Danmachi: Reaper

Chapter 32: 18th floor

The next day-Dungeon.

The celebration party was over, and today as usual, Kelvin would go to the Dungeon to kill monsters with Sylpha and Lefiya.

The Elf girl was now completely integrated into the team and would come with the two of them when they went to the Dungeon.

Moreover, Riveria herself had handed over the responsibility of teaching Lefiya to Kelvin, now the teenager was required to teach Lefiya about the life of an adventurer for real.

Lefiya might be strong, and her magic was truly outrageous, but she was mentally very weak.

She was just a student who came from the previous School District, and the Adventurer's life filled with danger certainly didn't fit her personality.

Because of this, Lefiya often failed to cast her spells, making the expedition team a bit overwhelmed if they faced many monsters at the same time.

Keep in mind, the job of a rearguard mage is only one-casting spells.

No matter what happens in the front row, they must not lose their composure and mess up their magic spells.

A witch's magic can turn the battlefield upside down in an instant, which is why witches are so important in an expedition team.

So, when a witch failed to cast a spell, it could have a huge impact on their team, which decreased their team's ratio of winning the battle.

That was why Kelvin was asked by Riveria to train Lefiya; not in magic, but in fighting mentality.

Kelvin's rapid growth rate in strength, as well as his attitude that seemed to have been born to fight since birth, would be perfect for training a naive girl like Lefiya.

That was why-

"Grrrr!!!"

A group of Hellhounds appeared and surrounded the three of them. Even so, Kelvin and Sylpha seemed calm and did not look panicked, unlike Lefiya.

Hellhounds, they said, were monsters that were a nightmare for level 2 and below adventurers. That's because there are many cases of adventurers dying at their hands, making them a nightmare for adventurers between the 13th and 14th floors.

Even so, not long after the appearance of this group of Hellhounds, there were many slashes created in empty air.

Then-

Slash! Slash! Slash! Slash!

Like being slashed by a sword, the empty air around them showed the slash slits in a blood-red color, and the Hellhound's body was instantly cut into several pieces at once.

Wound Manipulation.

It was a Kelvin Magic that didn't require a chant to activate at all.

Not only did this magic work to manipulate wounds, but it could also be used to create traps in empty air like a sword slash.

When an enemy or target walked through this trap, their body would be slashed and cut, just like a direct sword slash.

And Kelvin had left many traps around them, making many monsters unable to move near them at the moment.

That was why Kelvin was so calm, even though he was being surrounded by many Hellhounds just now.

"Wh-What is it?!"

Unlike Sylpha who looked calm when she saw Kelvin's magic, Lefiya stammered and looked at Kelvin in confusion.

Obviously, Lefiya had never seen Kelvin use this Magic before, and when Kelvin intended to use it, he couldn't because he was under the [Mad Enhancement] effect at the time.

"Ah, that's my Magic." said Kelvin calmly, "This Magic allows me to manipulate the 'wound', either closing it or making it more open. And all I did just now was leave a slash, which wounded the 'air', and when the Hellhounds appeared, they were hit by the slash that I had controlled to widen."

"W-Was that possible?! And again, instant recitation?!" Lefiya was dumbfounded as she stared at Kelvin in disbelief.

Needless to say, in order to use Magic, a chant was needed as a 'trigger', and that was even if they had Magic in their Falna.

Although, the Elven Race, who excelled in terms of Magic had a way to use Magic without Falna, although their Magic was somewhat weaker when compared to the Magic obtained from having Falna.

Moreover, as mentioned earlier, in order to use magic, it is necessary to cast magic spells. And to cast a magic spell takes quite a long time, because magic spells are generally quite long.

In addition, the magician must also be in a stationary position and focused on the magic spell. Otherwise, the wizard may lose control of his magic and hurt himself instead.

Although, there are ways that it is possible to cast magic while fighting or moving simultaneously, although the difficulty level itself is like defusing a bomb with both hands.

Then, there is also Magic that only has one or a few spells to be activated.

This was like Ais', where she only needed to cast "Ariel" to activate her Magic.

"Well..., let's just say that this special magic is only owned by me..., at least right now...."

Hearing Kelvin's answer, Lefiya still felt doubtful. But she left it here knowing there were plenty of opportunities in the future to ask again.

Sighing, Lefiya then began to collect the fallen magic stones, while Sylpha and Kelvin cleaned up the remains of the remaining monsters while protecting Lefiya.

*****

"Is something strange, Kelvin-sama?" Sylpha asked as she noticed Kelvin's strange behavior.

Kelvin stopped, turning around as he looked at Sylpha's figure, "No, it's just that I feel unfamiliar with my body."

Kelvin then tried to move his hand, holding the sambit in his hand and making a 'slashing' motion.

However, for some reason Kelvin's movements looked a bit stiff and awkward, different from usual.

"See? For some reason my body feels strange, it's not like usual. Although, I feel stronger than before anyway."

Hearing Kelvin's words, Sylpha nodded in understanding, "I guess it's a natural thing, Kelvin-sama."

"Reasonable?" Kelvin looked at Sylpha in confusion.

"Mn," Sylpha nodded, "After leveling up, one receives a large increase in all their basic abilities. The increase is so great that it creates a power gap between levels."

"However, although it strengthens the person, the sudden strength gained causes desynchronization between one's mind and body which reduces their fighting ability."

"Even so, the shortcoming can be overcome by fighting strong enemies or a large number of enemies to become fully accustomed to the level increase gained."

Hearing Sylpha's explanation, Kelvin nodded in understanding.

As Sylpha said, his strength had indeed increased a lot since he leveled up yesterday, even so because of the sudden increase in strength, his body was not used to it which made it a little difficult for Kelvin to control his body properly.

It was nothing serious, although Kelvin felt a little uncomfortable because of this.

"Are you alright, Kelvin-san?" Lefiya asked with concern.

Since she was also a current level 3, Lefiya had of course experienced what Kelvin was currently experiencing.

Although, it didn't affect her much, as she was a rearguard mage. But, Kelvin was a vanguard, and if he couldn't use his body well, it would turn out quite fatal.

If a supporter was required to stay alive, and a mage was required to cast spells all the time, then the vanguard was required to have a good physique.

Frontline fighters generally relied on their physical strength, as well as their skill with melee weapons; such as swords and axes.

Because of this, if Kelvin could not control his body well, he would lose some of his fighting ability, which would affect the efficiency of the team.

"It's fine, I'll get used to it in the near future." said Kelvin casually.

Although he wasn't used to his current large increase in strength, but Kelvin felt more and more excited.

If before Kelvin had always used his Magic to kill monsters, or relied on Sylpha who would kill the monsters around them, now Kelvin intended to face the monsters with his own two hands!

He was getting more and more excited!

Just didn't expect that they would be walking so far so soon.

"We're almost at the 17th floor!"

Looking at the excited Lefiya, Kelvin just nodded with a smile.

Their destination this time was clear, the 18th floor-Rivira.

"Mn, let's go."

Passing through the 17th floor, Kelvin realized that the place had now recovered, completely returned to its original state, as if there had never been a battle yesterday in this place.

But, Kelvin didn't think much of it, as he knew this must have something to do with the Dungeon itself.

With that, they kept moving, and they arrived at the 18th floor!

*****

Stepping onto the 18th floor, a vast new world unfolded before them, known as the safe floor, where monsters did not appear, making it a popular resting place for many Familia during their expeditions.

The first thing when they stepped onto this floor was a view of a vast forest, where there were many lakes formed on this floor.

Then ....

"Light?" Kelvin muttered in confusion.

It was quite strange to see light even though they were in a dungeon, which meant they were currently tens or maybe hundreds of meters underground.

But, how could there be light on this floor?

After all, the 17th floor looked gloomy with only a little bit of lighting. But, the 18th floor was different. The light on this floor was like the light during daytime on the surface.

"You're surprised, Kelvin-sama?"

Seeing Kelvin's reaction, Sylpha gave a small smile. Sylpha then pointed her finger at several corners on this floor.

And as Kelvin's gaze followed the direction Sylpha pointed, he saw something ....

Crystals.

Crystals of various colors and shapes were scattered everywhere.

Some grew on the ground like plants with protruding shoots, while others stood like giants in the middle of the forest.

These crystals of various sizes all reflected a rare light blue light.

The entire forest was dyed a light blue color by these crystals, even the roots of the large trees that split the ground had pieces of light blue crystal fragments.

This scene made Kelvin feel as if he was in a dream, it felt so unreal that he could see something this beautiful inside the Dungeon.
