Chapter 743: Mythious
While Ren and Tanith were on their journey gathering allies, their enemies the Gods had received a revelation from the ORIGIN. The ORIGIN had ordered them to kill all of those who had connections with the Strongest Mortal Soul. Thus began a war between the Gods and the clans of the past incarnations of the Strongest Mortal Soul.
...
Cry Loder one of the reincarnations of the Strongest Mortal Soul was a peculiar reincarnation he was special. Even amongst all the monsters that have been called the reincarnations of the Strongest Mortal Soul Cry Loder stood out.
He stood out not because he was the most powerful reincarnation or the one with the most achievements, he stood out because he did not put battle above all else. Instead, what he valued above all else was finding out the truth of everything.
He pursued the so-called truth with a passion rivaling the passion of other reincarnations for battle.
Also among all the reincarnations, Cry Loder was revered as a great inventor, alchemist, and blacksmith. He had created numerous objects that were worthy to be called artifacts, not only that he was also able to form new kinds of spells that even later generations would call unreplicable.
The descendants of Cry Loder also shared his obsession with researching and figuring out the truth of the universe. There was also Cry Loder's friend and rival, the Ancient Mage Mythious the one who pursues the mysteries of magic.
Cry Loder who pursued the truth had delved into different things, not only did he learn magic and martial arts, but he was also adept in scientific research and even theology. As long as it was something to learn Cry Loder would try and learn it.
On the other hand, his friend and rival, the Ancient Mage Mythious focused on one thing and one thing only and that was magic. If you only compare Mythious and Cry with their abilities in magic then Mythious would win, but if it's an all-out battle there was no way Cry would lose.
Mythious had tried multiple times and asked Cry to battle him, but after the first loss, it took years before Cry battled him again. Even though Cry liked battling others, especially fighting strong opponents he was more interested in gaining new knowledge. This was another thing that set him apart from the other reincarnations of the Strongest Mortal Soul.
Still, whenever Cry found a new thing to do and a new place to go to, the first one he would call to accompany him was none other than Mythious. Among all the known companions of the Strongest Mortal Soul Mythious could very well be at the same level as them in terms of talent.
He was also the next companion that Ren and Tanith were thinking of recruiting. Not only would they recruit a powerful magician but the entirety of the Loder Clan which was basically the greatest support clan among the descendants. Able to do alchemy and blacksmithing, and even able to fight on the front lines as magicians or martial artists.
...
On top of a snowy mountain, a man wearing nothing but a thin cloth had his eyes closed and was sitting on the ground without moving. The man looked to be in his late twenties but that wasn't his real age, it could be said that he was even older than the mountain he was standing on.
This man was the one called the Ancient Mage Mythious, right now he was enjoying the nice breeze on top of the snowy mountain. Mythious who was enjoying the feeling of the frosty wind on his skin opened his eyes and sighed.
'The Gods are becoming even more aggressive in their attacks. The other clans formed by the descendants of the Strongest Mortal Soul are already having problems, and are being pushed back.'
Mythious knew that if things continued on this path, then the final outcome would be the total destruction of all the clans, that's wrong it was not just the clans but all humanity.
The only ones who were powerful enough to fight against the Gods were the descendants of the Strongest Mortal Soul and their former companions.
The elite of the descendants could handle New Gods, but to defeat an Old God they would need several teams of the elite, as for defeating an Ancient One well aside from the original incarnation there hasn't been an effective way of winning, but sealing one would cost at least hundreds of the so-called strongest of the clans.
Right now Mythious was using his magic to hide the presence of the Loder Clan from the Gods. Once the Loder Clan falls it would be harder for the other clans to resist the Gods. Seeing the dire situation Mythious couldn't help but click his tongue in frustration.
"Tsk, if you were still alive what would you do Cry?... Heh, I bet you would show that irritating smile of yours while saying that this was a chance for you to try a new spell, a new technique, or some new invention you created. You wouldn't even acknowledge this as a desperate situation.
In the end, with that irritating smile of yours, you would solve everything I find difficult with such ease that I..."
Mythious stopped talking as he gritted his teeth and sighed.
'It's no use thinking about what Cry would do since he's already gone. I can only defend these foolish descendants of his in his stead, hoping his current reincarnation would be able to deal with this situation...'
Mythious found that he was frustrated by the situation and he was also frustrated at himself. If it were him of the past he would have already attacked the enemy with a bombardment of spells not caring about the consequences, but now it was different.
"Damn it you fool! It was supposed to be me that died that day, why did you have to go and do that? Sacrificing yourself for my sake and then telling me to protect that woman yours and your children. I thought you just wanted to find the truth of the universe so why do something so stupid?!
I protected your wife and children till the day they died, and then now I'm continuing to protect your descendants, even then I don't feel like I have finished paying off my debt to you."
Mythious shouted at the sky not knowing why he was suddenly having more flashbacks about old memories of his old friend and rival Cry Loder.
