Chapter 170: All In.

So Rewind is the only omega amongst this group of avengers. The rest are alphas and betas. Not that they are weaker than him. In fact, most of them are stronger than him.

That might remain the same even if he advances to the professional league and gains more abilities. After all, the founder himself is an alpha. Yet, an alpha is able to lead many Omegas.

This fact fueled their confidence in the success of their mission. But many others weren't so confident.

Sky was at the top of the skyscraper that serves as their headquarters. She was here for a meeting with the founder. After all, the top floor is the office of the founder.

She has just been told some shocking news. She didn't believe it. But she didn't think it was respectful to doubt the founder. So she changed her line of questioning.

She asked, "Are you sure it will work, sir?"

The old man replied. "It will work."

Then he said, "I know what you are worried about. But when it will work and it will all be worth it. When that time comes, we will count on you."

She nodded and became determined.

The reaction of the Caped Crusaders Hero Society is the norm amongst the many hero societies when it came to the Count's death. They chose to take a step back to assess the situation.

This would have surely been different had it been Rewind that died. Rewind is also an omega, but he is weak. The Count, on the other hand, is supposed to be immortal. If it had been Thorin that killed him, his death would have been understandable.

They would have been accepting of the fact that Thorin had taken advantage of the one weakness that the Count possessed. They would have put together a strike team to kill Thorin.

But according to Rewind, it wasn't Thorin that had attacked. It was a super that could grow diamond spikes all over his body.

If Thorin wasn't the one to kill the Count, they must first know who is responsible for it before making a move. So the hero societies ramped up their branches in New London and asked them to investigate at all costs.

They sent some trackers and investigators to help with the search for the Count's killer, but they didn't send anyone to apprehend the killer yet. Only the Justice League didn't take things lying down.

The Justice League was the one that set off this war. They weren't about to back down just because an omega died. They sent more forces to secure their victory at all costs.

They went about the city destroying every black market they could find. They destroyed smuggling and narcotics businesses. They were hell-bent on making the city hell for villains.

This led to the escalation of the conflict between heroes and villains. It was still the secret war, but at the rate people were dying on both sides, there wouldn't be combatants left to fight the open war.

But the Justice League didn't stop. They couldn't stop because their actions had boosted their popularity by a significant margin. They couldn't stop now when they were ahead. Instead, they were looking forward to the open war more and more.

The Justice League also began searching for Thorin and increased the value of his head on their bounty list. This is something that all the hero societies did.

They had it on good authority that Thorin was involved in the death of the Count and many others. He was also a dick. They made up their minds to end him at all costs.

This is why Mel advised Thorin to stop meddling and go into hiding. After all, he wasn't immortal. If someone famed to be immortal could die, then he isn't safe.

But Thorin didn't heed her warnings. He continued his search with a laid-back attitude. He was even whistling to himself as he ran all over the city.

He found two more safe houses after the first one. Both of them had exploded despite his best efforts. Apparently there was a local electronic system in the apartments that sensed motion and other signs of intrusion. They always triggered an explosion a few seconds after detecting his entry.

He didn't mind the explosions, though. He continued following the trail until he found another safe house.

He went into the safe house to repeat the process. He would enter, the house would explode, he would wait for the fire to be put out, then he would pick up the trail and follow it again.

But this time, things were different. There was someone waiting for him when he entered the safe house.

The person was standing in the middle of the room. They appeared to be waiting for him. He was very surprised by this development.

He didn't recognize the person, so he smiled and asked, "Are you the shape-shifter?"

He was already using his ability to attack the person as he was asking that question. He planned to use his ability to gain some leverage and force the person to answer all his questions. He didn't plan to fight. But the person was ready to fight.

The door closed behind him. Then the person rushed forward to attack him.

He sneered and said, "How rash."

But then his sneer died on his lips when he felt his mind fire take hold and go out.

He couldn't believe it. So he tried again. He made eye contact with the person and ignited their mind with his psychic spark ability.

His ability worked. He felt their mind catch fire. But he didn't see the subsequent change in their emotions. There was no pain or shock in the emotions of the person.

This meant that whatever had happened, it didn't affect their emotions much. Then the fire went out again. So the fire definitely didn't touch their minds as the only reason he can think of for the fire to go out is if they don't have a mind anymore.
