Demon Lord's Reincarnation

Chapter 772: Side Chapters: The broken promise

Among the many reincarnations of the Strongest Mortal Soul, there have been quite a few that had faced a branch of the ORIGIN, or someone empowered by the ORIGIN.

Every time any reincarnation faced an enemy related to the ORIGIN their only fate was death. Still, despite that most of them were able to defeat the enemy before dying. Also, all of the reincarnations who died in this way were the happiest as they were able to battle even a representative of the strongest being in all reality.

Yet among all those reincarnations, there was one who could be called lucky at the same time unlucky. When all other reincarnations met with a doppelganger or a representative of the ORIGIN there was one who accidentally entered the dimension where the ORIGIN was sealed.

The name of this reincarnation of the Strongest Mortal Soul had been forgotten by all, his very existence had been wiped out from all reality. Even the original incarnation of the Strongest Mortal Soul only knows that one of his many reincarnations has ceased to exist, his existence and his achievements all have disappeared.

...

The name of this forgotten Bjorn Yondel the best hunter from a small village. Bjorn Yondel, the best hunter from a small village, was known for his unparalleled skill in tracking and slaying formidable beasts. His prowess earned him respect among the villagers and the awe of those who heard tales of his exploits.

...

The name of this forgotten reincarnation was Bjorn Yondel the best hunter from a small village. Bjorn Yondel, the best hunter from a small village, was known for his unparalleled skill in tracking and slaying formidable beasts. His prowess earned him respect among the villagers and the awe of those who heard tales of his exploits.

Orphaned at a young age, Bjorn had only one true companion: Astrid Lindgren, a spirited girl with laughter that rang like a bell. Their bond transcended the mundane; they reveled in the wonders of the forest and shared dreams of grandeur beyond the village's boundaries. Though life had dealt them a harsh hand, together, they carved moments of magic in their simple existence.

"Hey Astrid, how about we go on an adventure and see the world?" Bjorn proposed one late afternoon, the sun casting golden rays over their secret glade.

"I really want to do that," she replied, her eyes sparkling with unspent wanderlust. "But the merchants warn us that the outside world is dangerous. Also, won't we need money to go on an adventure?"

Bjorn grinned, his adventurous spirit igniting. "I heard from a mercenary that there's a job out there called being an adventurer. They say it's like mercenary work guarding caravans, exploring ruins but the heart of it is just venturing into the unknown! So what do you say? Won't you become an adventurer with me?"

Astrid pondered for a moment, captivated by his enthusiasm. "If we travel together, then I would. But promise me we'll stay together and look out for each other."

"With my skills and your cleverness, we can face anything!" Bjorn vowed the desire for freedom swelling in both their hearts. Driven by a shared dream and youthful bravado, Bjorn and Astrid set forth, stepping beyond the familiar paths of their village into the vast unknown. Days turned into weeks as they faced minor trials, gaining experience and strength with every adventure, but they had no idea that their journey would intertwine with the threads of destiny.

Every single day for them was a wonder, they traveled around the world their fame as adventures echoed throughout the land. The mighty warrior Bjorn whose arrows could penetrate the scales of a dragon and Astrid whose beauty and cleverness can trick even the most knowledgable sphinx.

Their adventures had become legendary as they traveled from place to place helping people along the way. They had met stubborn dwarves who created incredible weapons. They befriended the haughty elves who regarded nature as sacred. They had fought and played with the warbeasts who valued strength above all else. They had listened to the stories of giants who held honor and bravery at their core.

Finally, the two reached the edge of the world, they had adventures to every corner of the land. It was on that day, that Astrid said something surprising.

"We have achieved our childhood dream and adventure to the very ends of the world, our fame has become something of a myth. Now I think I want to have a new adventure. How about we go home Bjorn and start a family."

"Heh, shouldn't I the man being saying these things?"

"Who cares about such things, so will you do it or not?"

"Fine, I promise to make you the happiest woman alive."

The two laughed happily as they promised themselves to each other planning their next grand adventure.

...

While the two were traveling home, Bjorn stumbled upon an ancient item that suddenly linked to his soul. As Bjorn's form began to shimmer and fade, an otherworldly glow enveloped him. Astrid's heart raced with panic as she grasped his arm, her fingers slipping through his vanishing figure.

"Bjorn! What's happening?!" Her voice trembled, desperately searching for answers.

"I don't know!" he replied, a mixture of awe and excitement in his eyes. He felt a pull, an ancient force calling to a part of him that he had never truly understood. The mysterious item he had discovered, ornate and shimmering in hues of blue and gold, pulsated with energy, lighting up the glade around them.

Just moments before the light consumed him entirely, Bjorn turned to Astrid, his spirit brightening with determination. "You must remember me, Astrid! I will find a way back! Trust our bond!"

With that, the light surged bright, and Bjorn vanished entirely, leaving behind the echoes of their laughter and the warmth of their shared dreams. Astrid fell to her knees, tears streaming down her cheeks, a feeling of emptiness enveloping her.

Days turned into weeks as she returned to the village alone, her heart heavy with the weight of loss. Yet, within her chest, a flicker of hope remained. She clung to the adventures they had shared, weaving tales of the mighty Bjorn Yondel into stories told by the hearth, keeping his legacy alive in the hearts of the villagers.

Unknown to her, Bjorn had somehow been transported into the dimension where the ORIGIN was sealed. There in front of him in the place where the concepts of reality itself were all over the place stood a being of unparalleled power.

Just standing before the ORIGIN had made Bjorn the strongest of his world feel an incredible pressure, but instead of succumbing to it, he smiled that vicious smile that all the reincarnations of the Strongest Mortal Soul showed.

"Hoh, what a pleasant surprise my favorite son has come to visit me."

"Son? What do you mean who are you?"

"Oh, you're one of those reincarnations that can't link with the others. I guess I can tell you who I am, I am called by my children the ORIGIN creator of all things."

When Bjorn heard what the ORIGIN said he did not cower in fear as would any other being in his place would do instead he continued to stand before the ORIGIN without any sign of fear. In fact, it feels like something deep within him wanted him to attack the ORIGIN and face him battle.

As a reincarnation of the Strongest Mortal Soul, Bjorn also shares the joy of battle and despite not being able to communicate with the other incarnations Bjorn felt the ORIGIN was not someone he should befriend.

"I see that like all the other reincarnations you can't wait to attack me, but let me tell you this once you fight me, your soul might be able to escape, but the very existence of Bjorn Yondel will be forgotten as this version of you will cease to exist."

Bjorn gazed into the depths of the formless entity that claimed to be the creator of all things, feeling a fusion of awe and defiance bubbling within him.

"Then are you willing to bring me back to the woman I love?" he asked, his voice steady, cutting through the oppressive atmosphere.

The ORIGIN laughed, a sound like distant thunder that echoed across the dimension."Foolish son, the moment you entered this realm, your physical form was lost."

"I see..."

Bjorn closed his eyes and remembered the smiling face of Astrid and the promise of their next grand adventure.

'I guess I won't be able to fulfill that promise after all...'

"Then since I'm here and there's no escaping, then there's only one thing I can do. I Bjorn Yondel challenge the strongest being in existence to battle!"

Hearing the expected challenge of Bjorn made the ORIGIN who was a formless entity sigh as he responded.

"As expected of my favorite foolish son, no matter the reincarnation you truly value, no you truly love battle. I wanted you to accompany me for a bit, but I guess that's impossible for someone battle-crazed as you."

Bjorn and the ORIGIN began the battle with an obvious outcome.

...

Astrid who had grown old waiting for someone she could not remember. She who had many suitors because of her beauty and fame rejected them all.

In that small village of hers were the bards sang of her many legendary deeds, Astrid who heard those songs felt like something was missing. She did not understand why but hearing of her adventures from the bard's mouth she could imagine another person with her through all those adventures. A man who loved to fight, a man who shared wonder after wonder with her, a man who never backed down from any challenge.

She could not remember a name, face, or anything at all, she was unsure if that man even existed, but every time tried to imagine the man a smile would appear on her face and tears would fall as well.

In the end, she waited for as long as she could for the man in her dreams, but that man would never come. Until her last heartbeat, Astrid lived with the haunting beauty of what could have been.
