Chapter 38: New Threat Rises
"What the hell is this?"
The fat young man stood next to Makim and asked, with some confusion.
"The key."
Makim replied with a cold tone. He was holding a golden key.
"I know it's a key. I can see it. But what's this for? I mean, we are not opening some kind of lock, are we?"
"Besides, you used Three Dimensional Space Creation Formation to create this key from that place. Why do we need it? I don't understand this plan of yours."
The fat young man kept asking.
Makim rolled his eyes and said.
"If you could understand, I wouldn't be using this plan. Have you placed the markings?"
The fat young man nodded his head and said.
"I have finished it. The four markings, as you asked. But seriously, why would you need those specific markings?"
"From what I can see, those markings have some activation rune. Didn't we come here to destroy this sect?"
"Why are we doing so many things? Can't we just let the Heavenly Puppet Sect invade this place?"
"No, we can't."
A voice came from the side.
When they turned around, they saw the First Elder walking towards him. He looked like an old man with a hunched back and wrinkled face.
The fat young man's expression turned sour as he said.
"But why not? I can easily destroy this sect. Just give me ten minutes."
The first elder frowned as he looked at Makim and said.
"Why did you let him transform into such a useless person?"
Makim showed a bitter smile and said.
"I underestimated the influence of their personality after using their blood and soul. Fortunately, I didn't do it."
The First Elder nodded his head and said.
"Don't worry, you will soon learn to adapt. This is your first transformation. The more you do it, the better you become."
The fat young man raised his hand and shook it vigorously before saying.
"I know, I know. What I don't know is why can't we use the Heavenly Puppet Sect to destroy this place? I am getting bored doing nothing."
The First Elder gave him a displeased look at his attitude. But Makim hurriedly spoke for him.
"Idiot, did you forget every lesson you learned in the academy about our history?"
Hearing that, the young fat man spoke.
"No, no, I remember. But this is probably our weakest enemy. It's not even our proper enemy. With the death of that dragon, who can do anything to us in this continent?"
The First Elder sighed heavily and said.
"That's what we thought when we first started the war twenty thousand years ago."
"That's when we almost took over the Central Continent alongside the other four continents."
"Remember, in this continent, they don't even know the existence of the Central Continent except for those at the highest realm."
"That's because the power of this continent is too weak. We could've easily captured it..."
"I sense a but coming its way." The young fat man grumbled.
The First Elder glared at him and continued.
"But, we lost miserably. Our number was the highest among any other races in this world, but we lost so miserably that our number dwindled less than this sect."
"At that moment, we realized why we lost. We never properly used our advantage."
"Using others' powers for battle isn't the proper way. It is just a way to show that their power is superior to ours."
"Our true strength lies in infiltration, assassinations, and influence. And, that's exactly what we need to do this time."
"So, if you don't help your brother do his job, I am gonna kick your ass."
The fat man grumbled.
"My senses weren't wrong."
"Don't worry, Dad! My job is almost finished. I have already laid out Spirit Activation Formation."
"Now, we just need to wait for their arrival and activate it."
Makim said as he stood up with the key. The golden key slowly transformed into a cube.
"Wow! The key turned into a cube." The young fat man exclaimed in a surprised tone.
Makim and his father shook their heads. This was the greatest disadvantage of their transformation.
While it would generally give them more information, powers, and abilities, it would also make them emotionally vulnerable to the real person behind the mask.
"By the way, Dad, have you finished checking the sect? If we find out who has the inheritance, we wouldn't even need to place this trap."
Makim asked.
The First Elder shook his head and said.
"If it were that easy, we wouldn't have a problem killing Wang Clan's member. Remember, we did our best, but we still let a fish out of the net."
"That almost cost us to reveal our identity. That woman was quite strong. Fortunately, we were prepared enough to create the Heavenly Puppet Sect."
"Two things happened one after another. Makim died, and that woman came to this sect, obviously to meet her child."
"That means her child has gotten the inheritance. This is a big problem for us. So much so that we have to take this sect out much earlier."
"Wait, Makim is dead? I thought he had some other job to do." The young fat man clutched his chest and asked.
It seemed like the emotions of the real man behind his transformation were truly hurt.
"Idiot! Makim was just a human. He can't use transformation like us. His only job was to get the inheritance." Makim coldly replied.
"Huh? Is that so?"
The young fat man immediately calmed and rubbed his chin with some thinking as he said.
"I thought he adhered to the spirit of 'Fake it Till You Make It'. I have never seen a human act so close to us before."
The First Elder nodded his head and said.
"Makim was first of his kind, not bothered by the differences of the race but only restricted by the talent."
"Then again, if not for that, he wouldn't be desperate enough to join us. So, I think his circumstances led him to join us."
Makim spoke with a serious tone.
"He will live in our hearts. Even though he is dead, I will keep this face forever. I want to kill the man who killed him."
The First Elder nodded his head.
"You are right to take the revenge, but we don't know who he is. Physique doesn't help us identify him without its activation."
"Only after awakening the Dragon Bloodline, he would be able to produce Dragon Qi that can help us identify him."
"Unfortunately, that hasn't happened yet. So, we are in the dark."
"Huh? I thought we were under the sun."
The fat young man pointed at the sky and spoke.
Makim grabbed him by the neck and said.
"Enough! Now I am sure you are just messing with us, Karim."
Karim tried to put on a struggling look as he waved his hands and head continuously, but eventually gave up.
"Sorry!"
His apology finally helped him. Makim placed him on the ground and turned towards the first Elder.
"Two more days, right?"
The First Elder nodded.
"Yeah, the Sect Leader has already called everyone."
"Good! We can proceed with our plan. From that day onward, there will be no Golden Dragon Sect or its inheritance."
Karim suddenly raised his hand and asked.
"What about us? Don't we plan to get the inheritance as well?"
"His inheritance isn't that important. At least, not as important as the information. I just got the information from the Heavenly Puppet Sect."
The First Elder looked absolutely serious as he spoke.
"Joseph is dead. That woman killed him after two days of battle. My brother had to get involved just to keep the Heavenly Puppet Sect alive."
"We don't know how she got so much stronger in these years, but her realm is said to have reached the peak of the King's Realm."
"It won't take her long enough to reach Saint Realm. Once that happens, we won't be able to kill her son."
"So, we must do it as soon as possible. Understand?"
Makim waved his hands and said.
"Don't worry, as long as that boy doesn't have Dragon Qi, he won't live. Our plan is absolutely perfect."
"Good!"
"Hey, I am feeling hungry. Do you want to go grab something?"
....
Outside the Golden Dragon Sect,
"Finally, I am back."
Ken released a deep breath and walked towards the gate.
"Stop!"
When he was getting closer, the guards immediately called upon him and shouted.
"Who are... Wait, aren't you Ken Tenshi?"
"Senior Brother, what happened? The guards aren't supposed to be this strict, right?" Ken was dumbfounded by that previous roar.
His sect guards had never reacted in such a way. They were always polite.
"Junior Brother, something serious has happened while you were away."
"Currently, the Sect is in lockdown, and every member they can contact has been asked to return."
The guard spoke with a heavy tone.
"It's that serious, huh?"
Even Ken got serious when he heard that.
