Chapter 76: Goddess of Magic

The Greek Goddess of magic [Hecate], as is known on planet Earth, is the Goddess that had dominion over the arcane; according to various sources, she isn't a sole entity but instead three Goddesses.

The [Crone], a goddess who despises humanity and gloats in their despair; the [Woman], a beautiful goddess who makes deals with mortals, but they often bring an undesirable outcome; and lastly, the [Child], a little innocent goddess that goes around helping and teaching people the secrets of the arcane but not without a little mischief.

'At least that's what they said, but I know the truth.' (Isaac)

[Hecate] isn't a Greek goddess, nor is [Hecate] her real name; she is an entity beyond that. She is the personification of the [Multi-Universal Energy] known as [Magic].

Born at the same time as the universe itself, she wandered the cosmos in search of life, and when she found it, she treasured them and taught them all her knowledge.

'Unfortunately, over time, their so-called "students" turned against her; their greed clouded their love and respect for her.' (Isaac)

They tricked her and imprisoned her in a special dimensional space isolated from the universe.

In there they siphon her magic to empower themselves; doing that, they took a portion of her authority over magic.

These actions cause the universe to start showing signs of imbalance and chaos.

They knew it was their fault, so instead of showing signs of guilt, they saw an opportunity; with their newfound power, they erased all trace of their [teacher] from the minds of the living organisms across all the universe, and they assumed authority and control over magic.

They started to call themselves [The Council of Mages]. This new Council oversaw all the magic-related incidents and actions all across the multiverse.

**************

For several millennials, their [teacher] was imprisoned, her existence forgotten by all, but what they didn't know was that another entity similar to her was whispering in her mind.

'The [Upside Down Man], an entity born alongside her, her antithesis, her counterpart, her weakness.' (Isaac)

Her first action when she was born was to displace and entrap him alongside the darkness of the universe in a separate dimension, but with her recent entrapment and her dominion partially taken by her former students, those beings born in the darkness started to take action.

The first one to make its move was the [Upside Down Man]. His connection with her made it easy for him to find her, and over millennia, he whispered all sorts of tentative deals. At first, she was disgusted by his voice and his offers of "help," but over time her patience started to wear down.

She started to feel a brand new emotion called [Hate], an insufferable emotion that consumed her thinking every second, every minute, every hour, every day, every week, every month, and every year.

She couldn't take it anymore; she only muttered two simple words, but those words were enough to change the multiverse forever... [I accept], and with those simple words, she regained her freedom.

**********

The so-called Council was the first one to notice that the magic that was so familiar to them shifted; it became harder to command, to use, and then in a flash of light she appeared before them.

Her wrath was felt across the multiverse; what was left of the Council flew into another dimension after being nearly killed and stripped by her of almost all their magic.

Unfortunately, the pieces of authority that they stole from her were long fused to their very existence.

She looked at the sentient beings that she once loved and cared for but now only hated and disgusted her; she wanted to strip all the magic from them, but in a brilliant moment of hate-induced genius, she instead made the magic that they depended on and loved so much a curse instead of a blessing.

To use magic, they needed to pay a price, and the stronger the magic, the bigger the price.

'As for what kind of price they had to pay, well, let's just say that being a mage from that point forward was like gambling, and the currency was bits and pieces of your own life.' (Isaac)

Over time, what happened to magic and her wrath towards them became no more than a tale in the mind of the mortals, and with the new Gods claiming tribute and adoration, she was forgotten again.

Until a Goddess appeared out of nowhere claiming authority over Magic, the New Gods tried to argue with her, but they were swiftly defeated; thus she claimed the Goddess of Magic title.

Every civilization named her differently, but she was one and the same, and the name that the people of Greece called her was [Hecate].

******************

In front of Isaac, a multi-corporeal goddess was watching him with great interest, or at least two out of three.

"To think that, "That Tree" will lend a mortal a hand" (The Woman)

"Probably he likes him, like me?"(The Child)

"This is a waste of time". (The Crone)

The Goddess was arguing with herself as if it was a normal thing to do, but Isaac didn't have the luxury to listen.

"Then if you excuse me..."(Isaac)

Been granted permission by the personification of magic itself, he resumed his efforts to create his new magic.

'Ivory again'(Isaac)

[Yes, Master]

Magic started to gather around him again, and the knowledge of [Holy Magic] was flooding into his mind.

The previous resistance was gone as if it wasn't any in the first place; the magic and knowledge blended together easily.

On the metaphysical tapestry where the Runes reside, a brand new Rune was added into the mix.

*Hmm*

The Goddess stopped arguing with herself; she paid attention to the new rune that was embedded into her.

"I see, a way for mortals to protect themselves and eliminate something evil in nature, pretty interesting..." (The Cone/Woman/Child)

*************

All the Mages on Planet Earth felt something; for millennia, the rules of magic had been written, but now something disrupted these laws.

A man pulled a cigarette and a lighter out of his light brown trench coat and murmured to himself while he tried to light it.

"So, someone so bloody stupid just changed the game, huh?"

A tall figure in a blue cape and blue hat with a white stripe questioned itself.

"A new magic?"(???)

____________________

The High Queen of Avalon and her husband felt the change.

"This is..."(Sindella)

"Something changed..."(Giovanni Zatara)

_______________

In the throne room of Themisira, the queen, with a knowing smile, spoke to her daughter.

"He really is a fascinating man"(Hippolyta).

"Mother, is this because of him?" (Diana)

"Yes, my child"(Hippolyta)

In the throne room of Atlantis, the queen was discussing some important issues when she paused, sensing the changes.

"Who is so bold as to do this?" (Atlanna)

As soon as those words leave her mouth, the figure of a young mage came to her mind.

"No way...(Atlanna)

*******************

On was left of Azarath.

'Success'(Isaac)

He could feel the magic moving according to his will, and with a thought, a golden aura started to surround him.

"My part of the deal is done; I look forward for your help in the future..." (The Crone/Woman/Child)

At the end of her words, she disappeared as if she was never there to begin with.

'This is going to cost me, isn't it?' (Isaac)

Although he was prepared to pay the price, he was still worried about what kind of help an entity like her will need.

'Well, that's for future Isaac to worry about for now.' (Isaac)

He looked at Trigon destroying the guardians, and when only the Azure Dragon remained, he cancelled his magic.

"It's time to finish this..."(Isaac)
