Chapter 163: The Fisherman.

They were having slow progress in the investigation due to the fact that the killer was a shape-shifter. They hadn't even figured out yet that the killer was a shape-shifter. When they do, what they will find will be a booby trap prepared for them.

Kelvin had learned a lot in the two days he was masquerading as a worker in the investigation of his own crime. The fact that the Count had been prepared for him also made him decide to make some more preparations.

He had called off the attack that night, which gave him time to map out the skyscraper and prepare a suitcase in the staircase.

He also had enough time to acquire a new safe house and turn it into a silent death trap made with odorless poisonous gas and explosive gas.

He changed his tracks and identity several times. He even destroyed his hoverbike so that it won't be used to find him. But he didn't account for Thorin.

Thorin had appeared in the skyscraper soon after he left. He was a handsome man with white skin, white hair, and grey eyes. He was wearing a silver suit to match his features.

He looked at the spot in the elevator where something sharp had sliced through the control and the door. It was something thin and very sharp because the cut was smooth and thin.

He turned his eyes towards the ground where the Count had bled out. Around him were the heroes and technicians investigating the crime scene. He had put all of them to sleep, so they couldn't stop him.

His eyes were not only seeing the blood and physical damage to infrastructure. He could also see the swirling emotional outbursts of the two combatants as they fought for their lives.

These two had fought for their lives with all they had, so the outbursts were intense. He wasn't there when it happened, but he expects that if he had been there, he would have seen two ghostly, multicolored stars ejecting gas material from their surface again and again as they were agitated.

He missed that spectacle, but he can still see the traces they left behind. The gas they had ejected was still lingering around. They formed wobbly trails that led to their source.

Even the trail for the Count's mind was still there. He adjusted his suit and began following the trail.

He is a patient man. He is used to following a trail for weeks on end, and he is used to succeeding in his hunt. For this particular hunt, he has a lot of expectations.

He said to himself, "I hope it was the shape-shifter that took the bait. It should be them since I haven't seen this emotional pattern before."

He was the one that put up the bounty for the Count. He did so for many reasons. The first reason was to inconvenience the Count. He would have been satisfied if the Count was not able to sleep because of people coming after him to kill him.

The Count being tired would have made him less effective during the upcoming war. After all, his omega ability is dependent on his mind and focus. If the old man is tired, then his ability won't be used for long.

Even if all of that doesn't work, he would have had fun knowing that he inconvenienced a rival. But apart from fun, he did it for the slim chance of catching the shape-shifter.

That's why he included the information about the purpose of the Count in the city in the bounty page. He didn't need to do that. But he did it to make sure that the shape-shifter would know that they are coming after him, so the shape-shifter might try to eliminate the Count.

He had little hope for that, though. Actually, he had more faith in the chance of someone killing the Count for the bounty than in the shape-shifter going after the person hunting him.

He just thought that if the shape-shifter could kill Stella, they might be able to kill the Count too. But if that doesn't work and someone else attacks the Count, he is ready to take advantage of the situation by piling on the Count and killing the old man.

None of his plans involves killing whoever came for the bounty or killing the shape-shifter. He is looking for the shape-shifter to recruit them. He would have been content with killing the Count and taking the Count's energy stones.

He was just a carefree fisherman who had cast his bait and hook into the waters. He didn't care about what he might catch. The process of fishing was fun on its own. But then he caught a very large fish.

It is a big fish indeed because the Count is dead, and he was able to steal the old man's energy stones which he had stored in his room. Now he is interested in the identity of the person who made his fishing a greater success than he had expected by killing the Count.

He is hoping that it will be the shape-shifter. But even if it is not, he would like to meet the person who managed to take the Count out in a few seconds of fighting.

Some might consider it foolishness to meet someone who managed to kill someone he wasn't confident enough to kill on his own. But he was confident in his own safety because he doesn't think the bounty hunter can harm him.

He has an omega ability too. It is a particularly dangerous one that only a few people can resist. Unfortunately, he has a big weakness. Anyone who knows this weakness will have a better chance of surviving against him.

The Count knows this weakness, which is why he didn't go out to kill the Count alone. Instead he put up a bounty so that someone could distract the Count. Then he would have swooped in like a kingfisher to catch the prized fish.
