Danmachi: Reaper

Chapter 35: Anomalies

Leaving Riveria in charge of guarding the campsite, the two teams quickly left the temporary campsite and went to the 51st floor to search for Cadmus Spring Water.

"Why do I have to team up with him?!" Bete growled as she pointed at Kelvin who was walking next to Gareth unhappily.

Maybe Bete forgot or wasn't paying attention, but she just realized that Kelvin was on their mission and he was even part of the same team as her.

That's why, when Bete realized this, she immediately growled angrily as she pointed at Kelvin with her finger, looking unhappy.

"What can we do? Although it's only level 2, but Kelvin's strength is already equivalent to an intermediate level 3 adventure. Plus, he needs experience and this is a good time to give him some direction and experience."

Finn smiled, answering Bete's doubts as if he didn't care about what Bete had in mind about Finn.

It was true that Kelvin had just reached level 2, but from what Lefiya had told them, Finn could draw the conclusion that Kelvin's full power could be equivalent to a level 3 adventure.

Not without reason, but Kelvin's Skills and Magic were very cheating. Normally, adventurers wouldn't gain Skills so quickly. It's just that, Kelvin is different.

Moreover, almost all of his Skills were specialized in combat; it was as if Kelvin had been destined to be a combat enthusiast since his birth.

"Still-"

"Alright, stop right there, because we have guests now."

Bete was about to shout in dissatisfaction, but Gareth quickly cut her off, and quickly took out his weapon and set up a fighting stance.

Realizing this, Bete swallowed her dissatisfaction, snorting towards Kelvin unhappily.

"Anyway, just watch out if you become a burden!"

Kelvin paid no attention to Bete's words; his eyes were closed as he tried to assess the situation around him.

Ever since Kelvin got [Shinigami Eyes], he had never worn his eye patch again. Instead, Kelvin would just close his eyes because it would be more efficient.

It was then, Kelvin realized there were several monsters born and moving towards them.

And well, sure enough. Moments after Kelvin realized the existence of the monsters, they finally met some monsters walking towards them.

"Black Rhinos."

Rhino monsters that walked on two legs. It was slightly more than two meters tall and had two horns protruding from the front of its face.

This monster was known for its resilience, having skin that was as tough and thick as high-quality armor.

This monster is like a walking fortress when compared to the Fomoire on the 49th floor.

It's just that ....

"-?!"

Several pieces of their bodies quickly flew through the air.

A jet black long Scythe easily cut them all down.

Kelvin, who was holding the [Corrosion Scythe], grinned as he began to move and kill every Black Rhinos that appeared.

No matter how many times he swung his Scythe, no matter how many flew through the air, his Scythe never lost its color-it was still jet black.

As if bloodstains weren't enough to contaminate the Scythe, making it look extremely hideous when viewed from the enemy's perspective.

Included as a higher second-class weapon, [Corrosion Scythe] was powerful in direct physical combat, which was almost indestructible thanks to the [Durandal] attribute added to it.

On the other hand, Selan Finn, the other two were dumbfounded by Kelvin's movements.

They hadn't expected Kelvin to directly confront the monsters and be able to kill four of them.

"As expected, his strength exceeds what I expected."

Finn nodded with a smile, as if he had expected this result beforehand.

After all, Finn correctly understood Kelvin's tendencies, and he really liked fighting with strong opponents.

In his mind, Finn wondered; was it because of this tendency that Kelvin could become strong so quickly?

But, Finn chose to ignore his current thoughts, and quickly dismissed the reverie of the other two.

"Well, we can't let Kelvin clean up everything by himself, right?"

The two looked at Finn for a moment, nodded in agreement and started moving right then and there.

After all, they couldn't let Kelvin rule the stage alone, since they were also part of this show, right?

*****

"So, that room is our destination?" Kelvin asked, looking at Finn who was walking in front of him at the moment.

"Right," Finn nodded, "Cadmus Spring Water should be in that room."

Cadmus Spring Water, that was their current destination.

Even so, there was one problem ....

"The battle against Cadmus is inevitable, yes ...." Gareth muttered under his breath.

Cadmus-it was a Dragon-type monster that was the strongest monster on the 51st floor.

Other than Monster Rex, Cadmus could be said to be a powerful monster, even his strength was above Udaeus.

Cadmus also acted as the guardian of the Cadmus Spring Water, which was their obstacle during this mission.

"Alright, you guys be careful..., avoiding a confrontation with Cadmus is probably the best way, but if circumstances force, we'll have to kill him in order to get what we're after."

The three nodded.

Although there might be doubts in their hearts, but their goal was in sight, and they could not retreat at this time.

It's just that, the moment they entered the room ....

"What...?"

The room was filled with lush trees, enough to be considered a small forest. But, every single one of those trees was broken, falling to pieces, or completely uprooted from their roots.

The floor and walls of the room showed signs of battle; cracks and fresh debris littered the area.

But the most disturbing sights in the room were the strange markings on the walls and the trees that seemed to be melting.

Even now, black smoke with a foul odor was rising from purplish spots throughout the room.

Each of the four of them had furrowed brows, covering their noses as the pungent stench ruined their sense of smell.

"What's going on here?"

Clearly, signs of a fight were occurring in this place. Only, there was one thing that was strange here.

This place was clearly in chaos; it was no longer a place of battle, but rather more appropriate to be called a former battlefield.

Even so, unlike the other places that had fallen apart, there was one place that remained intact in this chaotic room.

Ripples flowed across the surface of the pure, clear water in the corner of the room.

The water flowed out from a natural crack in the wall of a small stream that originated from a cave outside the Dungeon walls.

The light blue liquid twinkled as it was collected in a container surrounded by wildflowers.

And right in front of this natural wonder of the Dungeon was a large pile of ashes.

"Isn't this ...."

"...The remains of Cadmus?"

Their whispers filled the air, sounding louder to those on edge than they should.

The shape of the large pile of ashes on the grass matched the dragon in the memories of the three of them.

A room without roaming monsters; nothing else lived there. Even if there were other monsters, there was no doubt in their minds.

This pile of ashes used to be the dragon Cadmus.

The monster had lost its magic stone, and the four of them gathered to look at the remains of Cadmus.

"Who killed Cadmus...? Do you know of any other Familia that went on the expedition, Finn?"

Gareth, obviously knew killing Cadmus was no easy matter. And not every Familia d Orario could do it with the adventures they had.

In his mind, there were only a few upper middle-class Familia who could do this alongside their Familia.

"No..., I can confidently say there are no other Familia going on an expedition in the near future..., if there were, the Guild should have already publicized it ...."

In order to go on an expedition, a Familia must report to the Guild first, especially a large Familia like the Loki Familia.

There are two main forces in Orario at the moment, which also act as protectors of Orario.

And those two forces are: Loki Familia and Freya Familia.

If Loki Familia went on an expedition, then Freya Familia was not allowed to leave Orario or go to the Dungeon. They would guard Orario from unexpected attacks from outside, and vice versa.

That was why, Freya Familia was of course not the one doing this.

"Then..., the bastard who could kill Cadmus...?"

This question naturally arose in their minds. Strong curiosity was naturally in their heads at this moment.

After all, Cadmus was not a weak Monster, his strength, although below that of the Monster Rex on the inner floor, he, Cadmus, was definitely stronger than the Udaeus they had previously fought.

"You guys..., check this out ...."

Their thoughts were interrupted as Bete found something from the pile of ashes that still remained on the ground.

"This..., the item drop is still here ...."

The item drop that would appear after successfully defeating Cadmus-

-Cadmus Hide.

An extremely rare item drop, there was no guarantee it could be obtained even after defeating Cadmus.

It was so valuable that this piece alone would pay for every armor and weapon of the members who joined the expedition combined.

For a precious item like this to be left behind like this ....

They obviously didn't believe it.

Kelvin, on the other hand just watched the three who were stunned in silence. He clearly didn't know the price of Cadmus Hide, and he certainly didn't realize the anomaly going on here.

"...We go back to the campsite."

After a moment of hesitation, Finn made his decision.

"Are you sure?"

Gareth frowned doubtfully.

"My thumb is throbbing right now...." Finn bit his thumb with a worried expression, "I feel something is wrong..., let's go back!"

Without explaining anything else, Finn turned around and hurried away.

Gareth and Bete looked at each other, nodded and ran after Finn behind him.

While Kelvin? Well, he had already done that before Gareth and Bete even made a move.
