Chapter 53: : : Tomb Of a Taboo God [2]
"Body refining leaf, bone strengthening pill," Xuan counted the items they had gotten for the dual medicine he needed to concoct.
They were in the market, and everyone seemed friendly with Xue Ming. Perhaps too friendly. Every store she walked past, they waved.
"You've named everything on the item list, except the cathedral," said Xue Ming.
"How did you know I needed that?"
That was the last thing they needed. But the cathedral wasn't on the list. It was where all the items would be mixed in.
Without it, concocting the medicine wouldn't be possible. "Oh, I just guessed," said Xue Ming. She didn't want Xuan knowing she learned a bit of alchemy because of the alchemist exam.
"Yes, but I won't be using a cathedral," said Xuan. The cathedral was really expensive, so back in the library sect, they didn't have one.
Instead, they learned another method, giving the same results as the cathedral.
"I won't be concocting the medicine today though, I still haven't gone through the technique bookmark," Xuan sighed.
"Hey, how about I give you a tour around the capital?" Xue Ming said. Xuan looked at her for a while and thought, what could possibly go wrong?
After all, it was just a quick tour.
It was now approaching midnight, and Zhao Lan hadn't seen Xuan. She sat on the rectangular stairwells at the entrance of the palace, folding herself because of the cold.
Winter was yet to be over. She only wondered how the guards stationed outside managed with the cold.
Soon after the wait, Zhao Lan saw Xuan approaching the palace. She was about to call out his name, but seeing Xue Ming's head now appearing, Zhao Lan didn't speak.
She saw them chatting, and Xuan did not notice Zhao Lan until they had walked to Xue Ming's deceased mother's statue.
Xuan stopped walking, same with Xue Ming. It was because Zhao Lan was staring at them with an unfriendly look.
Without saying anything, Zhao Lan left. And Xuan quickly followed behind her.
"Zhao Lan, is something wrong?" Xuan asked. He could clearly see she was pissed off.
But why? He didn't take Zhao Lan for the type to be jealous, because she accepted Li Feng having sex and sharing Xuan with her.
"What's wrong, Xuan? Why would you go around cultivating with a schoolgirl, and on top of that, you ended up coming late?"
"Oh, that... it was complicated, Zhao Lan, I swear," said Xuan. He tried explaining things but then asked a question instead. "How did you know though?"
"That I won't tell you."
Unless Zhao Lan was somehow spying on him, or rumors spread like a woman's leg in the capital. It hadn't even been a day yet.
Xue Ming stood beside the statue, watching them talk. She could clearly hear everything, and no one told her twice before she left unannounced.
Realizing Zhao Lan didn't want her there, she had to leave feeling sad. Not because of Zhao Lan, but because of Xuan leaving her.
"You're freezing, what happened?" Xuan asked her. But Zhao Lan did not respond.
It was winter anyway; she was expected to be cold, but this was unusual, and she wouldn't tell Xuan. Zhao Lan dismissed herself and walked away inside the house.
That night, Zhao Lan divided the space on the bed with the pillows. And the wind got heavy that night.
The wind blowing inside the room made her feel even colder, and as Xuan was about to stand up to shut the windows, Zhao Lan grabbed his arm.
She was still sleeping while hugging his arm tight. "Woah, you're freezing, Zhao Lan." But she couldn't hear him. Since he couldn't stand up, Xuan shut the windows with a gesture of his fingers.
"How did I end up loving a pervert child like you? I'm even older than you are," was what Xuan heard the sleeping Zhao Lan say.
The barricades dividing the bed were now gone, and Zhao Lan was resting her head on top of Xuan's chest, trying to feel warm.

Next day, Xuan was walking his way to the academy with the lots of students on the mountains. Then he heard someone calling his name.
Han Bai dodged the students to make sure he ran to Xuan. However, reaching the place he wanted, he didn't see Xuan, not even ahead.
"Where'd he go so quick?"
What Han Bai did not know was that Xuan was hiding just behind him. "The hell do I always attract weirdos," Xuan muttered.
However, when classes began, Xuan couldn't hide from Han Bai, who made sure he sat next to him.
Although it gave Han Bai discomfort because almost all the girls were looking at them—no, looking at Xuan.
"Xi Ning, did you change cream?" a girl asked.
"Why would I change my cream? Red berries lotion is the best, would never," Xi Ning replied.
The girls sitting beside her looked at themselves. There was another way to be sure it took effect. "Xi Ning, did you get a breakthrough?" they asked.
It was known among them that Xi Ning was still at early Martial Realm stage 03, but after cultivating with Xuan yesterday, Xi Ning noticed the changes.
It normally takes three to five times of cultivation with other men to get a breakthrough or appear more beautiful with her skin.
But Xuan's vanilla was a cheat code. She was now at mid Martial Realm stage five, and her skin was glowing better than yesterday's.
"No, there wasn't any breakthrough," Xi Ning lied. "And yes, I did change my skin care, to blueberries lotion."
Xi Ning had her reasons for lying. One was so her friends wouldn't look like her, and the second was because she didn't want to share Xuan.
At least not with them. The girls looked at themselves. Could be true and a lie—they couldn't tell. So they just agreed.
"Hey, remember me from the other day?"
Xuan sighed. "Han Bai?"
"Great, you remembered me. You know I said something about knowing how to track treasures? I just found one."
"Yea, I've got a pretty tight schedule today," said Xuan. He wasn't lying; today was the day he planned on either reading the whole technique bookmark or concocting the medicine.
However, when he heard the location of the so-called treasure, his attention left the teacher.
"Taboo God?" Xuan repeated, and Han Bai confirmed he was right by nodding. "Okay, I could check it out with you."
"Really?" Han Bai was very happy, and as if diving, wanting to hug Xuan, he got his face slamming against Xuan's palm.
After class ended, Han Bai took Xuan to the forest. He warned Xuan about their consciousness because this was the outskirts of the capital.
In other words, demons could be lurking nearby. "If we get there before I lose interest, I'm picking first," said Xuan.
Just in case something valuable was left behind. The word Taboo God kept circling around his head. If there was a booby trap, it would be based on dual cultivation.
"Ah okay, no problem, that works for me," Han Bai replied.
Xuan wouldn't want to get stuck in the tomb and unable to leave unless he had sex with the next person in it.
The moment Xuan heard a sound, he leaped up into the trees, skillfully hiding himself while Han Bai freaked out.
There was nowhere for him to run. "Oh shit," Han Bai cursed.
"Eerr?" the sound groaned. Lucky for him, it wasn't a demon lurking around; it was a few of the academy boys.
Their group was mixed with two girls and six boys. From the color of the uniform, they all happened to be alchemists.
And only one of the girls wasn't putting on white. She was in black, like a dual academy student—it was Xue Ming.
"The hell is the lost wolf doing here? Who were you talking to?"
As of now, Han Bai had his back against the huge tree while staring at the students. "Uuuh, nothing... no one."
"Eer? We heard you talking to someone. Are you trying to deceive me?"
"Ooh, I wouldn't do that, little wolf. Boss here doesn't like to be deceived."
On top of that, Han Bai noticed they weren't first years like he was. Apart from Xue Ming, the alchemist students were year three.
He noticed the red-haired girl with Xue Ming—Sue Ninger—won last year's hottest female alchemist contest.
So these guys should be around Divine Cultivation stage. He wouldn't want to mess with them. But before he could say anything—
Xuan jumped down from the tree.
"Xuan?" Xue Ming quickly spoke out. Even he was surprised to see her here with alchemist students.
"You know one of these wolves?" the boss asked. "Probably you're here for taboo treasure?"
"Hahaha, if that's the case, and they didn't carry a female with them, maybe they don't know then... hahahaha," the boys in the alchemist group began laughing.
Xuan looked at Han Bai for answers, but it seemed the boy was as confused as he was.
"Tie them up."
Having heard that, Xue Ming rushed towards the front and spread her arms, standing in between them and Xuan.
"You can't do that," she raised her voice.
The one called the boss among them stood looking at Xue Ming; he sighed. He had only allowed her to join them because he had a crush on Sue.
In all honesty, the boss would be seen dead joining hands with a dual student. If Sue wasn't friends with Xue Ming, he wouldn't have let her come.
Even though her father was the emperor, Xue Ming wasn't anything that special to them all. Her father had a very high social status, and so did theirs.
"See what I said, Sue? A black sheep will always be a black sheep," said the boss. He used this opportunity to ditch Xue Ming out of their group.
Sue Ninger couldn't look at her friend.
They walked away, leaving the three of them. Xuan, the unspoken male, started whistling. "So we needed a female, uh, well, here's one," said Xuan.
To him, the whole situation was meant to happen by fate. Now, he just needed to know why they needed a female.
