Ellen alone.

As long as Nosferatu wasn't around, Ellen had absolute control as the ruler of Winsberg. She could keep the vampires under her command from ruthlessly slaughtering humans; at most, they would secretly drink some blood.

Indeed, it was Ellen who was behind the incident at the Rhine Camp's women's barracks. The female prisoners had only been weakened by blood loss and hadn't died.

As for the five missing soldiers, it wasn't the vampires' fault.

They had just been unlucky enough to run into a group of werewolves trying to cause trouble for Ellen.

With vampires, it wasn't surprising that werewolves were involved. The enmity between vampires and werewolves was longstanding. While some high-ranking vampires kept werewolves as pets, most werewolves and vampires were enemies.

When Colonel Ward first sent troops to search the town, they found nothing because Ellen's vampires had deliberately avoided detection.

But when Hugh Jones arrived later, his luck wasn't so good. He collided head-on with Nosferatu, who had learned of the werewolf attack on Winsberg and had come to check on his beloved mistress.

"So you believe what Ellen Nosferatu said? That Hugh Jones was killed by Nosferatu?" After hearing Vito's story, Josh felt overwhelmed.

"Well, not completely, but it was clear that she was sincere. Besides, Hugh Jones didn't die. Lady Ellen gave him to me, but his situation is probably worse than death!" Vito said helplessly.

"What do you mean? What's worse than death?" Josh had a bad feeling creeping in.

"He was turned into a low level vampire by Nosferatu..." Vito hesitated before telling the truth.

Hearing this, Josh's and General Fletcher's hearts sank.

According to Vito's previous explanation, low-level vampires were just mindless creatures driven by their instincts with little intelligence.

Now that Hugh Jones had been transformed into this half-human, half-monster form, how could they return him to the Council?

"But Lady Ellen said there was a way to restore Hugh Jones to his full consciousness as a vampire!" Seeing the grim expressions on Josh and Fletcher's faces, Vito quickly added.

"What method?" General Fletcher asked first.

"She said if we give him the blood of a high-ranking vampire, he can regain full consciousness. But becoming a vampire... well, that's irreversible," Vito explained without hesitation.

"Haha, this Lady Ellen is probably trying to use us to deal with Nosferatu, right?" Josh suddenly laughed coldly.

He didn't care if Hugh Jones became a vampire. The real issue now was that Lady Ellen was clearly trying to use them to bring down Count Nosferatu.

Ellen may have been Nosferatu's bloodline, but that didn't mean she wouldn't entertain the idea of betraying her progenitor.

In many vampire stories and movies—Blade, Underworld, Twilight, and even Marvel Comics' Dracula—vampires often betrayed their masters.

After all, they had their own independent minds. Why should they be subservient?

Especially when there was already deep hatred between the two sides.

In the end, betrayal came down to power and strategy.

Ellen couldn't betray Nosferatu on her own. But when she saw the power of the Tesla Trooper Infantry, she probably changed her mind.

"But isn't this Lady Ellen thinking too simply? Since the blood of a high-ranking vampire can restore Hugh Jones' mind, why can't we use hers instead of Nosferatu's?" Josh said, a cold smile creeping across his face.

"But if we kill Lady Ellen, we'll still have to face Nosferatu's revenge, right? Wouldn't it be better to deal with Nosferatu directly?" Just as Josh was considering how to deal with Lady Ellen, Ophelia raised an important point that made Josh freeze.

Yes, killing Lady Ellen to get her blood would restore Hugh Jones' consciousness.

But Nosferatu wouldn't know of her betrayal.

If his mistress died suddenly, would he not seek revenge?

Josh felt a chill. This Lady Ellen had played a brilliant political game!
