Demon Lord's Reincarnation

Chapter 741: The promised battle

Regus was confused as to what he and the person who suddenly appeared were talking about. It was then he heard the name of the other party, it was Christoph Wolf the legendary demon slayer, the man whose achievements have become almost like a myth.

While still in a state of shock, Regus saw his master and Christoph get into fighting stances. Regus was unable to hear what they were talking about moments ago, but he could guess a few things based on the stories his master told him about Christoph.

The two rivals faced each other his master with his sword and Christoph with his bare fist. Regus had his eyes peeled wide open as this was a fight that anyone who knew martial arts would want to see.

Without any warning, Fyodor made the first move It was a move Regus has seen numerous times. The first technique of the martial art Fyodor taught Regus, the one called Lightning slash. It was a very simple technique that didn't have any fancy movements, just a direct sideward slash.

Lightning slash was a technique that focused on a singular attack with extreme speed. A slash that would look like lightning to the one watching from the side. Among all the techniques in Fyodor's martial art Lighting Slash was the fastest.

Regus has been training with his master for a year now and has seen many strong people challenge his master, but no matter who it was no one was able to withstand the first technique Lightning Slash. So what happened next surprised Regus, with movements that one wouldn't call fast or slow Christoph guided Fyodor's blade with the palm of his hands making Fyodor flip.

Fyodor who was about to hit the ground pushed himself up and then used the next technique, Falling Lightning. Fyodor who appeared above Christoph dropped down using the downward swinging motion of his sword to increase his momentum, he even added the mana of nature into his attack making his sword truly like lightning.

Yet the same as before Fyodor guided the attack with his palms making it flow in a different direction.

Expecting Christoph to do that, Fyodor quickly transitioned from falling Lightning back to Lightning Slash. Unfortunately, the same thing happened again where Christoph guided the sword in a different direction than was intended.

Regus who was watching the entire thing was amazed by the sight. This was the first time he saw his master unable to hit the target. If his master was like a violent lightning storm, Christoph's way of fighting was like that of a cloud.

Fyodor continued attacking Fyodor with blinding speed but no matter from what angle, or what form Christoph was able to redirect all of Fyodor's attacks. Not only was Christoph able to redirect all of Fyodor's attacks Regus finally noticed that Christoph hadn't taken a step forward from the spot he was standing.

Regus who had pride in his talent to grasp any technique quickly was having difficulty understanding Christoph's moves. He could see each move made by Christoph but he was sure that he would not be able to copy them since he could not understand them. How was Christoph who was moving slower than Fyodor able to guide Fyodor's attacks in the way he wanted?

Despite not understanding it Regus continued to watch trying to gain as much as possible.

"It seems that you have focused on increasing your speed, but the refinement of your techniques has barely improved," Christoph spoke while shrugging his shoulders.

"Tsk, on the other hand, it seems that you have reached perfection in your techniques. I guess I should congratulate you for finally reaching that peak that you so craved."

Hearing what Fyodor said Christoph showed a surprise look and then started laughing heartily.

"Oh, it seems like you have made a mistake. This is far from perfection, though I did improve greatly since I had a lot of time, but that is not the peak... I have seen a higher peak than what we knew of, than what we could have ever imagined. That peak I saw Fyodor is so high that my own techniques seem so immature."

"... I see, so you have jumped out of the well, while I still remain within it."

"... Yeah, but that can change, I came here for two reasons to fulfill my promise to you and to ask you to join us."

"Us?"

"It's kinda hard to explain now, but later we'll have plenty of time."

"Is that so... Very well, let's leave all that complicated talk for later, and let's finish up this duel."

"Are you sure, you want to continue?"

"Heh, I don't know what kind of peaks you have seen, but I haven't even gone all out yet. Don't you remember what I did every time I challenged you to a duel?"

"Oh right, it's been so long that I almost forgot. So you created another technique that you think could defeat me. You really should stop doing that and just polish the techniques you already have."

"That might be okay for you, but it's not for me. What I seek is not perfection of a technique, what I seek is always beyond what I already have always finding that new horizon, the thrill of discovering new techniques that can be used."

"Heh, every time I hear that idea of yours it always sounds so foolish, but I know what kind of stubborn old fool you are. So show it to me then that new technique of yours."

Fyodor nodded his head in response while adjusting his breathing. The aura Fyodor was exuding had changed, if it was like a storm before now it was like a calm wave. Fyodor slowly approached Christoph and passed him by.

Regus who was watching by the side did not understand what just happened, why did his master just walk by doing nothing? It was at that moment Regus saw a cut appear on Christoph's shoulder. This was the first time throughout the entire battle that his master was able to touch Christoph.

As Regus was getting excited to see what would happen next, he saw his master not moving and Christoph no longer in a fighting stance.

"That was a good technique, Fyodor." After Christoph said those words like a puppet whose strings were cut Fyodor collapsed to the ground.
