Destiny: Chosen For Battle

Chapter 13: Chapter 13

Gold's POV

June went upstairs to call the others while I stayed back, staring at the black box in front of me. It was urgent that we open it and leave this cursed house as soon as possible. Moments , Lex came downstairs, followed closely by the others.

"What's wrong, Destiny?" Lex asked as he sat beside me, his eyes narrowing at the box.

"It's about this house. We need to leave," I replied, still focused on the box.

"We weren't planning to stay here long anyway," Nixton shrugged nonchalantly.

Lex folded his hands, looking at me skeptically. "Alright, Gold. I assume you have a good reason for saying this."

"This house is haunted," I stated firmly. "Believe me, there's no time to rest. We are here for a mission."

I glanced at Destiny, who looked like a lost puppy, nervously rubbing her neck.

"He's right, guys. I saw something last night. We can't stay here anymore. Let's leave now," Destiny chimed in, and I sighed in relief. Finally, someone believed me.

"Alright, Destiny," Lex said, nodding at her. I frowned. So, he'd listen to Destiny but not me? Typical. "Camila, Kelvin, go get the horses."

Camila came rushing back moments later, looking like she'd just seen a ghost, while Kelvin followed, visibly confused.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Yeah, why do you guys look like you've just seen a ghost?" Destiny asked, her voice tinged with concern.

"The horses are dead," Kelvin said, his eyes wide with shock.

"It looks like... they were eaten overnight," Camila added, horror etched on her face.

"What?!" Lex gasped while June stared at me, confused and uncertain.

"We can't stay here any longer. We'll leave on foot," Lex declared, and I nodded in agreement.

When I tried opening the front door, it wouldn't budge. It was as if it were locked from the outside.

"What's wrong with the door?" Destiny asked, already looking terrified.

"I think it's locked from the outside," I said, placing my temple against the door with a sigh.

"Then let's try the back door," Nixton suggested, and we all rushed over.

Camila was the first to reach it, but when she tried to open it, it wouldn't move.

"The door isn't opening," Camila cried out in frustration.

Lex placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "It's going to be okay," he said, but his voice betrayed his uncertainty.

Five hours had passed since we found ourselves trapped in the house. Tension hung heavy in the air as I sat on the couch, staring at the mysterious black box.

"We need to open this box. I can tell there's something in it," I said.

"We're stuck in here, and all you care about is a damn box?" Kelvin snapped angrily.

"Maybe there's something in that box that can get us out of here," Lex interjected, trying to defuse the tension.

"Or maybe even a key," Destiny added, glancing at the box.

Lex decided to try using fire to open the doors, leaving the rest of us to figure out the box. Destiny sat beside me, focusing intently. She closed her eyes, and frost began forming over the wood.

"I need Lex," she murmured just as he returned with a defeated look.

"Even fire couldn't open the doors," Lex said with a frown.

Destiny explained that the ice would weaken the wood, and Lex used his flames to melt it carefully. The wood cracked and fell apart, revealing its contents.

"It's enough! Don't melt what's inside!" Destiny yelled, making Lex glare at her in annoyance.

Inside the box were old photographs of a young girl and, at the very bottom, a bone-shaped sword.

"What's this?" I asked, holding up the sword.

"I don't know," June replied with a frown. "Maybe it's for the door?"

"No, it's for something else," I said firmly.

Suddenly, I heard a faint voice. "It's locked with magic."

I turned around and froze. A little girl in a blue dress stood behind me, looking calm and composed. My confusion deepened. Was my mind playing tricks on me?

"I told you it's been more than five hours," she said softly.

The others stared at me like I'd lost my mind as I began talking to her. "Can't they see you?" I asked.

"No, they can't," she replied with a small smile.

"What's your name?" I asked.

"Sara," she said simply.

I explained to the group that I was speaking to the ghost of the girl in the photographs. They looked at me skeptically but didn't argue.

"What killed you?" I asked Sara.

"The beast," she replied.

"What beast?" I pressed, but she looked lost in thought, unable to describe it.

June returned from trying the door, gasping for air. "It's not opening, guys," she cried.

Sara warned us that the beast would kill us all unless we used the sword to defeat it. Just then, June looked around and realized something terrifying.

"Kelvin is not here," she said.
