Demon Legacy

Chapter 7: Demon Girl's Grief and Guilt

After her father's death and the end of the war, the Demon Queen offers Demon Girl a place to live with her. But Demon Girl, burdened by guilt, refuses. Every day she cries, haunted by the thought that her actions led to her father's death. Her sorrow spirals into desperation as she tries to find ways to bring him back, even asking Kiki to rewind time. Kiki, however, explains gently, "The Dead Zone would kill me if I tried to rewind your father's life… and even then, I don't have the strength to change such a powerful fate."

The Demon Queen, noticing Demon Girl's pain, makes it her mission to be there whenever she breaks down, feeling that it's time to truly connect with her daughter. She holds Demon Girl through her cries, stays close whenever she has dark thoughts, and encourages her gently each time she tries to find a way to resurrect her father, saying, "I know you're strong enough to keep going, to try harder in life." Over time, Demon Girl starts to rely on the Queen's presence and even finds comfort in Kiki's support.

 New Bonds and Emerging Fears

As time passes, the Demon Queen and Kiki fall in love, and eventually, they have a daughter named Scarlett. The Demon Queen's time becomes divided between her new family and her responsibilities, and she starts to have less time for Demon Girl. Kiki, too, becomes increasingly busy with Scarlett and the Queen, and he no longer spends as much time with Demon Girl.

The fear that has long lingered within Demon Girl resurfaces—she feels like she's losing everyone all over again. Her guilt over her father's death deepens, along with a crushing sense of abandonment. Alone, she begins to think, Is it all my fault? Is that why no one is here?

Ten Years Later

At seventeen, Demon Girl has transformed into a fierce, independent young woman, still carrying the weight of her father's death and feeling responsible for it. She's trained tirelessly, trying to become strong enough to never lose anyone again. Though distant at first, she has reluctantly developed a bond with her ten-year-old half-sister Scarlett, who idolizes her but is blissfully unaware of Demon Girl's inner turmoil.

One day during training, Scarlett, full of curiosity and excitement, asks, "Can I train with you, sis?"

Demon Girl sighs, "Don't call me 'sis.'" She tries to brush Scarlett off, but the younger girl insists, even threatening to tell their mother if she isn't allowed to join. Eventually, Demon Girl caves in, and to her surprise, Scarlett quickly grasps demonic energy techniques that took her years to master. Scarlett's growth is impressive—she even manages to nearly lift weights far beyond her age, only faltering after pushing herself too hard.

A Month Later: The Queen's Decision

The Queen, having watched Scarlett's quick mastery, gathers everyone in the great hall for an important announcement. She stands before Demon Girl and Scarlett, ready to reveal who she has chosen as her successor to rule Hell.

The Queen's gaze settles on Scarlett with a look of pride and warmth. "The next ruler of Hell," she declares, "will be Scarlett."

Demon Girl's heart stops. Her face twists in shock as she whispers, "What?"

The Queen's voice is steady but distant as she explains, "Scarlett has my spirit, my fire. She has the qualities that a ruler of Hell needs to lead us forward. Demon Girl… you have a lot of your father in you. That strength… it's powerful, but it's also dangerous." She pauses, looking at her elder daughter with a mixture of pity and distrust. "You are not suited to rule."

Demon Girl's shock quickly turns to resentment. In the Queen's eyes, she's just a reflection of her father—a man whose death still lingers in Demon Girl's heart. The Queen seems to see her as a liability, a reminder of a past she wants to move beyond. Scarlett, meanwhile, beams with pride, oblivious to the tension rising between her sister and mother.

As the ceremony ends, Demon Girl storms off, her heart torn between love and betrayal. For the first time, she feels the full weight of her mother's judgment—that no matter how much she trained, no matter how hard she fought, she would never be seen as worthy of leading Hell.
