Chapter 716: A realization
Ractopictan no longer remembers how long ago it was when he was first created by the ORIGIN, but he remembers the events of that day so vividly. On the day that he and his siblings were created, the ORIGIN looked at them with a look of loneliness and disappointment.
They had just been created and seeing that look on their creator's face they knew that they were failures. They who had been created to cure their father, their creator's loneliness were inadequate. Even though they were made using the power from the void and had strong bodies they were not suitable vessels to house the power from the void for themselves.
They had failed to accomplish what they were made for, they only existed now simply because the ORIGIN had left them be. After that day the Ancient Ones started trying to find new meaning in their existence.
They have spent all their time to find meaning but unfortunately, most of them could not find any meaning to their existence. They tried to do something but they could not change, they could not learn anything new, and they were unable to solve the mystery as to why they could not wield the power from the void.
Time passed quickly and their quest for meaning was fruitless, but it was then that their father the ORIGIN created a new race. A race that was almost the direct opposite of the Ancient Ones, it was a race that was born with nothing.
In the beginning, the Ancient Ones just felt pity for the humans, but then noticed that the ORIGIN actually paid attention to them. The ORIGIN who has been silent ever since their creation was actually paying attention to the humans.
...
Just remembering that day when the humans appeared was enough to make Ractopictan enraged.
"I don't understand, what is the meaning of your existence?! Why can you who had nothing gain everything?!"
Ractopictan's attacks intensified as he summoned more souls to attack Erste, he even summoned the souls of the Dragons who attacked him. Erste easily defeated those that were summoned as he dashed towards Ractopictan who roared at him.
As Ractopictan unleashed a bombardment of long-range attacks his thoughts were in disarray. No matter what he did, no matter what he wished nothing ever goes his way, not him not the others. They only wanted their existence to have meaning, they wanted their father to accept them.
"Not only are you screaming and shouting like a beast but you're not even focused on this fight... You keep on shouting about things like what the meaning of my existence is and that humans have nothing. I don't know why you're thinking about such philosophical things while fighting, but if you really want an answer I'll give it to you."
While he was speaking Erste and Ractopictan were still attacking and defending without missing a beat.
"I don't know much about the meaning of one's existence and the answer differs from person to person, but in the end, I guess it doesn't really matter. I never thought about the meaning of my own existence I just live day by day the way I want to. I do have goals and dreams but those things are not what gives meaning to my existence.
In the end, I simply do things to satisfy my own desires, I eat when I'm hungry, I sleep when I am tired, I train to be able to protect myself, I kill those who wish to harm me and I fight because I enjoy it..."
Erste paused for several seconds as he looked at the enraged Ractopictan before he continued speaking.
"The uncertainty you have about your own existence based on what I've heard and seen from you is because you placed the meaning of your own existence upon another," Erste spoke while looking at the enraged Ractopictan with pity.
"As for humans having nothing, well in a way that is true, we are born into this world with nothing but our own lives. I don't know about you Ancient Ones, but despite having nothing we strive to gain more, and in the end, we hope to hold everything."
The enraged Ractopictan finally stopped his assault and backed away, Erste also did not press onto the attack as he wanted to hear what Ractopictan would say.
"This is why I hate you humans, no it's not only me but why a vast majority of us Ancient Ones hate humans. We who were born with everything and were created to be perfection could gain nothing, but you who were born with nothing can gain everything even that what we so dearly wish."
"You see I don't really care about that wish of yours, nor do I care about why you hate humanity so much, but I can already guess by the bits and pieces that I know that it's an asinine reason. You and all the Gods are all just whiny babies, aren't you? Heh, well it's not like I'm doing anything noble as well."
The two once again clashed but this time Ractopictan was blown away, and unlike before the damaged parts of his body could no longer heal. He already expected something like this to happen when he saw Erste using the power from the void, but he still continued anyway. It was at this time he understood something.
The anger that was filling him had disappeared at some point as he clashed with Erste, and what replaced it was a great realization.
"I see, so that's how it is... Heh, then we truly are failures."
'In the end, I guess, I was never trying to win, I was trying to die.'
The very second he came to realize the truth of his own actions he allowed Erste to cut his core which was the scythe he was holding. When Erste sliced the scythe in half he had a surprised confused look on his face and then that turned into anger.
"What the f*ck did you just do?! Did you just let me win?!"
"Heh, it's a good thing to see such an expression from you before disappearing."
"Damn it you f*cking sh*tty b*stard! You're making it look like I couldn't defeat you if you did not let me win!" Erste shouted at the fading Ractopictan, who responded by showing his middle finger at Erste. This of course angered Erste even more, but as he was about to shout more profanities at Ractopictan the fading Ancient One spoke first.
"Though our time together was short, I did learn a lot from you. I hope you guide my siblings to the truth as well."
"F*ck you b*stard I don't want to talk to any more whiny babies like you." Erste also showed his middle finger at Ractopictan who chuckled before disappearing from existence.
