Chapter 55: : Tomb Of a Taboo God [4]
Chen Fang kept breathing tirelessly, due to none of his punches hitting Xuan, who was leaping from trees to the ground, then back up.
For him, this wasn't a fight; he didn't attempt fighting back and was just toying with Chen Fang.
Chen Fang fell on his knees, frowning, then slammed his hands against the ground as tears burst from his eyes.
"I'm still weak. How am I going to kill all the dual users and avenge my mother if I can't even land a hit on a late martial?"
Chen Fang cried out. It was after seeing the anger wear off that Xuan jumped from the tree he was on, and the ground trembled as if an earthquake was happening.
But brief. "The mountain Goliath has found us! Everyone, hide!" Han Bai yelled, veins bulging out from his neck. His voice was so loud because he needed Xuan, who was a bit far from them, to hear.
The Goliath mountains were given the nickname because they loved the mountains. Not because they loved high places, but rather because it was far from noise.
Any slight noise and they would come after the source. Although at Divine Combustion Stage One, the demons weren't as fast as the humans.
All their cultivation was directed toward the strength they possessed, as they couldn't be as fast as humans at Divine Stage One.
Same with the humans, the strength the Goliath mountains possessed was far stronger than theirs.
"It was all your fault, you know," Sue Ninger said. She was hiding on the same tree as Xue Ming, who turned to look at her, feeling confused.
Sue Ming wasn't happy. "You said Xuan wouldn't be any trouble, but he made Chen Fang lose face and cry."
"What? No, it wasn't Xuan's—"
Before Xue Ming could complete her words, her trusted friend pushed her to the ground. She couldn't believe it.
As Xue Ming hit the ground with a very loud thud, the demons were alerted. After all, they were beneath the trees, looking for the students.
"Graaaaah!" A mountain Goliath yelled as if someone had cut off its tail. It ran toward Xue Ming, with every step shaking the core of the ground.
Xue Ming, who was still caught in the middle of bewilderment, couldn't do anything. The beast was already in front of her, raising its four arms, ready to crush her.
Then boom!
The ground cracked beneath her, forming a very wide web crack. "Han Bai, now!" Xuan yelled. Xue Ming could hear his voice as if he was talking straight into her ears.
But Xuan was in front of her, covering her with his back, and as he yelled Han Bai's name, his friend yelled for the beast to know his location—precisely the location of the alchemist student.
Before they looked again, Xuan had picked Xue Ming by her lap and leaped to the sky, with Han Bai leaping behind him.
As they left, sounds of screams were heard from the alchemist students, along with the roaring of the beast. But Xuan and Han Bai were able to escape.
Thud.
They landed very far from the big tree route. Han Bai was chuckling. "If any of them survive, we're cooked," he said.
Xuan dropped Xue Ming on her feet, asking her if she was okay. She just stared at him and let her body hug him tight as she muffled,
"Thank—thank you, Xuan."
"I can't let you die, ya know. You're my responsibility," said Xuan. The words really made Xue Ming feel a little tingle.
"Alright, how about we find that tomb before they do, if in any case they survived," was what Han Bai said, stealing their attention.
Xuan nodded. And with that, Han Bai led the way to a safer route.
On the way, they came across a few low-tier demons, like little four-armed red monkeys and steel fang packs of hungry wolves.
But that wasn't something their teamwork couldn't handle. They effortlessly slaughtered the beasts in their path.
"Dude, did you see how I spun and bashed the monkey's head with my fist?" Han Bai said jovially. Overall, he noticed his two self-claimed friends were holding hands.
Han Bai wasn't looking at the road, and as he was walking backward, he failed to see the hole. "Woooah!" Han Bai yelled, falling straight in with his echoing voice.
Xuan let go of Xue Ming and ran toward the hole. There he saw Han Bai land on his butt. "Guys, come on in, I think I found the tomb," Han Bai raised his voice with hands beside his mouth.
"I'll go first," said Xuan. After he said that, he jumped inside the hole and landed perfectly, just like Xue Ming.
They landed on a place that seemed to be the high ground, so they had to walk down. They saw nothing—there were no treasures.
The place would have been dark if it wasn't for the hole that emitted sunlight, so the tomb wasn't entirely bright.
"Fuck," Han Bai cursed. "So that's why they needed a female," he muttered to himself, not wanting Xuan or Xue Ming to hear that.
He saw an encrypted message on the wall. The treasures would only appear once the dual technique was used. Han Bai sighed, walking away from the message.
The tomb was very old. It was ancient after all, with statues on the right and left sides. The statue of the Taboo God was on the left, and the right was his lover stretching her hand.
"Dude, where are the treasures?" Xuan asked.
There were two passages beneath the two statues. Only Han Bai knew what they were. "Um, you see, I'm gonna need you guys to go inside those passages."
"I asked where the treasures are," Xuan cut him off, evidently pissed off.
"Yes, calm down, Xuan. That's where I'm getting at. There's a lever in both passages. It needs to be pulled so the ground will split in two. The treasure is just right beneath us."
Xue Ming looked at Xuan. No, she was looking to see if there was also a passage underneath the Taboo God's statue. And there was.
"How do you know that?"
"Xuan, now's not the time to doubt me. Trust me, I know what you want, and you'll get it once you both step into the passages and pull those levers."
Xuan and Xue Ming still had doubts. They stood for a moment before Xue Ming acted and began walking toward her passage.
It was after she took a step that Xuan moved toward his passage.
However, as he walked through the wall door, Xuan saw Xue Ming—who had undoubtedly walked the other way—about fifty meters away from him.
So how was she here?
Just when they thought that was the only confusing thing, they were now trapped inside the confined tomb together, with a blue flame etched on the wall.
Xuan and Xue Ming were trapped together.
"This is what he wanted, right? Xuan wouldn't kill me if he manages to come out, right? He wants to cultivate with the princess, right? That's what he wants," Han Bai said to himself.
Staring at the sealed passages, he would just have to wait for it all to happen because there was no other way they'd leave that tomb.
