Chapter 36: Taking risks
They moved quickly, and followed Finn behind him who hurried back towards the camp.
Gareth, as Finn's comrade-in-arms, of course knew Finn's intuition very well. So, when Finn said something was wrong, something was bound to happen to them. That's why, he followed him without hesitation or asking any questions.
Of course, the other two might not have known Finn as long as Gareth, but Bete certainly knew Finn's very accurate intuition, so she also followed him immediately without hesitation.
Kelvin..., he on the other hand didn't care about Finn's intuition or anything. Because from the beginning, he already knew about the plot that was going to happen this time. That's why, he went to follow Finn because a big battle awaited in front of him.
Kelvin's grin couldn't be hidden anymore. Thinking of the big fight that was about to happen..., he felt very excited!
And so they arrived at an intersection connecting the 51st floor and and the 50th floor. Only, there was something strange ....
"Stop!"
Finn immediately stopped his steps, narrowing his eyes as he saw something moving on the other side of the hallway.
"What is it, Finn?" Gareth asked in confusion.
Finn raised his eyebrows and without hesitation. Although they couldn't see anything behind the dark hallway, but his intuition told him there was something dangerous there.
"Wait..., I also feel something ahead there...."
Just when they were confused by Finn's attitude, Kelvin suddenly said something surprising.
"Really? Can you tell what's ahead there?"
Finn didn't doubt Kelvin and immediately asked him. After all, Finn knew one of Kelvin's Skills, and he knew Kelvin's perception ability was very far above him.
Kelvin remained silent, he focused his senses and used [Reverse Sight] to sense what was around him.
And while he was doing that ....
"That..., some kind of caterpillar monster...?"
"Huh? What are you saying?" Bete growled as she looked at Kelvin unhappily.
"No, I'm serious. I can feel they are some kind of giant caterpillar monster ...."
"In that case, could it be a new species?" Gareth stroked his beard uncertainly.
"I think they're heading towards the campsite on the 50th floor..., and there are..., a lot of them!"
Although Kelvin said bitterly; a drop of sweat fell on his forehead. But, the grin on his lips grew wider as his heartbeat pounded.
He was..., feeling excited!
Ignoring Kelvin's reaction, Finn said hurriedly:
"What? Shit! Let's go back to Riveria right away!"
*****
On the other hand-Team 1.
Team 1; consisting of Ais, Lefiya, Tiona and Tione, decided to return after they managed to obtain the Cadmus Spring Water.
It's just that ....
"GRAAAAHHHH!!!"
"No! Kelvin! Get back from there!"
They suddenly heard Kelvin's shout and was followed by Finn's voice shouting frantically; it seemed their location was not far from here.
The four looked at each other and nodded; rushing to check on Team 2.
******
Just as Kelvin and the others headed towards the campsite, they found themselves face to face with a Monster they had never encountered before.
"A new species?!"
"How come?!"
"They look like giant caterpillars ...."
What confronted them was what could be called a giant caterpillar with a large, long body; a faded yellowish-green color.
However, there were some brightly colored spots and patterns that usually indicated the animal or plant was poisonous. Which means, this Monster should also have the same trait.
On the underside, there were countless 'legs' protruding out from its caterpillar-like lower body.
The monster really did look like a caterpillar, only the size was completely exaggerated.
Many thin folds; protruding out, like arms, but at the same time not.
Seeing the 'Caterpillar' Monster, they gave various reactions. Of course, ignoring its quite disgusting form, this new type of monster certainly couldn't be considered weak.
Its existence on the 51st floor alone was enough to make it a level 2 threat, and if there were many of them, it could certainly be considered a level 1 threat.
Which meant, they had to exterminate it or be exterminated.
In the next moment, Kelvin began to move. This time he only used his bare hands and pure physical strength.
Right after he swung his fist, thrusting his hand into the body of the 'caterpillar' monster. But ....
"Graahhhh!"
"What?!"
"No! Kelvin! Get back from there!"
Finn and the other two were stunned.
Because, when Kelvin's hand managed to penetrate the body of the caterpillar monster, a purple-colored liquid came out and seemed to be an acid; injuring Kelvin's hand and giving him a very serious burn.
Kelvin, who realized this first, immediately retreated to strategize. He had known about the ability of this monster from the start, it was just that he wanted to show it to Finn directly instead of saying it.
That was of course to avoid Finn's suspicion. It would be very strange if Kelvin said the monsters had corrosive fluids even though he had never met any of them, right?
If it was like this, then everything would be easy.
Finn would judge things and think of strategies, while Kelvin would just have to play around and fight at will.
"Is your hand okay, Kelvin?" Gareth asked, looking at Kelvin's hand which was currently bruised reddish with smoke billowing from the wound.
It could be clearly seen that the liquid was really acidic, as Kelvin's current skin seemed to 'melt' the moment after being exposed to the liquid.
"He-he, that's really unexpected...."
Feeling the burning feeling on his hand, Kelvin frowned slightly.
"I guess fighting back with a physical attack wasn't a good decision ...."
Finn held his chin, wearing a thinking expression as the 'caterpillar' monster crept towards them.
"No time to think now!"
Bete, who couldn't take it anymore, started to move as she swung her claws recklessly; attacking all the 'caterpillar' monsters that were in front of her.
And as she did so, a lot of corrosive liquid flew into the air, but Bete utilized her good reflexes to avoid all the liquid from hitting her body.
"This time I agree with her." Kelvin grinned, ignoring the wound on his hand as he held his Scythe with his other hand.
"What a youngster these days."
Looking at Kelvin and Bete who started attacking the 'caterpillar' monster, Gareth shook his head with a sigh.
Even so, he still raised his axe and prepared to do the same.
Finn sighed, though he still raised his spear and attacked the nearby monsters.
It's just that ....
"Captain!"
A girl's voice suddenly interrupted them.
Turning their heads, they saw Tione, Tiona, Ais and Lefiya who ran over to them.
"What happened?"
The first to react was Tione. She quickly landed next to Finn naturally, using her eyes to observe the surroundings.
The rest, Ais and Tiona, held their respective weapons in a ready-to-fight stance.
The Elven girl Lefiya, on the other hand was clutching her staff and her hands were trembling slightly. Even so, she had determination in her eyes, and would not hesitate to unleash magic if needed.
"!!!"
Just as Finn was about to explain the situation, the 'caterpillar' monster quickly sprayed various acidic liquids at them.
Finn, realizing this, quickly pushed Tione away and warned them.
"Get out of the way and don't get hit by that liquid!"
Hearing Finn's shout, they were initially confused, but nodded and jumped into the air to avoid the liquid sprayed by the 'caterpillar' monster.
Hisssss
Just as the liquid hit the floor of the Dungeon, the floor quickly erupted into black smoke as the floor began to dissolve and melt.
"What the hell was that?!" Tiona exclaimed in disbelief.
If Finn hadn't warned them earlier, wouldn't they have melted like wax if exposed to that liquid?!
"What's going on Captain?! Why are they here?!"
Tiona turned to Finn for confirmation. Obviously, she had never seen a monster like this before either. Moreover, this monster could secrete acid that could dissolve anything, maybe almost everything.
"I don't know either, they suddenly appeared here. Then, Kelvin ...."
As Finn's gaze fell on Kelvin, they also instinctively turned to him.
At this moment, Kelvin's right hand had completely disappeared..., or rather, his hand melted like the floor of the Dungeon before.
That right hand was now gone, but Kelvin still had a calm expression as if he wasn't bothered by the fact that his right hand was gone.
"What?! H-How did this happen?" Lefiya asked with concern.
As a girl who had followed Kelvin and been his Party for some time, Lefiya clearly knew Finn's strength. Seeing him lose his right hand was definitely a crushing blow to him.
"Hmm, just one hand. No big deal."
To be honest, it was a big deal.
If Kelvin only had his left hand, then he wouldn't be able to fight to his full potential.
Moreover, the way Kelvin used his Scythe was usually to rotate it between two hands, and although he could still use one hand to hold the Scythe, it would be inefficient.
It was just that, Kelvin was in the mood to try something right now. So, he didn't mind if the price to pay was with his right hand ....
