Chapter 227: 227: Giant Warrior Pirates
"That island ahead is Little Garden... huh? What's that?"
Feeling a little embarrassed by Vivienne's overwhelming presence, Vice Admiral Dalmatian tried to steer the topic elsewhere.
But just as he pointed to the island now slowly appearing on the horizon, he noticed something strange on the beach.
"Vice Admiral Dalmatian! Giant Tribe spotted on the island ahead!"
Before Dalmatian could get a clear look, the lookout on the warship had already raised the alarm.
To the Navy, the Giant Tribe was a particularly unique group. Among them were marines who had joined the Navy to fight for justice, as well as pirates who used their massive size to plunder and kill without remorse.
When dealing with issues involving giants, the Navy also had to take into account Elbaf, the Giant Kingdom known as the "strongest nation in the world."
Because of this, unless the giant pirate was notorious, the Navy typically chose to turn a blind eye to avoid conflict with the giants.
Unfortunately, the giants currently seen on the beach weren't the type that could be ignored.
Dorry and Brogy!
Even a hundred years ago, both of them had bounties of 100 million berries!
While a century would span generations for humans, to the giants it was barely a third of their lifespan.
So even now, a hundred years later, their bounties had never been revoked.
"That's the situation, more or less…"
Vice Admiral Dalmatian came aboard Vice Admiral Vivienne's warship and briefly explained the identities of the two giant pirates inhabiting Little Garden. Then he looked toward Vivienne a bit hesitantly.
Usually, the Navy avoided sending giant marines to subdue giant pirates. It wasn't because they doubted the loyalty of those marines, but rather to prevent any misunderstandings with Elbaf — to avoid giving the impression the Navy was trying to turn giants against their own.
Some giant marines didn't mind this, but others cared deeply. Even as soldiers, they refused to raise a hand against their fellow giants.
Dalmatian knew full well that he couldn't handle two infamous pirates at once on his own. So he could only seek Vice Admiral Vivienne's opinion.
Under normal circumstances, pirates with a bounty of 100 million berries wouldn't pose a threat to a Vice Admiral.
But Dorry and Brogy were pirates from a century ago — and back then, a 100 million bounty wasn't the same as it is today.
Dalmatian felt confident in a one-on-one fight, but two-on-one was another matter. If Vivienne wouldn't help, they'd have to wait for reinforcements from another Vice Admiral.
"Let Hina handle it. She hasn't fought against any giants yet."
Before Viviann could make a decision, Rear Admiral Hina stepped forward and volunteered herself.
Although the Marine Headquarters didn't strictly require Giant soldiers to fight against Giant pirates, those who chose to avoid battle at such times would inevitably be labeled as untrustworthy.
Hina, who had a good relationship with Viviann, naturally didn't want to see that happen.
With her strength, even if she couldn't defeat either Dorry or Brogy, holding one of them off wouldn't be a problem.
Once Vice Admiral Dalmatian finished off his opponent, they could gang up two-on-one to take down the remaining Giant pirate.
"What nonsense are you saying? I'm not giving up any credit for this!"
Viviann eagerly cracked her knuckles in anticipation. Of course she understood what they were worried about—but she didn't care one bit about those unspoken rules.
To most humans, all Giants were lumped together, perhaps separated only into those from Elbaf and those from elsewhere.
But in reality, Giants never had a true concept of nationhood. Even the so-called "World's Mightiest Nation" Elbaf was, in essence, just a large human-style village—except that it was populated by Giants.
Viviann didn't even give face to Elbaf's prince. Why would she show any to other Giants?
For the battle-hardened Giant race, challenging powerful opponents was an instinct embedded in their blood.
Especially since Viviann had grown up hearing stories about Dorry and Brogy, the legendary "heroes." Now that she had the chance to take them down herself, she could barely wait.
"Then let's prepare for battle. We're going to arrest Dorry and Brogy! I'll take on Dorry, and I'll leave Brogy to you."
Vice Admiral Dalmatian smiled as he spoke. At that moment, he truly acknowledged Viviann's strength—though of course, he wasn't about to hand over the honor of being Admiral Kizaru's top protégé.
"No! They're both mine! You just stay back and provide support. Leave the rest to me!"
Viviann declared without hesitation. Crushing one legendary "hero" underfoot was glorious—but crushing two at once? That was a legend in the making.
As for the supposed symbolic importance of the Giant Warrior Pirates to the Giant race—what did that have to do with her? She wasn't descended from any of them, and none of her friends wanted to join their ranks.
To Gerd, they might be heroes. But to Viviann, they were just two pirates with bounties over 100 million berries.
Meanwhile, on the beach of Little Garden, Dorry and Brogy—who were in the middle of building a raft to set out to sea—had already spotted the two Marine ships approaching from offshore.
Especially Viviann's flagship, which was several times larger than Dalmatian's beside it. There was no hiding it.
"Hey! Dorry, do you see that?"
'Red Ogre' Brogy slung a stone axe over his shoulder. Since their original weapons had long since broken, they could now only rely on improvised replacements.
"Yeah, I see it, Brogy. That's the Navy, isn't it?"
'Blue Ogre' Dorry, who didn't even have an axe, was gripping a sharpened tree branch, using it as a makeshift "longsword."
"Talk about luck! Just when we were about to set sail, the Navy shows up to send us off. Looks like we won't need that raft after all!"
Brogy chuckled. Over the centuries, the Giant Warrior Pirates had countless run-ins with the Navy. In fact, it was because of the activities of giant pirates like them that the World Government and Navy began to consider training giant marines.
Unfortunately, giants were naturally freedom-loving and hated being restrained. It wasn't until about a hundred years ago that Sister Carmel founded the "House of Lambs" and began secretly trafficking people that the first giant marines finally appeared.
"Gwahahaha! You idiot, Brogy! Navy ships can't even hold our weight—what's the point of stealing them?"
Dorry burst into laughter. Even after a hundred years, these two captains of the Giant Warrior Pirates still didn't take the Navy seriously.
"You're the idiot! Didn't you see how massive that ship is? It could easily hold both of us at once, Dorry!"
Brogy shouted back. Dorry rubbed his eyes and took a closer look at the Navy vessels, then begrudgingly admitted Brogy had a point.
"Gwahahaha! Then let's snatch it! I've been itching to see what today's Navy is made of!"
Dorry scratched his head awkwardly, but still laughed heartily.
The giants' confidence wasn't baseless—despite their known presence on Little Garden, very few dared to challenge them. Those who did never returned, and eventually, even the Navy seemed to forget they existed.
Only now, with Vice Admirals Dalmatian and Vivian arriving at Little Garden, had their century-long hideaway finally been disturbed.
"Wait a sec! One of those Navy ships is moving in toward us!"
Brogy shouted in surprise. But what shocked him wasn't the approach itself—it was the two towering figures standing on the ship.
"You've gotta be kidding... Don't tell me our comrades have already taken that ship?"
Dorry squinted. Like Brogy, he saw the figures of Vivian and Gulz standing tall and unhidden.
Vivian was ready to throw down, eager to defeat these legendary "heroes" of the giants. Gulz, on the other hand, was there as a fan—she'd grown up idolizing the Giant Warrior Pirates and just wanted to meet their captains.
No wonder Dorry and Brogy were confused. In their time, it was common for giants to become pirates. But the idea of giant marines only began after they left the Giant Warrior Pirates and began their prolonged duel.
"Blue Ogre Dorry! Red Ogre Brogy! It's an honor to finally meet you!"
Before the ship even reached the shore, Vivian couldn't hold herself back. She leapt from the ship and landed on Little Garden's beach.
Gulz lacked Vivian's jumping strength, but the seawater's depth was manageable, so she simply jumped in and began wading ashore.
"Oh! They're female giants!"
Brogy exclaimed in amazement. Just like with humans, female pirates among giants were rare. Even during the Giant Warrior Pirates' peak, there were no female giants among their ranks.
"Gwahaha! You two came looking for us? Not bad! You've even got the guts to hijack Navy ships! Why not join the Giant Warrior Pirates?"
Dorry said in admiration. Spotting how "young" Vivian looked, he even began wondering if she might be the daughter of an "old friend."
After all, the giant race wasn't very populous, and their birth rate was low. There was a decent chance he knew her parents.
"Lord Dorry! Lord Brogy! I'm Gulz! I grew up listening to tales of you and the Giant Warrior Pirates!"
Gurz waved excitedly as she ran through the shallows. Even though Vivian had "pressured" her into joining the Navy, Gulz's original dream had always been to follow in the footsteps of the Giant Warrior Pirates.
